Wayang Retreat is just magical. The grounds are stunning and carefully manicured. The seven cabins / rooms are all original, typical Balenese structures, full of charm and detail. All looking into gardens or pools, thus enhancing tranquility. Swimming pool and sun loungers provided a great clam setting to read a book or just relax. Drinks and coffee can be ordered in the main lounge/kitchen/dining and brought to the room or to the pool. Massage or trips can be arranged upon request. Location is ideal. Close enough to cafe's and restaurants but far enough from the main road so it is very quiet with no scooter noise. Junior and his staff were lively and are excellent hosts. Would recommend this retreat to any of my friends wishing to stay in Berawa. Also recommend Ulekan for dinner - amazing food.

Would have loved a little mini-fridge in the room, just to keep our water cold when we are in the room. Would have also loved a few more accessories in the bathroom like a conditioner and a glass for toothbrush etc.

On our arrival we were taken aback by the beauty of this tucked away retreat, full of artisan decor and tranquility. We enjoyed a very spacious twin room and enjoyed the peace that this retreat provided during our stay in Bali - at times feeling like we had the place to ourselves. Had good air conditioning in the room, kitchen was fully equipped and clean. The staff were so lovely and helpful. Great location in walking distance of many nice cafes and restaurants in Canggu. We will definitely recommend this retreat to our friends and family, and would be keen to come back in the future 😊

A mini fridge in the room would be nice

Amazing little oasis in the middle of Canggu. All of the buildings are situated around a central open air kitchen, lounge and beautiful garden. We loved staying in a place which felt more traditional and so beautifully cared for whilst still having everything we needed a short walk or Grab ride away. Our villa overlooked the pool which was perfect for dipping in and out of on those hot Canggu days. It was beautifully decorated and dark and peaceful at night. The bathroom was enormous and featured a massage table should you wish to arrange an in room massage. Staff are friendly and attentive, making us coffee and fruit platters every morning. Junior in particular was very helpful in organising transport to Nusa Lembongan and the airport with a great driver.

We loved having access to the shared kitchen, would be great to have a small fridge or cooler to keep water cold in our room.

I can’t speak highly enough about Wayang Retreat. We spent 10 days here and enjoyed it very much. The gardens are beautiful, the pool is fantastic and the common kitchen and living area a great added bonus (it was formerly a large private home). Although there were other guests in other rooms, it always felt like we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Its location in Berawa, two minutes’ walk from the Canggu shortcut, makes Wayang Retreat very accessible. But it’s also extremely peaceful. You’d never know you were on the doorstep of everything. The whole team of staff were lovely. Always chatty, friendly and helpful.

We booked an upstairs room but if (when!) I return, I’ll choose a downstairs one - the balcony is narrow and sitting out on it felt a bit claustrophobic. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the bed being raised up and in the middle of the room. But it was spacious and comfortable, and the Wi-Fi was strong.

What an amazing 6x night stay we had at this beautiful retreat! Junior sits you down on arrival & explains everything you need to know. He is a wealth of knowledge & can assist with anything required as can the friendly staff. Our room was exceptional dotted with quirky art work & furniture. Great aircon, lovely comfy bed & netflix if you need a movie fix after a big day out. The open kitchen/dinning area is an added bonus & every morning one of the lovely staff would make us coffee & a delicious plate of fruit plus a little cake, which is complimentary. In fact anytime of day you can help yourself to tea or coffee. A beautiful clean pool, exquisite gardens and the sheer peacefulness provide a very relaxed vibe. Plenty of food places within walking distant. Mr Sista had great coffee & food for breakfast/lunch. 'Wei to go' had good Chinese takeaway if you didn't feel like venturing far & nice to eat it back at the retreat in the lovely outdoor garden setting. Ulekan restaurant was outstanding approx 300m up the road.! If you feel like a 30min drive head to Warung Sika delicious food & extremely cheap. (Only about 4 bucks with Grab.) Lovely on Berawa Beach to watch a glorious sunset. (Also $4 grab) Our flight wasn't until 11.30pm but we were allowed to use the facilities all day which was greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much to Junior, Kadek, Iluh, Rebecca, Agus & Firmus for making our holiday so unforgettable ♥️

Whats not to love!

Wayang Retreat is beautiful! Very green and well taken care of. And all staff are really warm and helpful. Check-in process was smooth (credit card terminal on-site, no Amex to my knowledge, so if that's your payment method, you better ask the property). I messaged the villa and they arranged for a driver to pick me up at the airport (400 IDR paid in cash, directly to the driver). Even though I arrived around 9h00 am I was able to use the facilities until check-in time (actually earlier that that, just as soon as the room was ready) which was great because I was quite tired after my overnight flight. My bungalow was spotless, the bed super comfy, the wall-to-ceiling window lets light in in the morning and provides an outdoor feel, and the shower overlooking a stone garden is a nice touch. You will find balinese wooden furniture in the room: a small seating area, a huge desk, and a very large bookshelf -filled with "real-book" reading opportunities :)- make you feel right at home. I had no issues with the wifi in the room, which is by the way equipped with a Netflix set-up TV (Wayang's account). The pool area is also very comfortable for sunbathing and swimming, and there is a small gazebo with bean bags where you can read sheltered from the sun or have drinks in the evening. The shared living room, dining room and truly fully-equipped kitchen are fantastic! Ground Bali coffee and black tea are available round the clock, and there's a small coffee machine (to be honest, you don't really need it because the coffee is finely ground). There's freshly-cut fruit available as well, which I did not expect: staff are around the living room every morning, and if you show up, they will prepare a colorful plate of fruit for you! Last but not least, there are furry friends on-site: a dog (super sweet, quite shy) and a very social cat!

The location of hotel was really easy to reach everywhere. Staff were really kind and friendly. Especially the gardener gentlemen told us where we should go and see around. Room was really cosy and we clean.

Because we didn’t one any insects to come to our room we couldn’t open the windows, that’s why our room was really dark. I would rather to wake up with sun, it would be much better if they put flynet to windows. They were giving only fruit platter for breakfast which is really limited. Our bathroom’s drain wasn’t working very well.

Beautiful location ! Beautiful houses set in a glorious well tended lush ,green garden surrounded by a lovely pool. The houses ( I stayed in 2) are furnished with stunning Indonesian furniture,art works and antiques. The bathrooms are huge! The communal space is as tastefully designed and decorated with a great kitchen and everything you could need for full for scale entertaining. The sound of running water and koi carp in the pond create a calming and almost spiritual atmosphere . It's an oasis of peace and quiet in the midst of the madness of Canggu and getting around from there is easy . The staff are really attentive and very friendly.

My partner arrived before me and was greeted with fabulous hospitality. The grounds are beyond beautiful and the pool area is stunning with so much sunlight and lush greenery. A slice of magic in the heart of Canggu.

The noise at night from the neighbours and dogs around woke us up quite often. (We were staying in the room at the front near the entrance so that might have been the reason for the excessive noise)

I almost wanted to leave a negative review as I want to be so selfish for no one to find out about this GEM! Wayang is beyond expectation, and if I was to have a home to myself, Wayang will be my prototype. Room - Wayang has 7 villas built in more of Balinese style with a center open space communal area where you've got a full kitchen. Each villa is slightly different but all very spacious. Bathroom is huge with a walk in closet and ceiling windows, so it's bright, feels like an outdoor bathroom but no bugs! Bed is huge as they combine two single beds with a king (maybe larger than a king) size mattress, we slept very well on it. Communal area - the kitchen is functional, we prepare our own breakfasts and take out dinners there nearly daily. Unlimited Balinese coffee if you are a coffee holic like us. We use the area to catch up with some work as well. The garden is nicely decorated and each corner you can find some small arty stones and flowers, it is just nice. We also use the lawn space to do our daily exercises at sunset. So bring your mat! Pool - the first two days, the pool wasn't cleaned, so we weren't allowed going to the water, we just stayed on the sunbed for tanning. Once the pool man came, we jumped in and the water was good. The whole time we stayed, no other guests used the pool area, we felt like it's a place to ourselves only the whole time. Location - it's about 10-15 minutes walk to Berawa beach, and walking distance to all kinds of cafes and restaurants without the noise, and the party makers. It is very suitable for a family with kids, couples who prefer some quietness. It might be a bit too quiet for singles who wishes to meet fellow travelers though. But it suits our need perfectly. We like it quiet, and we are self sufficient as we know the area well so didn't really need much of help on anything. Staff - Most of them don't speak English, except the gardener, and all super nice. I felt safe.

Really nothing. If could, we would go back and stay for a month. It really made us feel like a home.
