I’m in two minds about Vic a Vicariell The apartment had some positive aspects. It was comfortable, centrally located and nicely decorated. Paolo allowed me to drop off my bags early and kindly helped when my bag and keys were stolen.

There were a few issues however. For one the Booking .com listing stated (in several sentences) that there was a washing machine. There was not. I felt a bit cheated by this. There was no dish soap or tea towels, which isn’t that big of a deal, but Paolo made a point of telling me that he wanted the kitchen kept clean. Go figure. The reception and wifi were terrible. The wifi only properly worked in the bathroom and the reception was patchy in the entire apartment. Several times, I had to put my phone on top of the fridge to receive messages. The biggest issue for me was the bathroom which constantly flooded and smelt of sewerage. I saw that other reviewers who mentioned this issue were blamed by the owner for clogging the drains with sand. However, this issue occurred many times before I even went to the beach, and even then I only brought in a tiny bit of sand which was in my hair. Water constantly built up in the shower and a drain next to the toilet would spewed fowl smelling water. By the final day, all of my towels and one of the bedsheets were drenched trying to clean up the flooding which seeped into the bedroom. I didn’t raise these last two issues with Paolo because of his rude responses to other reviewers. Deflecting blame and attempting to humiliate people who leave negative reviews seems to be fairly commonplace in the Italian hospitality industry. It’s a shame because maybe if prior complaints had been acknowledged and acted upon I might have been able to leave a better rating.
