Exceptional location on the banks of the Mekong River. Very quiet and peaceful. Enjoyed watching the families of the hotel staff tending their vegetable plots. Elephant camp on the opposite bank. Lovely swimming pool and good breakfast and evening meals. Free transfers from and to the slow boat jetty. I stayed for two nights and would definitely recommend a stay iof more than one night to get the most from this hotel on your way by slow boat along the river. I will definitely hope to visit again.
Unlike the 7 other hotels I stayed at in Las, this one took my booking cost directly from my credit card before my arrival rather than giving the option to pay in cash. For me, this was a disadvantage as I had intended to use up my surplus local currency paying for my stay before I reached the Laos Thai border the following day. Hence my lower score for the “check in” question.

Really lovely and welcoming staff, including the owner, all perfectly speaking English Great breakfast and also really good dinner ( dinner is very expensive compared to other restaurants but also very good) very clean rooms and a lovely view from the balcony on the Mekong river, also far away from the turbulent center of Pakbeng.
As the toilet is right behind your bed in one room, we perceived a slightly ugly sewage smell from our bed coming from the toilet. The pool was less welcoming, as it’s not directly connected to the hotel facility - you first have to get out of the hotel through the dust and mud of the streets and then hike back down a few steps to get to the pool. we didn’t take a swim there.

So glad we booked three nights here. A single overnight visit would not be enough. Pak Beng is worth a longer stay and this hotel is a delight. Wonderful room (we were upgraded to a delux in the upper building, but all the rooms looked good). Fabulous view over the Mekong, especially vivid about 25 minutes after sunset, when the river goes scarlet. Very nice people. Really enjoyed the food in the à la carte restaurant on the beautifully situated river-view terrace. Helpful French manager, Benoit, speaks excellent English. The other staff much less so, but they all do their best to communicate and be helpful. It is especially good that all the other employees are from the local area - opportunities are limited in this quite remote rural community. The hotel has also established a next-door medical clinic, with help from visiting volunteer medics from Europe. We spent one day on a long guided trek in the surrounding hill country, visiting a couple of the ethnic villages and interacting with the locals. Our splendid guide, Ton, works for the hotel. He speaks almost no English or French but that did not matter. His relatives live in one of the villages, so he was the perfect person to introduce us. We were made extremely welcome, plied with beer and offered vast quantities of food. What kind people! Our next half day was spent at the excellent elephant sanctuary on the opposite bank. Congratulations to project leader Wendy. Seen lots of elephants elsewhere and usually unimpressed with the setup, but this is different. Very well done. Fascinating explanation of the precarious situation here in Laos. Worth going just to hear the story behind their recent triumph in breeding from one of their females - now an exceptional occurrence in Laos. In the afternoon we just chilled out on our beautiful wooden balcony, enjoying the view and dipping in the pool.
It was all good. Upkeep good, cleanliness excellent. Insects not a problem.

The location is amazing with views of the Mekong River from up high. There is a lovely seating area for dining, as well as a terrace in front of the room for relaxing and lounging. The garden is very well maintained. We wish we had stayed longer! We were picked up at the pier and sent off the next day with a picnic breakfast and transfer back to the pier. The rooms were amazing, beautifully decorated in a French colonial style and very roomy.
I could not find the light switch for the balcony a light and that we did not stay longer.......

They picked us up from the slow boat and took us back in the morning. Lovely location overlooking the Mekong. Elephants coming to bathe at 7am in the river. Really wonderful sunset and swimming pool. The rooms all have balconies overlooking the river and the wonderful vegetable garden. The hotel restaurant serves all the homegrown vegetables you can see growing.
The shower wasn’t very good considering it was a more expensive hotel. The breakfast was very poor. We have had much better breakfast in much cheaper hotels.

In a word; view. The balcony rooms offer a breathtaking view of the mighty Mekong. If you’re lucky, you can watch the elephants bathing in the river from the sanctuary opposite. The hotel arranged for staff to meet us when we docked at the pier and arranged for our luggage to be taken from the boat to the hotel. Rooms were fab, restaurant wasn’t cheap for Laos but reasonable in terms of what most tourists would be used to in their own country. Lovely place to spend an overnight stay.
Nothing major springs to mind

They thought of everything! There is room in the bathroom for your stuff. The bed is big and cozy. The room is spacious. And the views!!!! Wow! I’ll never forget it. I love that they don’t serve water in plastic. The restaurant is perfectly situated for the sunset and the food is tasty. They made me an early breakfast to take back on the boat. I just can’t say enough about this place. Oh, and also it’s in a good location so you can walk into town, such as it is. I hear there are good bars there. Not my thing.
Not one thing.

We were met by staff at the boat pier and taken back the next day free of charge. On arrival, we were met by the manager and staff who checked us in promptly. Everything was explained perfectly and we were taken to our room. The room was beautiful and was exceptionally clean. The balcony looked over the mekong. We chose the set menu in the restaurant. The food was delicious. Also, a glass of red wine 🍷 . Breakfast was equally as tasty. Wonderful experience.
No hairdryer on room, but this is only a small point.

Remember Shangri-La, that fictional place where it was like heaven on earth? That's what it felt like. Please please stay here if you can. We're pretty bummed we only stayed one night. We booked this place for our one-night lodging in between the two-day slow boat ride on the Mekong from Luang Prabang to Huay Xai (which is highly recommended, btw). The pictures were pretty good, but man, the actual place was even more breathtaking. The view of the Mekong was out of this world. We were so taken that the first 10 minutes we got to our room all we did was stare at the view and pleasant-curse at how insanely beautiful everything was. This place was built and designed by some very very thoughtful architects and designers. The room was nearly all teak, making it warm and cool at the same time. Beds were comfy. And the layout was very cool. Staff was super attentive and gracious even though we were the only ones there (COVID really depleted number of visitors). We didn't want to make them cook dinner just for us so we went into town for food (it was a wonderful short walk with the starry night sky above us). The breakfast the next morning was very delicious. They even cooked us some fried rice and noodles to take on our boat ride from Pak Beng to Huay Xai. We want to come back. If you're looking for a quiet refuge to just escape it all or finally work on that writing project or whatnot, choose this place.

Beautiful hotel on the hill overlooking the Mekong. The views from the balcony were amazing. Large comfortable room - loved the wood finish and details. We were only there one night as we were taking the slow boat to Luang Prabang - was great to up grade ourselves to such a wonderful hotel. Dinner in the restaurant was delightful - wonderful views and great food - highly recommended place for one or several nights.
