Loved the setting with the gardens and pool. The lily pond was beautiful, and the trees and flowers were great. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They made a beautiful breakfast for us on the terrace. Quite fancy and a nice treat. Very quiet, and although close to the very busy road, there was no traffic mode at all. The pool was especially welcome!

The price of drinks I felt was too high 27,000 for a small sprite! Would be nice to be given access to free aqua instead of charging 15,000 for a small bottle. There is an Alfamart quite near so we bought aqua from there but was a very hot walk in dense traffic to get there.

On the south side of busy Medan, this is a quiet heaven. Guest rooms are set in a fairy tale like garden. They are spacious, well designed and cosy. There is a characteristic central building with a reception and a spacious restaurant. The kitchen is high quality with delicious Indonesian and European food. The best part of our stay was the kind hotel staff. They treated us as friends, were very courteous and polite and helped us whenever they could.

The swimming pool is very nice but small. The showers in the rooms take a long time to get warm and it’s difficult not to make the bathroom wet. But this isn’t a serious issue. We would have loved to stay a little longer than the three days we did.

Friendliest staff at any hotel we stayed in Sumatra - they were so kind and helpful. For instance: when eating dinner they brought out mosquito spray for us to use; when they realised we wouldn't be able to enjoy breakfast because of an early flight, they packed us a box each. They go above and beyond. The property is beautiful (better even than the photos). The gardens, pool area, exterior of the buildings, and the restaurant are all lovely. The room was also the best we had in Sumatra. Beds were extremely comfortable, the rooms were really tastefully furnished and decorated, and the AC worked very well.

The water pressure in the shower was low and it was a bit cold. This is an issue throughout Sumatra and I know that this property is on the older side so it was expected. It wouldn't stop me from staying again! The bathroom overall was dated and rough around the edges. The room and property was more than enough to make up for it, but maybe in future a refurb of the bathrooms wouldn't go amiss.

Had a very pleasant stay for 5 days at the Deli River Hotel. The rooms are great with big comfortable balconies overlooking the small lake. The pool area is lovely, in a nice location overlooking the river valley. The food is delicious - I ate something different every meal and it was all top notch. But what really stood out were the staff. Always smiling, friendly and helpful. Every hotel should have staff like this... One thing to point out is that the surrounding area has nothing to commend it, aside from a couple of small supermarkets for essentials (but no alcohol). So unless you're going on a tour, you'll spend all your time in the hotel. Which isn't a hardship.

Not all the rooms have a fridge, whichever would be nice for having drinks on the balcony. That simple improvement would make the whole place a 10/10....

This was a wonderful oasis, and gave a welcome breathing space on our travels around Sumatra. The restaurant, pool and bedroom were beautiful, as was the view over the back down to the river. Outstanding staff. Delicious food served by lovely staff.

We were a little alarmed to see ear plugs in the room. If we had left our window open, it would have been rather noisy with the traffic. Since the air conditioning was so good, we were able to close the window and there was no problem - had an excellent night sleep.

Really great and quiet location un the outskirts of noisy and hot Medan city. Large and grean territory, excellent restaurant, always friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast boxes were provided in case of early departure even in case of late arrival and closing restaurant. Kid's shoes were repaired for free. Parking is provided, breakfast is really delicious. The hotel could be recommended as start point for trips through Northern Sumatra or as an intermediate point for tourists as well as for brief business visits.

The hotel is very beautiful and well maintained. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was just amazing!

The dinner quality was not very good in our opinion. We have had way better food, even in street places. Prices of the food were good though! We wanted to arrange a taxi to Bukit Lawang but we were offered a taxi for more than twice as much as we ended up paying through another contact. We were shocked about this and a bit disappointed.

Beautiful garden setting. Old fashioned charm, pagoda and villa style buildings. Jazz playing in the dining room like stepping back in time. Staff so polite and helpful. Room was lovely, good attention to detail, little coconut pots for the shower gel etc Loved the 2 geese.

Food was OK but not quite as good as the setting. A bit small on portion size. Girls hogging their place at the pool, leaving empty loungers with their territory markers. Really nothing else to say as it was a really lovely place.

We spend the first and last night of our holiday at Hotel Deli River and definitely recommend to start your Sumatra trip here. It’s a warm Indonesian welcome with an European touch. The rooms are very clean and spacious, perfect for a rest after a long flight. But the highlight for us was the garden; it is amazing with several places to relax in private. The onsite restaurant has a beautiful architecture where we had the best rendang during the whole trip! The staff was also very friendly and helpful during our stay.
