This was a risk, I wasn't sure what I had booked as our accommodation and on first arrival i was a bit nervous but actually it was fantastic, great fun, The Boggie Shack, was a gutted out caravan with an outside covered barbecue kitchenette with an outside shower and toilet, very primitive but actually great to be back to basics and a bit rustic. I loved it and was sad to leave. The booking also included free canoeing, kayaking paddleboarding, as much as you liked on the calm ocean inlet at the property. The beaches near by were stunning and empty with clean clear sea to swim in. The owners were great too, friendly and up for a chat about the local area. I would advise you stop at Neil's Harbour to stock up on food supplies on your way up as that's the nearest. You will not be disappointed staying here.

I liked that there was plenty of options ( Water related - for example paddle boards that you could stand up on or kneel on, and a variety of kyaks to choose from. I liked that there was wifi, and electricity. If you want plenty of cooking options then bring a camp stove and/ or a BBQ to cook with as the week that we went there was a fire ban. There is an option to use charcoal briquettes if you like a more rustic experience. The staff are great and very helpful..ps my husband brought his guitar 🎸. You will want bug spray for after dark. We had a good time, so much so that we booked the same place for August
Not applicable..we absolutely had a great experience.

We booked the studio lake view dome, and it was genuinely stunning. I would highly recommend the stay! It was magical and idealic - watching the sunrise with a mountain view- truly was beautiful. The staff was extremely helpful and found a way to manage our series of requests. If you're interested in making a fire - just be mindful of the 5 dollar bundles you'll see up the Cabot - most of it is wet wood and wont burn well. Blue bayou has plenty of dry wood and kindling for 8 bucks a bucket - so just something to note!
As they had literally just opened up for the season - there were a few kinks that had to be worked out. Our dome only had grill grades, and they didn't have coal - so we used a neighbouring domes electric grid. That may not be possible as the season gets busier- so it would be good to make sure they're prepared with the necessary items so that you can have a good camping session. The domes itself are a little chilly - so I'd recommend bringing an extra blanket just in case.

Owners were nice enough to wait for us and give us instructions on how to reach our dome. Place was very tranquil and peaceful esp during early hours. Had great views at the back too! And instructions were given on how to use dome facilities. Owners were also kind enoug to give us suggestions on where to eat and that was a big help! They recommended a nice place.
Dome little cold (it was rainy that day so maybe we felt little colder than expected) but Highlands are usually colder than lower places. Maybe better to fully savor the place by staying longer and not just for a night like us.

amazingly beautiful location, right on the water, and nestled in a green forest. The domes were a very cool, very unique way to experience this little slice of Cape Breton. It rained a little at night so we got to listen to the rain hitting the top of the dome. Then, a little later, the sky cleared and we could see the stars through the top of the dome. What a great night's stay!
Honestly, Blue Bayou completely met our expectations. We knew that there was no food service or restaurant onsite so we planned ahead. We were able to purchase a few snacks as a "just in case" and it was just perfect.

Very nice for a group, there are enough cooking utensils. The location is also good, close to white road trail and places to see sunrise. There is also a lake nearby linked to the Atlantic Ocean that can play kayak and SUP, warm water in the afternoon, we had so much fun playing in the lake.
The sofa is too soft, there were bee and flies in the chalet that we need to deal with at the beginning.

We arrived at Blue Bayou after a long day of driving on the Cabot Trail and received a warm welcome from our kind hosts. The two kids in our group were more excited about staying in the domes than anything else we had planned for our trip and they did not disappoint! The domes were as cool as they were comfortable. I only wish we had planned more time there :)
My teensy complaint is that the hot water ran out more quickly than I anticipated, but if I had hurried a little, that wouldn't have been an issue.

Easy way to camp without bring8ng all the stuff you need to camp. It was worth the price to have an outdoor meal, a decent bed, a private bathroom, a way to easily heat water and, best of all able to gather our things and drive away letting someone else clean up our camp space. We had water activities available, but didn’t take time to use them.
The WiFi was a fairytale

What a great location. It is a bit off the grid, but exactly what we were looking for. The Dome’s are spacious and the bed was so comfortable. We had a dome that overlooked the water so waking up to glassy waters and going to sleep to beautiful sunsets was incredible. Such a fun place and unexpected kayaking and paddleboards that sealed the deal. Family fun for everyone!
You need to be somewhat self-sufficient as there are limited supplies at the resort. BYOB and more.

When you first drive up, you're not sure what to think. It's a bunch of geo bubbles dotting the woods. When you open the door to your dome, you are pleasantly surprised with your room. Nice bed, decent shower. And, when you walk down to the lake and your smile becomes permanent. They have kayaks, canoes, paddle boards there to use whenever you want. Great place for the family. The owner is very friendly and attentive and fun to talk with. The sunsets over the lake were amazing and it was very cool to lay in your bed at night and stare through the roof at the stars. Close to everything you want to see.
There is no stove inside the domes so you are still camping in that sense. I kept forgetting that we had a bathroom and shower.
