Rooms are simple, but clean and comfortable. The owner is helpful and friendly, before I arrived he put me in touch with local guide Leo who organised a sunrise volcano hike/hot springs/Buddhist temple tour for me with a brilliant guide called Joey. Owner was also flexible with check in/out times which I appreciated. They also arranged my onward transport.

It’s on the main road so a bit noisy sometimes, but for the price I can’t complain, it’s good value for money and comfortable for a short stay.

ERWIN ... the owner . We felt we were treated as a family member. He came and picked us up from the other city. On the way we got a free tour and had stops on different places . He is such a considerable person . Next day me and my friends agreed to go on a full day tour with him and it was the best experience in sumatra . And then he kindly arranged our trip and sent his car and driver with us the next destination. Prices were cheaper . Felt like a family trip. His place "Sapo Caro" is like a big mansion with lots of rooms , everything was nice , clean and tidy . Quite place , clean , nice breakfast , nice location . Thanx Erwin, you are really an ambassador to Sumatra.

Great place with very lovely hosts. They have organized an AMAZING trip to Mt Sibayak at a competitive price. Our guide Leo has very good English, is funny and knowledgeable. It was a genuine pleasure to just spent time with him on this trek. He made some delicious coffee for us at the top of volcano. The owners have also arranged a private transport to the airport for us with an attractive price.

Very pleasant and comfortable stay for my family of 5 pax. With nice hot shower and Free Wifi, a must these days. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. It is located just a short stroll (10 mins) from the fruit market and city centre with easy access to local food, souvenir shops and lots of interesting sights. The surprise bonus has to be the owner of the hotel, Mr Win. He is extremely hospitable, friendly and helpful. He arranged a separate tour package for us and led our trek to the Gunung Sibayak, one of the two active volcanos. He also showed us some of the other sights in Berastagi, over and above the package as an added bonus! My kids learnt a lot from visiting these amazing sites. Encik Win really made our trip a memorable one. Thank you very much!

Nothing worth mentioning.

It is a family run nice place with very friendly people. They helped us to carry our suitcases to our small room on first floor. They have a large common area where you can sit any time. They offer hikes up the volcano and other trips. Erwin took us on a day of sightseeing (hiking up the volcano, hot springs, local tribal people) which was absolutely amazing (but with "western" prices). I would recommend just for these trips to stay in the hotel.

Expect small room and bath as well as "old" mattresses for this small price.

We stayed with our 8 and 5 year old kids for two nights. The hotel was clean and well located. The hotel organized a great one-day excursion to Mount Sibayak and its surroudings (hotspring, waterfall, buddhist temple) where we had great time. Adi, the hotel manager went above and beyond to help.

Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff. They can help you arrange a hike to Sibayak. I did it with Leo and it was amazing. Theyvcan also help you to book your transport to your next destination. The rooms are spacious and clean, so is the bathroom. I highly recommend Sapo Karo Guesthouse. Thanks for everything.

The accomodation is perfect for a stoppover to Lake Toba. We did a volcano tour with Erwin Sinaga and Agus, they do their best for us, coffee on the top and breakfast in the hotel after trekking, we also enjoyed the hot springs for relaxing after the hike. The price was really good and they werd very friendly. After the tour Agus brought us to Lake Toba. Everything about the Sapo Karo rest house is great. The building is really spacious and has lots of character. My room was huge and was nicely furnished, the bed was really comfy and the bathroom was nicely tiled and the best hot shower I've had since being in Sumatra. Erwin, the owner is such a really lovely guy and goes above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need. He also does the volcano treks at a very reasonable price and even takes tea and coffee along for when you reach the top.

We enjoyed 3 days at the Sapo Karo. Simple accommodation, attractive outside area where we could take a very good breakfast, a space to sit inside which was useful as our room was reasonably small. Lots of help with finding things to do, we had a lovely day out with Deni Irawan, who was a great guide.
