This charming historic mansion was perfectly situated for our Visits to Chauvet Cave (Grotte Chauvet) and visiting Pont d'Arc. Close to dinners in Pierrelatte, across the river. Many beautiful antique sitting rooms supplied with games, puzzles, and sun through the tall windows facing east. Our spacious tall ceiling room was fun - designed and outfitted to be reminiscent of an ocean faring schooner. Stairs led us to the full bath (with shower) upstairs, with open portholes looking down on the bedroom. Plenty of electrical outlets for charging devices and running bathroom appliances. There was wifi that was comparable to all of the more rural places we stayed. The heat worked well, and the windows opened for fresh air. You'll feel like a 17th century aristocrat, enjoying their estate. Breakfast in the period kitchen is worth the stay in itself. Fresh local cheeses, fruits, eggs to order, and meats if you like. As vegetarians we had a substantial and delicious breakfast each morning with good strong European coffee and fruit juice. Oliver, the owner, and (Maryanne?) his assistant speak fluent English when needed. This house is Oliver's work of art. They were attentive when needed, and we came and went as suited us. I felt they had a instinct for when we were happy being on our own. It was a unique stay and a highlight of our 5-week journey through France in March/April 2025.
This is a period home, from the 17th century, so there was not a lift. This only makes a difference if you have really heavy luggage. I can't say I didn't like it, it is just something to reckon with if you can't carry your luggage up stairs. You get to learn how to use a skeleton key for the front door, which can take a little finessing.

Amazing old house with sumptuous, atmospheric, and pleasingly eccentric decor. Great breakfast. Friendly host. Air conditioned room very comfortable. Host thought I had booked a double but immediately moved us to a twin when he realised this was needed.
No facility to make a drink in the room. I'd booked a twin room but the host told me I'd booked a double. However this has been a repeated issue with booking.com so perhaps the fault is not with the hotel.

One of the most unusual B & B’s I’ve ever stayed. The whole chateau breathes history. Our room was like a film set. The owner is passionate and we loved that he chose to renovate this building and keep its history. Breakfast in the old kitchen was lovely. The owner was very kind and we enjoyed talking with him.
By it’s very nature not very modern - few plugs, not a lot of lighting, etc. The street is quite noisy.

The decor is interesting and historical. The breakfast was great.
As an American, a TV would have been nice. Also because I was travelling with my adult son, I requested 2 twin beds. The twins were put together like a King with one blanket. I wanted the beds separate and I thought 2 twins meant that.

Absolutely one of a kind. Decorated and maintained with a lot of love and unique flair. Kind host, great breakfast, 10/10 recommend.
If you need strong wifi access, this might be an issue. If you’re happy to disconnect and enjoy the ambiance of a truly special place- this is perfect.

Olivier Dutreif's accommodation is a wonderful place because it is unique. This is especially true of the decor of the large, old building. The rooms are very individually decorated and very large. But it is also true for the patron himself. He knows a lot about the region - culturally, historically and politically. He himself has travelled the world a lot, which is why he speaks excellent English and has time for his guests.
