The Grand Hotel Solesmes is a great place to break the journey south through France, as it is not far from the A10, just south of Le Mans. It's easy to find in the pretty village and has secure parking, which is great if you don't want to lug all your luggage indoors with you. Family run, the staff are charming, helpful and mostly speak English. Though there are other restaurants nearby, it's well worth booking into the hotel restaurant which has an excellent kitchen (you may not get in if you don't book). As a plus, there is a Benedictine Abbey in the town, celebrated for its plainsong. If you're lucky with timing, you might get to hear something exceptional.

Recently renovated reception and downstairs. Modern architecture well considered. Charming staff. Good dinner. Reasonable price local wines. Big private car park. Good location, quiet charming village, beautiful walks along the river and around the huge Abbey. Plus award winning boulangerie next to the hotel.

The location is in a village with a renowned monastery opposite. Surrounded with history and with lovely walks along the river. I loved my suite, very spacious with balcony and pleasant views over the village. Excellent restaurant.

Would have liked a tea and coffee making facility in my room.

Breakfast was excellent and the location suited the purpose of our visit to Solesmes

The taxi service in Solesmes and nearby Sable is not great but that is in no way the fault of the hotel and is outside its control. They were most efficient in ordering taxis for us.

This is a lovely hotel, clean and comfortable with a outside seating area in the garden. Parking was easy. The staff were attentive and helpful. The restaurant food was delicious and breakfast was also good. It is in a pretty village with lovely walks and overlooking the abbey.

We had booked a superior room which was really spacious and comfortable.

We thought our meal was a disappointment. We tried the 70 euro tasting menu but the main course was very poor and something not replicated at all on the main menu. I would advise choosing from the à la carte menu. On the positive side the wine list was excellent and well priced. The breakfast was awful and the staff incapable of producing hot coffee or warm milk. We were not offered any warm breakfast food or eggs.

We were aware beforehand but restaurant being closed Sundays is inconvenient when only options are to drive a few miles Toilet and bathroom are on opposite sides of room, with no wash basin in toilet - plenty of space to install one

The location was in a beautiful village with a Priory opposite which welcomes the public. Very near the river there are beautiful walks along the banks of the river Sarthe. Easy parking at the back of the hotel. A nice shady garden where you can have drinks. The breakfast was very nice with lovely bread and viennoiseries. I have special oat milk and they kindly heated it up for me.

I stayed on a Sunday night. Sadly the gourmet restaurant is closed on a Sunday. There really were very few alternatives nearby so I brought food and ate in my room.

Breakfast was fine but not included in the original booking. The location is fantastic in terms of proximity to the Abbey where we wanted to hear the monks perform Gregorian chant. Did not realize that the river valley and towns were so beautiful before our arrival. Very accessible parking with good security gate.

Unfortunately the restaurant was closed due to seasonal and staffing issues. The remaining employees prepared simple cold meals in the evening as an alternative. This was very good and much appreciated.

This was our third visit and we were not disappointed. With comfortable beds, excellent food and friendly helpful staff what more could we ask for? Love the new stair carpet. As always we enjoyed walking around the village and along the river bank.

We are being super critical here - perhaps a lick of paint here and there wouldn't go amiss. The bread was not of the best.
