We really enjoyed our time at Funken Lodge! The room was a great size and very clean, the hotel itself was beautifully decorated and very cozy in from the cold, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the service was top notch! highlights included: - a personal welcome upon arrival, and a packed breakfast when we left early to catch our flight home - staff would notify you in the evenings if there was northern lights activity - that's how we saw them on our first night :o - delicious breakfast and dinner, and the dining room had incredible views over the town and mountains Overall I would really recommend Funken Lodge, they made a once in a lifetime trip just that bit more special :)

The common parts were just beautiful, the storage provision at the entrance for boots and luggage, the reception, bart, cosy seating and lounge areas and restaurant were beautiful and very well thought out in terms of comfort and sophistication. The bedroom was a little overheated and tired looking - the paint work could be refreshed and made lighter - it felt a little dingy with dark walls and poor lighting. However, that should not detract from the overall which was a wonderful stay in a lovely hotel. The menu food was outstanding too!

Rooms were not bright enough and a little tired decoratively. They were cleaned to a very hight standard though. Not enough clothes storage.

Everything was so good during my stay. Good location, ambience, views, quiet places. Thanks for the nice gift arrangement for my husband’s birthday.

One of the staff - Richard during my stay, if name not wrong. On the first day, we were waiting to do checkin, he ignored us without letting us know that he need to assist someone to carry luggage when it was supposed to be my turn. Ended Tina/Lina assisted us for the whole process. And also, when Tina/Lina mentioned the front desk staff was 2 of them on the 15th Mar. He totally no eyes contact. Also, we bumped into him few times & same, still no eyes contact. We felt that we had been treated not welcome or racism. Other staff were very helpful and friendly except him. This was the worse thing that happened to me.

I liked the location at the end of the town. The view of Longyearbyen Glacier over breakfast was breathtaking. In general the staff were very helpful and when we come back to Svalbard we will stay in Funken, if the rates are still good. The room was lovely. One two nights an arctic fox passed by our bedroom window and another night a bunting (little bird) sang outside our room. Can you imagine?!?! It was amazing. The breakfast was quite good but the quality was not always perfect, but I have to understand this is the high Arctic, not Paris! The staff were so helpful over breakfast. A Sri Lankan lady (whose name escapes me just now, apologies) was wonderful and made us feel so o at home during breakfast. We feel we made a friend with her. Other staff were also very helpful. The receptionist guy from Oslo (I am so sorry but I could not see your name tag) who started in July was also particularly helpful and friendly - thanks! The gym was well appointed and quiet with a nice sauna I wasn't expecting!

On one day service staff forgot to clean the room and we had to ask, but that is not a big deal at all and they did a great job the next day and were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. A strange thing happened: We were told by other guests that they had walked into their room to find another man staying there and using their bed. This really upset them and unnerved us when they shared this with us. We didn't have any bad experiences but it made us a little concerned as to whether our room would be okay (it was okay) .

Loved everything about it, staff were great and everything was designed well and comfortable

Need to put up coat hooks to hang big coats on as don't fit in the wardrobe and you wouldn't want to hang a wet coat in with your clothes, food in the bar was excellent the one meal we had in the restaurant was extremely disappointing the potatoes were black inside and you were given 5 between two people, the cote de boeuf only came with the potatoes and lettuce we expected more it was just a very boring meal not special in any way

This is fabulous hotel on the edge of town - the staff were a highlight, from my checkin with Richard to the incredibly warm and helpful Tina and other receptionist from the UK, and really great bar staff Davide, Tito, and Tartour who were genuinely friendly and as interested in the landscape and all Svalbard has to offer. The company is fortunate to have such great staff! The hotel was perfectly cosy and inviting as were its staff! The n. lights can be seen from the back of the hotel - it was perfect.

Beautifully presented, cosey and traditional yet with a modern twist, perfect place to stay after a long day out in the cold.

Rooms were very hot and the location of the hotel is on a hill, if it’s an icy cold day it can very hard to walk down into town with all the ice and compacted snow, not easy for even fit and agile people but they do offer a shuttle and taxis otherwise as 15 min walk into the village. Not cheap either but I found it better value than The Radisson.

This is a cute comfy hotel, nice design, food is not bad. Surely not cheap and the room and toilet were very tiny and uncomfortable for 3 days but all in all a nice place to come back to and relax and intense cold and outside activities. They have a no shoes policy but give you nice home shoes to go around. The reception was all in all nice even though one day we asked them if they could prepare some food for us since we had an activity planned until 10 pm which was the kitchen closing time and it took much talking and waiting to finally get a yes to then find a small plate of cheese on arrival (the waiter then was extra nice and gave us one maccheroni and cheese plate)

The room and toilet are very small, we even paid for extra spacious room. At breakfast at times they told us the eggs were finished, I mean…

The breakfast was decent, not amazing. The dinner we had at the restaurant had great drinks and appetizers. Our entrees were underwhelming. Overall, the service throughout the areas of the hotel was exceptional. Every staff member, especially the front desk, went above and beyond.

The entrees in the restaurant (specifically the cod and the risotto) felt underwhelming, poorly seasoned, and relatively boring. This was the only drawback out of everything.

Overall the hotel has this cosy atmosphere, rooms very simple but very stylish. Heating in the room was perfect. It was also very quiet so it made really easy for me to unwind after a long day spent on tours. The staff is amazing, absolutely doing everything to make the whole experience even better. Special mention to Maggie and Sergey who went above and beyond to make sure that people enjoy their time in the hotel. Breakfast selection is just enough in my opinion, everything is fresh and well prepared.

Nothing, I absolutely loved Funken Lodge and already planning to come back for the summer season.
