Location. On a plaza by the river and bridge. Everything in old Nevers was within walking distance. The attic room we were in was spacious and had a great view of the plaza and river. The hosts were very friendly and are native English speakers. They provided a good place nearby to keep our bikes where we could access them during our stay. The waitress we had at the restaurant on Sunday afternoon was great and allowed us to order the charcuterie plate even though it was an evening only offering.

The steps to the room could be a problem for some. The restaurant was not open on Sunday evening and closed all day Monday and Tuesday.

The owners are lovely people, stopping to have a chat when they see you. All the staff were also friendly. Ideal location for the river and seeing the sights of Nevers. Safe bicycle storage in a small locked garage near the accommodation. Fully self-contained - easy to prepare meals. Delicious cafe underneath if you don’t want to cook.

In >30° temperatures the fan struggles to keep the place cool. The windows can’t be left open at night to cool it down due to the noise of people outside until about 1am - 2am. To be fair we knew all this before staying, but the location and bike facilities outweighed the discomfort.

The owners, Anna and Charlie, were warm, welcoming, and very helpful. The location on a lovely square on the Loire is excellent. Quick walk to the centre ville and all else. The rooms are spacious and charming. The cafe serves great food and coffee, and the staff are so nice. Great and safe storage for bikes. Very nice bike merchandise for sale inside the restaurant.

Brilliant location. Comfortable room and bed. Good food and drink. Excellent staff and proprietors. That sums it up. I value good, straightforward accommodation. I've spent years doing big 5 star hotels worldwide, professionally. But, I prefer intimate, unassuming, personable and different. Cafe Velo had it all. Charles, Anna and their staff make a good place to stay a great place to experience. To quote the ex-governor of California; "I'll be back".

Riding on my bike literally into the Cafe Velo, already soaked and just before the next rain shower began, and then being welcomed by ‘You must be Jasper’, was one of those experiences that made my journey to the south. Lovely room above the coffee shop. There is also secure bicycle storage on site. Anna was so wonderful and kind, she made our stay perfect! Also, eat here for your meals, the food is fantastic and you can sit out on the patio! 😊

The location, the whole set up of the café/restaurant and accommodation. Most of all the great hosts and personalised service. And we also got recommendations for the best pizza in town and were introduced to another local bar where we were well looked after as the hosts had had a quiet word with them to make sure we were ok.

Everything was on point and we had the added bonus of our own kitchen which we did not use but will do next time we stay.

Cafe Vélo offers a really warm welcome, with a lovely atmosphere and outlook. The room was exceptionally comfortable and well equipped. The café itself offers great food and drink, and is clearly a social hub with tables both inside and out. It's the sort of place we'd love to have in our own home town. Thank you to Anna and Charles, and their staff for a great experience.

Location was great on the Loire, access the old quarter and the La Loire a Velo. The room had a separate bathroom and a kitchen eating area for common use.

Clean and very functional. Excellent view of the Loire River. Walking distance to sites and restaurants. Staff friendly and kind. Owners are delightful.

Parking can be a challenge, but the staff can help direct to the available space.
