It was a perfect location for viewing northern lights. The resort's snow cat vehicle was great getting us to a warmed viewing hut that had hot coffee, cider and ramen. My husband enjoyed the ice fishing option the resort offers. The staff throughout the resort was fantastic, friendly and helpful. The wait for dinner reservations could be long, up to 1.5 hours, which could be a problem but the food was very good. The smoked salmon chowder was excellent. The little store eating place offered great breakfast pastries and coffee and decent lunch options if one didn't want to wait for the actual restaurant. The rooms are thermally heated so even in zero degree weather, we opened our windows to cool the room down for sleeping. We stayed in one building for two nights where the room was small but fine.. We stayed one night in a family suite that was huge...great for a family of 4-6.

Beautiful setting. Clean and comfortable rooms. Great food and drinks at the on site restaurant.

The temperature in the rooms is difficult to regulate. The restaurant needs to develop a better plan for seating customers at tables. They do not take reservations and the wait times can be excessive.

The nature! The northern lights and the hot springs were the two reasons we stayed here, and they both delivered! We took the aurora tour and we lucked out, seeing amazing lights. Truly incredible. The hot springs also lived up to the hype. The bottom is sandy, not mucky, and totally comfortable to walk on. One end was bathtub warm and the far end gets hotter to really hot! Our warmest day of the 3 we stayed was 5 degrees outside, so walking from the locker room to the springs is bracing, but makes the water feel so good. Also, we were pleasantly surprised with the food from the on site restaurant. The resort grows a hydroponic garden, so fresh salads and veggies were available, which was a luxury, me being a vegetarian visiting Alaska!

We stayed in the Moose Lodge, which is dated, but totally adequate and comfortable. The restaurant food was great, but there can be long wait time if you go during the popular times. Also, just a note, the aurora tour was great fun, but a few people got nauseated during the ride up and back.

The hot springs and landscape are stunning! The staff are friendly and very helpful. It’s an eclectic property with a lot of experiences offered on site.

The only negative experience we had resulted from the belligerent drunk (off duty) property bartender who joined our northern lights tour. He bragged about flipping one of the properties snow machines, and yell talked to anyone unfortunate enough to be near him. We watched him aggressively yell at it his coworkers on duty and throw a drunken tantrum. It unfortunately ruined the experience of the excursion we paid for and we’re looking forward to.

This was a destination at the end of the road and it was nice to park the car for a few days and enjoy the activities at the resort. We loved the hot springs pool, the ice museum, the nature walk and the northern lights excursion. There was more to do that we didn't choose and would have been even more in a warmer season. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Almost everything was extra money. Would have been nice to have breakfast or another activity or two included in the room price. Everything else was great.

The staff was wonderful. Need to be able to make restaurant reservations. Hard to wait 30-60 minutes for a table at times. Had to ask for maintenance twice when no one showed up the first time. Ran out of TP, asked for more never received. Dog sledding was great. Aurora tour was fun but if Claustrophic ask for front seat. Thermal pool was wonderful.

See above. Oops

The scenery at the hot springs and resort is amazing. The tour guides were mostly really nice. The lattes at the cafe in the Activity meet-up spot are GREAT!

Lots of unwritten rules about how to get food and drinks at the restaurant. No bartender on duty before 4 pm (but you just have to guess this because people are coming and going from the bar all day), can't sit down until ALL people are standing at the hostess desk (NOT sitting in the bar), no drinks served before 10 am. At the hot springs/pool - a random supply of the coin lockers don't work. Not really a big deal though people did seem to take my towel half the time when I brought it to the end of the ramp.

Lots to do at this resort! Whether your vibe is spa+massages and appletinis in an ice-sculpted martini glass or adventure-oriented hiking, dog sledding, snow machining, x-country skiing, Chena Hot Springs Resort has you covered.

Internet access is slow and weak, even in the lobby and activity center where the WiFi is strong.

We stayed in the Family Bear room. It was very clean and spacious. The 2 bedrooms and 1.5bath make it Ideal for a small family or two couples. The restaurant food was amazing and the hot springs and indoor pool were all well maintained.

We came straight from the airport and had a bunch of baby gear. The parking is a little ways away from the family rooms so be prepared to either lug stuff or come better prepared. We didn’t ask the staff but they might have been able to help as well.

Hot Springs were amazing. Ice Museum like nothing we’ve ever seen. Antiques, geo thermal energy and growing tours…just an incredible experience.

Room was dirty. Corners has piles of dirt. No notice that 50 cents was needed to use lockers. Need a better system for lockers.
