The little pension is run by a lovely grandma and grandpa. Very welcoming, even though there was a language barrier, as they do not speak English, we managed to get the point across via translation apps. They offer yummy breakfast and can prepare nice bento for you if you ask for it for lunch. The location is great, near the airport, however car is optimal for the best experience. The location of the pension is close to all of the main routes and key activities. We were staying in the private bathroom room and were happy with the facilities.

A cozy and quaint little inn nearby the airport. I loved how quiet it was there, with proximity to the airport and a few other businesses. The owners, though we couldn't really communicate with them, had a very warm and caring aura. They walked each guest out the door when they checked out. Even though we didn't order breakfast, they helped to make toast from the bread we brought. The room was a nice size for two, with a private bathroom, and a view of the front.

You can actually hear the airport notifications! Not a biggie if you're not there during the day.

The couple who run the pension are adorable and so accommodating! We stayed for one night, and the breakfast was the best we had in our entire Japan trip. The location is walking distance (albeit uphill) from the airport, with a grocery store just around the corner, which was very convenient.

The mattresses seem to differ from bed to bed, and one was uncomfortable. The aircon in our room didn't work.

Yakushima Pension Ichigoichie was a delightful place to stay with very friendly owners who prepared delicious breakfasts for us. Our room was tatami with futons for beds - we found these a little hard to sleep on so requested 'shikibutons', extra futons to go underneath, which did the trick. Our room had an en-suite toilet, but no bath/shower - instead we used the communal bath, which is available from 5pm each evening. The place is only 5min walk from the airport, which makes it incredibly convenient, though it's a drive to restaurants.

Everything was perfect. The food was absolutely delicious, and exceeded all expectations-- after every meal, I was left craving more. In addition, the hosts were very accommodating and informative. They made sure we had the best experience in Yakushima, recommending and scheduling tours for us, especially during the rainy days when we were not able to do much. They also packed lunches for our hikes. Despite the weather, just meeting them was an absolute pleasure, and I hope to return soon.

The couple that hosts the pension is sweet and the property is peaceful. Super near the airport. Japanese breakfast was beautifully done. Will stay again.

The owners were very sweet and accommodating. The experience felt authentic and personal. Rooms were spacious. We had breakfast included. It was delicious!

The AC was a bit hard to use with Japanese writing on the remote control but we could just ask help from the owners.

If you are going hiking, they can prepare a bento box for you if you ask in advance!
