Very friendly and welcoming staff in the hotel and bar that shared lots of helpful recommendations. The Hogsback Inn has lots of character if you want to stay somewhere charming with historic features. Our bedroom was very beautiful with a sitting area, terrace and large bed. We loved the little bar and the view from our bedroom of the stream was stunning. The fireplace and heated blankets in our room was a great touch.

Just a suggestion for a little heater in the bedroom on colder days for guests who struggle with the fireplace.

Loved every bit of my stay at the hogback inn. It was weird, strange and intriguing all at the same time. Had an issue with the shared gas geyser not getting to the right temp for a bath so I slowed the flow of water down to get it to the right temp after which I had no more issue.

Nothing....staff were great (a little ditsy at times but that just added to the enjoyment of the stay) and were extremely accommodating.

It’s an amazing little gem hidden away - it is old and dated but this is the charm. If u looking for 4stars. Go somewhere else. If I looking for a charming place where they try with what resources and finance they have. Support this establishment.

The chord for the kettle was so short I had to unplug it to pour the kettle. But - small issue - just unplugged kettle and poured. Loved the stay once again.

Position was great. Staff were very friendly and kind. It was comfortable and clean.

My only complaint is that we pre-ordered vegan food for dinner and this was promised but not adequately provided for. Plant milk was not available and very little was suitable at breakfast so I would recommend improving such provisions. The staff were kind and did their best but seemed clueless as to what was needed.

We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The TV in our room wasn't connecting initially but it was attended to very soon after we reported it.

The standard room that we initially booked does not come with a shower, only a bath. This should be made clear in the description of the room. We were offered an upgrade to a suite which had a shower but at considerable extra cost. The suite was comfortable but in need of some maintenance.

The lights from the inn were so welcoming as I arrived in the dark. The receptionist was such a sweetheart to check in on me regularly as I drove, as I had informed her that I was travelling the gravel road from Cathcart in a small car. The River Suite is gorgeous, and you'll feel as though you stepped into a fantasy book with the stream bubbling outside. The library is so homey, and I spent a few days working from there with the wifi. A fire was lit there for me as well, so it was the perfect Winter spot. The food is well prepared and puts quite a few restaurants to shame. The bar is lively and such a great place to meet people and have interesting conversations. The photos do not do it justice. It is a beautiful place, and I would go back in a heartbeat.

The road from Cathcart is not in great condition

Excellent location right on the riverfront, close to all amenities. Beautiful gardens and well kept swimming pool. Loved our recently renovated large room, a suite with an open veranda facing the river. Comfortable beds, electric blankets. Enjoyed the warm fire seated on the comfortable sofa. Stunning scenery and bird life right on our doorstep. Friendly, super efficient, attentive staff. Delicious breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the inn and our time in Hogsback. Waterfalls within easy walking distance of the Inn.

The Historic Hogsback Inn is situated close to a number of restaurants, as well as the Spar mini - market making it very convenient for those who wish to dine out. The restaurant on the property covers a wide variety of meals too, so there is something for everyone, should you wish to dine closer to "home".

The electricity in our room was off during loadshedding, but we were provided with enough wood to keep our room nice and warm. The restaurant is not affected by loadshedding, so we were still able to have a warm meal and make use of WiFi during that time.

Great location and beautiful setting. We were upgraded to one of the newly renovated rooms which was appreciated. Loved the pub and dining room area. Appreciated the friendliness of the staff and the current owner who assisted us with getting our bikes out of the driveway (very muddy and we had Harley-Davidsons which dont enjoy mud and clay). Wish we could have stayed for longer.

The access road from the "main" road down to the hotel's entrance is very slippery when wet (clay). Management were surprised at the price I secured on Booking.com so there was some argy bargy about the price but it was resolved amicably. Just surprised by this is all. Will definitely return.
