As you'd expect with a Parador, everything was superb! The staff are very helpful and accommodating. The location is superb - set in the foothills of the Picos de Europa mountains, near Cangas de Onis, the original capital of Spain. The history of the Parador - it is an ex monastery - should put this Parador firmly on the historian's map, also those who love outward-bound activities The room was spacious and very comfortable with a lovely bathroom and balcony. The gardens were lovely and there is a play area for children. Breakfast and all food (lunch, dinner, bar/cafe) were exceptional, specialising in local/regional gastronomy. was superb - a combination of high quality buffet and cooked to order food. The hotel even delivered a little treat - a local delicacy - for my birthday.

The one thing that bothered me, and is probably beyond the Parador's control, is an unsightly telecoms mast in the nearby hillside, within 50m of most of the rooms in the newer annex. In such a place of outstanding natural beauty, and for which many Paradors are renowned, how was this modern eyesore allowed to be installed so close to a notable and much valued historical building?

Onsite parking for motorcycle was provided & felt secure. The venue is amazing & interesting. We have stayed twice over the last 2 years. The room exceptional view with balcony over the back of the hotel. Breakfast was excellent! The hotel is a fair walk away from the town but you can arrange a taxi. A bit pricey in comparison to others but you get what you pay for here. Would recommend staying here to anyone as its a bit special.

The barman came across as being a little ignorant. We only wanted 1 drink prior to walking into Cangas & we felt that he ignored us. He didn't acknowledge us at all until we literally had to say. I have to say that he was working solo and there were a few others ordering food etc... so maybe this was the reason however, it would've been more professional to acknowledge us in the first instance. Maybe provide additional staff in that area when things get busy.

Great disabled room with the largest bathroom and most accessible shower of all the places we stayed in. Grateful for rooms located next to each other. Lovely historic building and an extra unexpected treat was the free concert in the onsite chapel. Very accessible parking. Easy drive into the mountains which were stunning. We appreciated that the information broads around the hotel explaining the history of the monastery had sections in English!!

Accepting that it is a historic building it was disappointing that there was no ramp into the inner courtyard for wheelchair users.

This was a first visit to Spain and I knew nothing beforehand of the Paradores. If this is typical I want to go to the others! I knew that this experience was going to be different from the walk to the room (in the original part of the building) which feels like a carpeted cloister. This old building, full of interesting nooks and crannies, with lots of interesting artefacts, has been set up to the highest standards for guests. All the plumbing was of a high standard, and it worked. The room was spacious with plenty of storage. A smallish window but understandable given the historic setting. A very comfortable bed. Little things that made us feel welcome as guests: the warm welcome in the dining room and bar, the extra food "goodies" left in the room with a nice note every day or two, the coffee machine. Little things that helped practically: the safe, plentiful car parking at no extra charge, the lift, a clear and itemised printout for checkout. We had two full evening meals and had snacks at the bar on several other days. The food was of very high quality, beautifully presented, and the dining room and bar staff were uniformly hard-working and pleasant (as were those at the reception desk). I very much enjoyed trying some of the regional specialities. The range of choice at breakfast was extensive, more than at most places that I have stayed. For touring, there are several other places of interest to be reached in an hour or so - we went to Ovideo, Llanes, Covadonga, Santillana del Mar, Ribadesella, San Vicente de la Barquera, El Mirador del Fito and Cangas de Onis itself. There is also at least one good full day's circular drive through the national park via Potes including some wonderful villages such as Sotres. On a rainy day, we did the long (2h30m) but relatively straightforward drive to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. We skipped Fuente De from our original list because of cloud cover. The hotel proved to be a very decent location for days out.

Honestly, I have no significant comments that I could offer for things that the hotel or staff could do by way of improvement. The only thing that I would say for anyone planning a stay of more than a few days is that you might find the evening menu limited for choice if you tend to avoid meat or certain meat products. Not a problem for me in any way. The food was excellent. Again not an issue, but it is a location for which you need to have your own wheels (minimum of two!) for getting out and about. Be aware that it's a slightly out-of-town location - it's what the monks would have wanted!

A large room with a small balcony. All up to the usual high standard of a parador. The situation is very attractive and the modern extension fits in very well. The usual excellent breakfast, ample parking is available.

The air conditioning did not work. Service in the restaurant was by far the slowest of the four paradors in which we stayed. As well as their guests they were also catering for a wedding party. The restaurant staff were run off their feet. Breakfast was very good, but dinner disappointed. Be aware the parador is some way outside the town along a busy road.

We stayed two nights in this top location, enabling us to enjoy the beautiful nature of Picos de Europa. As any Paradores, the hotel boasts style and culture in a very quiet surroundings. The breakfast was impeccable - great variety of fresh and healthy choices, tasteful fresh bread, great orange juice. The room was spacious and very stylish. We stayed half board and enjoyed very nice dinner - staff at the restaurant are very friendly and attentive.

Parador was extremely comfortable. There was so much of interest internally in the hotel that the 1 rainy day we had during our stay was easily occupied. Parking on site was excellent. Staff were very helpful, taking time to explain local areas of interest, checking access and weather, as well as advising on other paradors to stay in. Breakfast was fantastic, as was the evening meal we ate there.

We couldn’t stay longer.

Great, helpful reception staff. Tasty meals served by the bar. Good selection at breakfast buffet. Ample, free parking around the building. Rooms are spacious, functional and perfectly comfortable. Decor in public areas such as reception or hallways surrounding the central yard is stylish and top notch.

Like many other paradors, this one is located about two kilometers away from center of town so visiting Cangas requires a car ride and parking in town is not easy. Room decor is dated and reminiscent of the sixties of the last century. No coffee maker or an electric kettle in the room.

The old builing was fascinating and we loved wandering around looking at all of the history. The room was large with air conditioning. Breakfast was ample. Parking was easy.

We should have realised but the hotel was a 40 minute walk into Cangas de Onis (and it isn't really possible due to main roads) so if you don't want to eat in the hotel you need to drive.

The historic element. A beautiful building and the size of the room. We would have used the small seating area outside if the weather had been dry and sunny. The friendly staff. Beautiful location.

No tea/coffee making facilities or complimentary water. The electric car charging point wasn't working. The heating was off due to it being June however that room 108 was cold at the end of a corridor on the ground floor. The weather was cool and wet. We were given duvets.
