the location was really good. the hotel looked exactly as the pictures portray. staff was amazing, they were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond what was expected of them. especially our waiter Nirwan Uimukthi. the hotel is perfect if you plan on doing a safari. they organised everything for us at a reasonable price and the safari company they work with provided an amazing experience (great driver who knew where to spot animals, knew how to behave around them and even prolonged our safari so that we could spot an elephant family without additional charge).

food was okay, the drinks were excellent.

Our first stop in Sri Lanka was absolutely amazing thanks to the wonderful staff. I did not know each name but Indunil amongs the others was really great, nothing was too much trouble, everyone was so friendly. The room was spacious and very clean, perfect for our 3 days stay. The bed and pillows were comfy, the towels freshly cleaned and fluffy. We had delicious curries and cocktails and to top it all up, there is lovely pool to relax in after a day of exploring. The close proximity to the safari trip was excellent, we were one of the first through the gate when it opened in the morning. The hotel arranged safari was excellent. The room was a good size. The table and chairs on the terrace at the back of the room went unused as just in the dark , with no view when evening came and one might want to sit out. The terrace however at front of room had nice view of fields. We had the end room but others rooms wouldn’t be able to sit at front as you have to walk past to get to other rooms.

Only 4 sun beds around the pool for more than 12 room! We were not able to lie out by pool on first day because of this! Second day we were lucky and got 2 sun beds. We were told by manager they only had 4 but more would come on the first day, but they never arrived! We paid for a pool as a bit of a luxury after the safari , so this situation was disappointing.

The staff, particularly the restaurant staff was very friendly. The included breakfast was vast and tasty with choice of local or international style with lots of fresh fruit and fruit juices. They were helpful in arranging safaris as well as trip to the local Elephant Orphanage as well as tuktuks to the local temple. All in all a great stay. Very close position to the park entrance

2/3rds of the rooms looked straight onto a wall of an opposing building. A big shame as stunning views out the back over fields. We had been allocated a room looking straight into said wall but after I made them aware of my unhappiness they moved us to a much better located room on the 2nd day. This didn't quite tally with their promise of a room with a view. The proximity to the park entrance meant we were on the main road with some traffic noise and the pool was placed just by restaurant which wasn't ideal.

Really nice hotel with good access to the national park. We had safari and breakfast included and the staff were so friendly and helpful to fix everything to our liking. The room was spacious and nice, and we really enjoyed the pool and sunbeds. Could also arrange tuktuk to restaurants and taxi to Ella.

If there are a lot of children in the pool going crazy you will hear them where ever you are, since the pool is in the centre och the facility.

The young team are well managed and super helpful and attentive. The rooms are spacious with lovely bathrooms. The food served is fantastic and inexpensive. It's close to the national park entrance. The pool is divine!! For the cost, you get so much more here than you'd expect. Also.my friend hurt her foot on safari and the team here could not have done more to help, running us to the pharmacy, cold presses, carrying bags - just a standout place!

Only 4 sunbeds, an additinal 4 would make the lovely pool experience even better. The water in the pool is divine.

Nice clean hotel and rooms. Location near the Udawalawe National park, but not much else nearby. Big plus for bikes you can use for free! All in all a good place to stay for a night or two to see elephants and go for a safari. We had a half board with safari. Friendly staff!

Dinner and breakfast buffets were pretty basic, variety was okay but I think the quality of the foods served could have been better. Safari didn’t include park entrances and also from the entrance we got a guide to our Jeep without asking and told us his payment isn’t already covered after we already were in the park. (We thought it was included in the price. Not the hotels fault though, but you might want to check for safari packages elsewhere.)

Breakfast was excellent. Extra thanks for the personnel that we could eat breakfast after early morning Safari tour. It was also really nice to get a cup of good morning coffee before Safari (at 5.45 am). Thank you for that! Rooms are clean and bathroom big. Personnel was really friendly and really took care of the visitors. Mosquito net was available. Dinner belonging to room reservation was also good. Safari tour also belonging to room reservation was excellent service. Also our Jeep driver during safari tour showed excellent customer service skill and showed us a lot of such animals which we ever wouldn't have noticed ourselves. Great service!

The staff at Elephant Trail are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. We were greeted with cold towels and juice on arrival. The Manager is very attentive and always on hand to make sure guests are having the best experience… he had arranged for fresh fruit and decorations in our room for our honeymoon. The rooms are spacious and clean, with modern bathrooms. The breakfast and evening meals are delicious and plentiful and there is a clean pool to cool off in the afternoons, and bicycles available to use. The free WiFi is the best we’ve had while in Sri Lanka. They arranged our safari which was excellent, and the location is very close to Udawalawe national park entrance. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends ☺️

lovely 2 night stay over at Elephant Trail this Christmas, perfectly located opposite the National Park for us to do an early morning safari. and then we spent the afternoon around the pool. Also great location to get a tuk tuk to the elephant orphanage. advised to visit there at feeding times (we went at 5.30 for a 6pm feed) and you get to see 30-40 baby elephants being fed. Thank you to all the staff at Elephant Trail, they couldn’t do enough for us, especially the manager who showed my daughters some magic tricks at dinner time. thank you!
