Location is great! So close to the main attractions of Santa Monica, the beach and the 3rd st promenade shops. Staff at the hotel were very accommodating for our needs, from check in to departure.

Some of the costs that they add to the room were a little questionable, for example the supply of water bottles and the use/supply of the coffee machine. We didn't ask for this, but it's supplied and you need to pay extra for it. The location is great, however you should be mindful of street noise and traffic in the morning. If you like a sleep in it might not be the best spot for you.

The location was excellent and the staff were great.

Prior to my stay I received a message through booking.com telling me that I needed to follow a link to reenter my credit card info in order to keep my reservation. When I called the hotel to verify, I was told that the hotel's account had been hacked on booking.com and the message was a scam designed to enable fraudulent charges on my credit card. I continued to get those messages for several more days and from what I read it seems the breach wasn't new when it got me. What I don't understand is how the situation hadn't been corrected by the hotel or by booking.com. This is a major problem that someone should have corrected.

We loved the location - not far from the beach and the Santa Monica Pier! There was a nice, somewhat upscale, open-air shopping mall nearby. Also, there were plenty of restaurants from which to choose - along with McDonald's and Subway - all within strolling distance (smile). In addition, we liked the exterior look and the interior ambience of a century-old hotel!

It was difficult to sleep because of street noise - street cleaners, in particular.

The hotel was located in a great position giving easy walking access to both the pier and the shopping district. The bed was comfortable but squeaked loudly when you get on it.

The property is dated but some could see this as adding to the quirkiness of the hotel. The room I booked had a view of the building across the lane. I could hear the people in the next door room talking.

Great Stay at Hotel Santa Monica I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Santa Monica! The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of Santa Monica—everything was within walking distance, making it so convenient to explore the area. The hotel itself was lovely, with spacious rooms and a welcoming atmosphere. However, the room I was initially given was quite noisy as the hotel is located next to a pub. After I mentioned this to the reception, they were incredibly accommodating and upgraded me to a much larger, quieter room, which was a real treat. The staff were fantastic—very friendly, helpful, and attentive throughout my stay. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy the Santa Monica area!

There's a pub next to the hotel, so it can be very noisy

- Location is excellent! Close to beaches, restaurants, shops, ... - Staff is impeccable always smiling and supporting our questions. - In my room there was no street noise. My staying included Friday to Saturday. - I went by car and initially I thought of parking in the public parking. The hotel staff explained that the public parking reset the time every midnight. Meaning that if you leave the car overnight public parking will consider the hours of two days. So I left the car with the Hotel Valet and it went very good!

Is needed to do refurbishing in some places of the hotel. Things like stairs, room bathroom, elevator, they look very old and need an update.

We stayed at Hotel Carmel during Thanksgiving weekend, and we had an enjoyable experience. The location is unbeatable, just a stone's throw away from the Santa Monica Pier and close to the restaurants along Ocean Avenue. It made exploring the area so convenient and enjoyable. Another highlight was the comfortable bed. It was probably the best sleep we've had in a hotel in a long time. The mattress was firm, providing excellent support, and the pillows were substantial, unlike the flat ones you often find elsewhere. Finally, it was a good value for the area. Overall, we had a good stay at Hotel Carmel and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, convenient and cost-effective place to stay in Santa Monica.

The bathroom was a bit cramped and because our window faced the street, we could hear some street noise, including the occasional rowdy crowd. However, these were relatively minor issues in an otherwise enjoyable stay.

A great stay. Really good location. An excellent example of a Hotel from the 30's updated tastefully. Very comfortable bed. Good bathroom with a powerful shower. Just the job! Liked the arrangement with a nearby cafe for breakfast. Plenty of very clean towels and lovely stadd. Room kept vey clean during our stay. Excellent first impression on arrival by welcoming staff. Lovely coffee and a first-class coffee making machine in the room.

An on site breakfast facility would be good. Other than this observation - nothing else to add. Repeat business is a sure guarantee of satisfaction! We shall be staying here again!

We liked this hotel. Good vibe. Friendly and helpful receptionist checked us in and our room was exactly as expected, a decent size with everything you need for a short stay at a reasonable cost. The location was good with only a short walk to Santa Monica Pier and nearby Santa Monica Pl for shops and restaurants. The area seemed safe enough. The hotel doesn't have a breakfast option, but gives you a discount voucher for a café 2 or so doors down which does a great selection of drinks, pastries, bagels and a fantastic breakfast Burrito - highly recommended. We eat there both mornings. We would recommend this hotel and would stay there again if in Santa Monica.

Negatives were very minimal and have to be set against the price paid. Other reviews have mentioned the décor in corridors, which is accurate, but didn't affect our stay and as such the rating is still a 9 from us.

Staff Was Amazing! Especially At Check In! Our Valet, I Wish We Would Have Gotten Her Name. She Told Us The History And Even Walked Us Into The Building To Show Us A Couple Pieces Of History Of The Hotel. She Even Took Our Picture For Us In Front Of The Building. She Was Great! To Know The Building Is Over A 100 Years Old And Is Still In Almost Great Shape Is So Awesome. It’s So Cool For Us To Have Been Able To Be Part Of A Little History Still In The Making! The Hotel Is Close To The Promenade So We Walked There And Did Some Shopping And Then Took Some Electric Scooters To The Pier, All Is In Very Close Distance From Each Other Which Was Wonderful! Definitely Got The Full Santa Monica Feel In One Night!

What We Didnt Like Was The Fly That Was Already In Our Room Hahaha. The Water From Both The Sink And Bath Tub Took Forever To Drain. The Moisturizer Bottle Had Some Lotion In It But Didn’t Work And It Was Late We Didn’t Want To Bother Anyone Since We Were Just Staying One Night Anyways. Also Shampoo Provided Is Terrible Gave Both Me And My Wife Knotted Hair Since It Didn’t Condition At All.
