This place is such a wonderful place to stay! Always clean, always accommodating. The 'boys' in the family are obsessed with trains, and The Depot Inn has trains and information! It is completely decorated in train themes. The are a few suites and the regular rooms are awesome! In your room you are able to use a special TV and watch various live train crossings and stations. We browsed the Lookout and the Amtrak stations. It has a pool which will blow a whistle and water comes out a pipe from above, an outside BBQ patio and even bicycles (we) could ride. There is a pool table in the lobby! The location is perfect. Walking distance to a gas station, Dollar General and a fantastic Mexican restaurant! We have drove from Sioux Falls to Macon at least once a year and since we have found Depot Inn we would never stay elsewhere! Kudo's to all at Depot Inn! Love it

Only one instance this last stay was on day 2 of 3, I had asked housekeeping if we could just get clean towels and the garbage removed. I was told yes but it never happened. We took our garbage to the dumpster ourselves. I did hear a lady ask the girl I talked to "What did she want?" I assumed she was maybe a lead housekeeper...This was not a huge deal, however...

the staff was fantastic. When we left it was before the start of breakfast time but the gal put out some grab and go stuff for us so that we didn't have to start the morning hungry. She also made a fresh pot of coffee so we could have it hot.

Only one complaint. The outlet between the two beds had a dead socket. One worked one didn't. We could plug in the clock or the lamp but not both. We did alert the desk crew but it wasn't fixed before we left. However, it was the weekend so that may have factored in.

The Depot goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. We stayed in the Pullman Suite. It was beautiful. I was impressed by the small touches. The alarm clock has extra charging ports. That saved us some hassle because I forgot my charging block. The nice thick robes were great. I slept like a baby both nights because the bed was massive and like sleeping on a cloud. Soaking in the Jacuzzi probably helped with too. Also amazing. I was also able to soak up some knowledge about the history of trains and the La Plata area. Fun fact, I was super impressed with learning about Lester Dent. Amazing guy. So visit the Depot, or Google him for a bad ass read. 😉 The main thing I would like to go on about in this review, was the staff. We stayed for 2 days, and every time we left the room, we were trested like family. I was really blown away by the level of customer service. When we checked in, the weather was nasty and it was late, the lady at the front desk had turned the heat on in our room in preparation for us. That was so kind of her. The entire staff was absolutely top notch. If you want to be treated like royalty and are looking for a diamond in the rough, here's your place.

Everything was very interesting. To spend the night in a museum is almost a dream come true. We checked in and spent at least an hour reading about the history. I was a big Doc Savage fan, and seeing part of the story of Lester Dent, who created the books under the pen name of Kenneth Robeson) on the site made it even more exciting for me.

I really cannot think of anything I would have changed. I really had a good time seeing the history surrounding a city that was just a place we always drove by.

Outstanding personnel...everyone employed there from the ladies at the front desk to the cleaning crew are exceptional! Excellent ladies at the front desk(all 3 of them that I had the pleasure of dealing with), pleasant, your every need is attended to with exceptional service! Hotel is very clean! King bed mattress is somewhat on the hard side, but all the wonderful qualities of this hotel will keep us coming back!

Check in was fast and simple. Room was clean and quiet. We booked a luxury suite which had private access to the indoor pool and a whirlpool tub in room. Loved it! Parking for the suite was close to rooms. Unfortunately no restaurant at hotel as advertised in 3rd party booking sites, but there was an excellent Mexican restaurant within short walking distance. Nice views of vineyard and sunsets. Separate smoking area and patio with BBQ grill with plenty of seating and tables. Playground for kids and even had bicycles you can borrow for short trips around area. Definitely would recommend. And will book again.

The lack of restaurant in hotel was a disappointment. As was 3rd party booking sites also advertised a mini golf on site which was not true.

I liked how well maintained the hotel was, everything was very clean and rich in history. I also very much enjoyed being greeted with a friendly smile every day we stayed. I also very much liked how kid friendly they are, they provided a high chair for our baby every morning for breakfast and they have floaties by the pool side and the cutest playground. Such a great family oriented place.

If I had to point something I didn't like i would have to force myself to lie, we enjoyed our stay very much.

We always enjoy this establishment. The staff are always courteous, the facility is always exceptionally clean, the breakfast is always stocked. The exterior is always clean the interior and rooms are always clean and stocked. We will always consider this establishment when we travel in that direction. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Strongly recommend beds comfy, good pillows and good water pressure with mini fridge and micro in room. Beautiful like nothing i have ever seen in hotel..all one level like motel but more! Like a museum and hotel all on one. Very unique. Swimming pool, playground. They even have pool table in lobby! Lots of train memorabilia very cool place. Architecture is beautiful in the rooms as well as the entry lobby. Really enjoyed are stay. Rooms were quiet when we stayed one night, Tuesday in September. Will stay again if ever in the area again!

Only thing missing is in room kerig. But had coffee and tea available in lobby anytime u wanted.

Delightful train museum throughout the hallways, especially the Hobo Symbols which added amusement and explained the etching on our room door. Clean, soft, thick towels & washcloths (rare at hotels, so THANK YOU!!). Fun chance to play pool in their lobby. Friendly, outgoing staff. Nice breakfast. Reasonably priced. Wonderful experience!
