Depot Inn & Suites was the perfect stopover during our college move-in trip. After a long day of packing, driving, and hauling boxes, we were welcomed into a space that felt peaceful, clean, and genuinely special. The hotel blends modern comfort with charming railroad-themed design, making it far more than just a place to sleep. Our room was spacious and spotless, with a comfortable bed and thoughtful touches throughout. The train-themed décor added character without feeling overdone, and the quiet ambiance helped us recharge for the next day. The property is beautifully maintained, with picnic areas, a swimming pool, and walking paths to explore. The lobby and hallways double as a mini railway museum, which was a fun surprise and gave us a chance to slow down and enjoy the moment. Staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful—offering great local tips and making check-in smooth and easy. It’s clear they take pride in the experience they offer

My husband and l took a 15 day driving vacation from New Mexico through Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, then back through Kansas. We stayed in Marriott, Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn Express, and the Chicago Hilton. Along with the Hilton, the Depot ranked in the top two!

The breakfast, which overall was good, could have offered some buffet hot choices like scrambled eggs and sausage.

This place is such a wonderful place to stay! Always clean, always accommodating. The 'boys' in the family are obsessed with trains, and The Depot Inn has trains and information! It is completely decorated in train themes. The are a few suites and the regular rooms are awesome! In your room you are able to use a special TV and watch various live train crossings and stations. We browsed the Lookout and the Amtrak stations. It has a pool which will blow a whistle and water comes out a pipe from above, an outside BBQ patio and even bicycles (we) could ride. There is a pool table in the lobby! The location is perfect. Walking distance to a gas station, Dollar General and a fantastic Mexican restaurant! We have drove from Sioux Falls to Macon at least once a year and since we have found Depot Inn we would never stay elsewhere! Kudo's to all at Depot Inn! Love it

Only one instance this last stay was on day 2 of 3, I had asked housekeeping if we could just get clean towels and the garbage removed. I was told yes but it never happened. We took our garbage to the dumpster ourselves. I did hear a lady ask the girl I talked to "What did she want?" I assumed she was maybe a lead housekeeper...This was not a huge deal, however...

the staff was fantastic. When we left it was before the start of breakfast time but the gal put out some grab and go stuff for us so that we didn't have to start the morning hungry. She also made a fresh pot of coffee so we could have it hot.

Only one complaint. The outlet between the two beds had a dead socket. One worked one didn't. We could plug in the clock or the lamp but not both. We did alert the desk crew but it wasn't fixed before we left. However, it was the weekend so that may have factored in.

Cleanliness was A+! This Inn has such class. Everything is totally immaculate. I'm very picky and I couldn't find a single thing wrong. We've truly never stayed anywhere so clean. Decorating shows owners/management cares about making your stay special. We would recommend the Depot Inn without hesitation and cannot wait to go there again. It's the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in!!

As seasoned travellers from the UK we came across this little gem after stopping off the Amtrak station. The manager Ansh was fantastic and couldn’t do enough for us. The Victorian room was beautiful and very unique. The history and memorabilia in the hotel was very unique. La plata was a very special place for us and this property is just perfect would definitely recommend to any travellers!

Everything was very interesting. To spend the night in a museum is almost a dream come true. We checked in and spent at least an hour reading about the history. I was a big Doc Savage fan, and seeing part of the story of Lester Dent, who created the books under the pen name of Kenneth Robeson) on the site made it even more exciting for me.

I really cannot think of anything I would have changed. I really had a good time seeing the history surrounding a city that was just a place we always drove by.

The Depot goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. We stayed in the Pullman Suite. It was beautiful. I was impressed by the small touches. The alarm clock has extra charging ports. That saved us some hassle because I forgot my charging block. The nice thick robes were great. I slept like a baby both nights because the bed was massive and like sleeping on a cloud. Soaking in the Jacuzzi probably helped with too. Also amazing. I was also able to soak up some knowledge about the history of trains and the La Plata area. Fun fact, I was super impressed with learning about Lester Dent. Amazing guy. So visit the Depot, or Google him for a bad ass read. 😉 The main thing I would like to go on about in this review, was the staff. We stayed for 2 days, and every time we left the room, we were trested like family. I was really blown away by the level of customer service. When we checked in, the weather was nasty and it was late, the lady at the front desk had turned the heat on in our room in preparation for us. That was so kind of her. The entire staff was absolutely top notch. If you want to be treated like royalty and are looking for a diamond in the rough, here's your place.

Outstanding personnel...everyone employed there from the ladies at the front desk to the cleaning crew are exceptional! Excellent ladies at the front desk(all 3 of them that I had the pleasure of dealing with), pleasant, your every need is attended to with exceptional service! Hotel is very clean! King bed mattress is somewhat on the hard side, but all the wonderful qualities of this hotel will keep us coming back!

We always enjoy this establishment. The staff are always courteous, the facility is always exceptionally clean, the breakfast is always stocked. The exterior is always clean the interior and rooms are always clean and stocked. We will always consider this establishment when we travel in that direction. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
