Unfortunately we hit a kangaroo 20km from Rawnsley and were pretty shaken. We had planned the trip as a relaxing "chill" experience and that was definitely done as car had to be towed away so we had no transport to travel anywhere and taking walks was out of the equation as both recovering from health issues. Radiotherapy and other health issues. Our thanks for the late checkout to allow a family member to drive up and pick us up.Two bedroom cabin was lovely. Great beds and warm bedding was like a cocoon. The lovely girl from Kent was just lovely both in the Woolshed and bright and happy and caring in housekeeping. Thank you

It would have been nice if the reception staff asked if we were ok after we said we had hit a roo as we checked in. It doesn't happen to us every day and we were quite shaken.

From the windows we could watch the various colourful Australian birds in the trees and basking the sprinklers and bird baths. There were beautiful Red River gums with the white white trunks together with native shrubs growing from the red ground. The huge mountain bluff rising beyond. The feel of the Australian outback surrounded us. Plenty of room to spend time with friends on the verandah, and very accessible to parking. Plenty of tours to discover the Flinders Ranges were available. The Woolshed offered a good restaurant.

Wheelchair/walker access to the apartments would have been desirable. A surprise there was not a ramp.

Everything pretty much was as good as it could be, especially for a bush location. I particularly liked a restaurant that served sensible sizes of dishes (not the huge serves that are becoming too common) and of delicious food. The location in the Flinders Ranges is of course just wonderful. Nothing beats an inland night sky of course.

We understand the compact bathroom arrangements that allow well for a shared (4 people) arrangement . However, smooth door knobs instead of levers are just hopeless for people with arthritic hands. PLEASE fit proper lever-action door furniture inside. It would be useful to have a robust grab handle in the shower and a hook or two for hanging things like shower caps etc.

We visited during the off-peak season and, despite a smaller team, the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional. Our room, while slightly dated, was well-equipped and spotlessly clean. The à la carte breakfast menu was excellent, offering delicious and creatively prepared dishes in generous portions. Dinner is also a highlight for any meat eater, unfortunately it's a simple pasta and sauce for vegetarians. :/

Throughout our travels in Australia, in general, we noticed that the Australian kitchen has yet to develop a more thoughtful vegetarian or vegan menu options.

Location is excellent, facilities and room all comfortable, clean and of a good standard. Restaurant has excellent food. Some great walks onsite too.

It's just the pricing, it's all priced above what is reasonable. I get that remote sites are difficult to service, but it used to be a reasonable alternative to the pricier offerings at Wilpena and now it's just in the same bracket. The restaurant has 5 star food (it really is excellent) and 5 star prices ($50 ish for a main course, $16 more if you want bread, $16 more if you want vegetables) and 2 star service. Wait staff were trainees, but it was the same last time I went, they obviously can't retain any staff.

There is nothing to fault about this place. This was my fourth visit in eight years, and each time the experience improves. Like all cabins, we had a view of Rawnsley Bluff, so both the sunrise and sunset were magnificent. The accommodation was excellent. Spotless, well furnished, very comfortable beds, excellent kitchen facilities, hot water showers at the right pressure, heating and cooling (though we only used the overhead fans). The outdoor barbeque and seating facilities are great. We self-catered, and the kitchen contained all the utensils and cookware needed. Tea and excellent ground coffee were provided. I walked every trail on the map provided at reception. If you climb Rawnsley Bluff, make sure you also take in the Wilpena Lookout. The shorter, less arduous walks (Pine Grove, Kangaroo Gap Lookout and Clem's Lookout) are worth doing, but perhaps less of the 'wow' factor. Take water, trail mix, and your camera. There are multiple places to watch the sun rise and set in the area, but the station lookout on the map is great (picnic tables and seating). However, Pugilist Hill is 8km from the station and 'the' place to watch the world go by. Take your favourite people and wine, and admire one of the greatest views in the region. You get Wilpena Pound, Elders Range and Chase Range in a single 360-degree view. Spectacular. Reception is helpful and the station staff always ready with a smile or a wave.

I'd suggest blocking off that dirt track that terminates at Cabin 40. The few people who enjoy driving at 60 kph kick up enough dust to ruin a stay in a couple of the cabins. We didn't suffer, but a few of our neighbouring travellers were shrouded in red dust on multiple occasions.

If you are heading for Flinders and need accommodation, then look no further than Rawnsley Park Station. There is accommodation for different budgets, but trust me it has to be the Eco villas, treat yourself, you won't regret it. Superb accommodation, with all you could need, including a nearby pool. Large and beautifully laid out inside, with a superb wrap around deck outside, with gorgeous views into the trees and out to mountains, and wildlife all around. Breakfast food and drink provided is very good indeed. Complimentary bottle of wine too. From your bed you can see the stars from the roof lights above, really gorgeous addition. However, the night sky from your deck is something else. I was blown away. The Woolshed restaurant is great, with very good food and drink options. Do try and take the scenic air flight with Chinta Air over Wilpena Pound, it was marvellous to see from the air (thanks Cory). Wish we had stayed longer at wonderful Rawnsley, thanks everyone for a memorable stay.

Having to leave.

Lovely location. So amazing to sit on the verandah watching the sun rise. I could do that forever The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen functional The big windows were also great for air flow. We did not use the air conditioning till well into the morning and turned it off as evening arrived.

We had an ant plague - kitchen benches were over run. We could not use them to prepare food and every bit of food had to be stored in the fridge. They also got in my bag in my room. The step from inside the unit down to the verandah is REALLY dangerous. I fell down it once and hurt my toes and bruised my knee. My travel companion fell and saved herself from falling to the floor. This is a serious safety issue. It should never have been designed or approved. The toilet and bathroom were very tight.

Rawnsley Park is very well located. The sample self guided itineraries are great and there’s plenty of options for people who want guided tours. This was our first time in a cabin but we’ve previously camped and it’s just a great place with lovely views and easy access to everything. We came in the heat of summer so obviously enjoyed having the place pretty much to ourselves! Head up to Station Hill lookout with a bottle of wine and enjoy the sunset, or take in sunrise walk to the lake in the bush camping area. Flinders is very beautiful whenever you go and Rawnsley Park Station offers something for everyone!

There was nothing not to like. One small hiccup, there was water in the fridge but I didn’t check and the fridge was off at the PowerPoint. We didn’t notice until the morning. (just a heads up to check this when you arrive!)
