We had three nights stay at the retreat and it was a wonderful experience. My wife and daughter loved the place. The views in the retreat were amazing. All the staff were very helpful and always ready to assist even during busy hours. Defiantly recommended for foreigners who doesn’t speak the local language as the staffs are able to communicate in English. The food was also good. We mostly tried the western menu which met our requirements for breakfast, lunch, dinner and in betweens. Will be my first choice if I return to Yangshuo next time.

Nothing much to mention. Found the wifi in the retreat a bit slow, though not sure if only we faced the issue.

Incredible view and your balcony looks directly over the yulong River, front center and intimate. Stunning up close karst landscape with enormous bamboo clumps. From 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. sit back and watch the parade of bamboo rafts drift down the river in bucolic fashion, then go take a raft yourself and marvel at your hotel as you drift by. Super friendly English speaking staff caters to a domestic and Western audience. Immaculate rooms and The hotel has one of the best restaurants in town with a range of exotic local dishes.

Can't think of a single thing we didn't like other than it was super hot and really humid

Amazing location. I'd definitely recommend the rooms on the second floor as the lower rooms are not great but there are plenty of seating areas throughout the resort to compensate. The second floor rooms with balconies were amazing though. The home made pasta is amazing ! The free bikes are great, we used them to cycle the 12km path. The receptionists were also super helpful for anything we needed. I'd definitely stay again !!

The food was good but a lot of it lacked salt. It sounds weird but the homemade bread was a great idea but it didn't have salt so lacked flavour :( This is a minor point but one that could easily be rectified.

The location right on the river was spectacular. Beautiful views, great front garden. While no pool is advertised, there is a little splash pool that was perfect and deep enough for our kids (and an adult) to cool off in. We moved from a cheaper hotel here as, between the superb location, free bikes, and helpful staff, the higher accomodation costs were covered by fewer taxi rides and equipment rentals. We were so glad we made the move. All the staff are fantastic and helpful and make arranging things much easier. The food was also great with Western and Chinese options.

Everything was excellent. The extraordinary location, right on the river bank. All the staff speak English! In reality it is much more beautiful than the pictures on Booking. Thank you for the hospitality, for the help, for everything! If we come back to Yangshuo, we will definitely come to you! we will recommend you to everyone!

I love our stay at Yangshuo Mountain Retreat. We enjoyed our early morning by the riverside, catching the first glimpse of the sunlight at this glorious place with the Yulong River in the front and the majestic mountains in the background. The meals are delicious and delightful by the riverside, reminding us of our Lake Como experience in Italy.

We appreciate all aspects of the retreat and respect its delicate sewerage system as the building has great historical significance. It would be nice to provide adequate supply of toilet tissues at the bathroom and the storage area.

Exceptional and perhaps the best position on the river. Resort-style but small and so more intimate (and for us, more enjoyable). Great staff. Patient and professional. Good location for Riyu, Moon Hill, river walk, bridges, etc. Can literally walk out along the river, across fields... Family rooms spacious, good views. Fantastic garden with tables and loungers for breakfast and dinner (lunch if you stay) with space for everyone.

Be warned that the cheaper room on Booking.com has no balcony and the position of the couch and bed, plus the balcony of the room next door, means you can't sit/lie in your room and look at the amazing view. This is frustrating if you expected a view! Usually you wouldn't stay in your room as there is a lovely garden with tables and loungers but when we arrived it was pouring. We moved to a Family Room the second night and I'd advise you to do that directly if you can and want to pay the difference.

The location and the outside appearance of Yangshuo Mountain Retreat almost impossibly beautiful. It is situated a stone’s throw from the Yulong River in a valley that is one of the most magical places I have ever visited. Near-vertical towering karst terrain spires line the valley on either side and tower directly behind the resort itself. The resort provides free bicycles which are better maintained that those that I have found for free in other hotels and there are free helmets and bicycle locks provided. The bike ride up the valley for a mile or so along a wide brick paved path that runs along the banks of the river offers a parade of vertical peaks on either side of the river(there are more extensive bike routes listed online but these involved sharing the road with busy auto and motor scooter traffic and I,for one, did not think the risk of an orthopedic, or head, injury was worth it). The Yulong river valley is lined with small farms and has so many gorgeous plants(from banana trees to rice ready for harvest and local wild flowers), that I chose to walk it several times to appreciate the fine detail one misses when biking. The exterior of the resort itself is very charming with exuberant blooming bougainvillea lining the path and framing the verandas of each room. The interiors and plumbing are somewhat old fashioned but comfortable and clean and the rooms have a small veranda with chairs and a small table looking out onto a stunning bougainvillea-framed view of the river and mountains. The staff were friendly and went out off their way to be helpful. They welcomed us on our first day with a complimentary pot of ginger tea and a little plate of cookies. The ginger tea was so good we went back three times during our stay for a pot of the same tea. The restaurant was cozy and the chinese dishes were good(we did not try their western menu).

I was initially disappointed that the complimentary shuttle rides to town which were described in the listing had been discontinued after the Covid epidemic waned but we found that the Didi commercial ride service was great. Clean modern cars arrived within minutes of being hailed on the app and only cost 2-4 US dollars for a ride to or from town so I would not let the lack of a shuttle service dissuade me at all from staying here.

We loved the location of our hotel and the property is beautiful. It is by Yulong river (the smaller river in Yangshuo, not Lijiang), and in our opinion it is the perfect location. It is less crowded (10 minute drive from the main town) and a lot more peaceful. The rooms were very spacious and clean and the views were incredible. We were on the 2nd floor and had a balcony. I would recommend making sure you are on the 2nd floor for privacy (the large screen doors are glass and see through, and the walkway is very close).

The food in the hotel was not very good and very overpriced. For one meal, I had to send back a bowl of noodles because the noodles were so overcooked they were falling apart when I picked them up with my chopsticks. I have never sent back a meal but this one I felt like I had to. You can get way better meals outside the hotel, but since the hotel location is more isolated, some might find this inconvenient and decide to eat at the hotel instead.

The riverside setting is beautiful. Staff were friendly.

Unfortunately I had a back room partly due to availability. There are no black out curtains and the light from a back courtyard remained on. I was eventually able to notify someone in the middle of the night to switch it off. I needed to use my laptop but wifi kept on dropping which was very frustrating. The offering of free bikes would be great if they were of a reasonable standard. Unfortunately, in both cases where I used one the stand kept dropping over every bump, necessitating a stop to push it back up. The brakes were also of dubious standard. Better to rent a higher quality one for long rides.
