Yohannes, the owner of Zan Seyoum Hotel, is a man with a heart of gold. I was welcomed with great love and kindness. I haven’t experienced such an abundant amount of care and attention anywhere before and I do travel a lot. Seeing all of Lalibela, every UNESCO Workd Heritage church was made easy and seamless as Yohannes had provided me with a personal guide, Abeje. The entire experience was very agreeable. Everything was clearly arranged to be a well-oiled machine for tending to every last need of which any tourist could conceive. It’s a shame the country (and tourism industry) has gone through not only the pandemic, but also a debilitating war. A treaty has been signed however and I travelled to Ethiopia not long afterward as it has always interested me and I finally had the chance to go. Not once did I ever feel unsafe. Abeje, my personal guide, with whom I spent most of my time, especially sought to my every need while touring Lalibela and beyond. I trust him and Yohannes without a single doubt. They both are family men who love to serve and take their faith in God seriously. I opened up to them my last night there about the recent loss of my wife and it was as though I were talking with loved ones I had known for years. Abeje was very insightful as well. I planned on going on another tour which goes through Abuna Yemata. He was well aware of the dangerous zones to avoid on the roads, and helped get me set up to continue my journey as safely as possible. I really would have been completely lost without him with me the entire time. I don’t usually use tour guides as I’ve done a lot of solo travel before. In this case Abeje was indispensable; I very much needed his knowledge and direction. Apart from keeping me well taken care of, Abeje was very well-versed in all things of which Lalibela is known across the world. He really gave the entire tour a deep level of historical and cultural insight.

The only thing I didn’t like was that I had not come earlier in life. I’m grateful I finally made it there

Excellent location which is 15 minutes walk or a short tuktuk ride from the beautifully carved churches of Lalibela .The room were very clean , spacious, comfortable beds and have a very good bathroom .The owner and all the staff were very hospitable and accommodating.They organized a wonderful tour to Lalibela churches and outside.The wifi was fast and stable and the view is beautiful. I highly recommend Zan-Seyoum Hotel Lalibela to anyone who wants to visit Lalibela.

I had a wonderful stay in Lalibela, and this hotel played a big part in that. The staff is incredibly welcoming, with a special mention to Johannes, always smiling and attentive, who made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. The location is perfect — close to all the main sites yet peaceful and quiet. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was generous and delicious, with fresh fruit juices, pancakes, and tasty herb omelets that I looked forward to every morning. A heartfelt thank you as well to Thomas, a passionate and professional guide. His clear explanations truly enriched my discovery of Lalibela. He was always available and kind — I was even honored to be invited to share his family’s Easter meal, a deeply moving cultural and human experience. Highly recommended!

An extremely comfortable stay with flexible and attentive staff

As we came to the hotel we were welcomed by yohan, the owner, with a big smile and lots of tips. Arranged for as a guide and sent us for the day. The room is basic but clean and comfortable. No air conditioner in the room. The shower clean and with hot water. When we came to the hotel in the afternoon, the owner received us hot lemongrass tea from his garden and a plate of roasted peanuts. Evening as the city went without power, the hotel has a generator and we were fine with electricity for the evening. Breakfast included: eggs, pancakes, bread, banana and organic honey. Drinks fresh Papaya juice, coffee and tea. All very fresh and tasty. The owner is very generous and thoughtful. The hotel is 30 minutes from the airport and about 20 minutes from the churches. When I come back to Lalibela, this is the place to stay.

Great location in the center of Lalibela, Yohannes is a great owner which will make all efforts to provide you everything you need to explore the town and the surroundings. The room is spacious and clean which good bathroom and hot shower. King bed comfortable and clean linen and towels. Rooms are cleaned every day. Bkf is included and very good. The guest house arranges dinner as well which is very good. The environment is cozy and you can easily meet other guests and locals during the evening. There are experienced guide provided as well to support the visit and guide you through the area with good explanations in English. Mogis was a very good guide for all the period I spent in lalibella and very helpful. Highly recommended!! Thanks Yohannes and Mogis for the lovely staying. It was a great experience for me. Nothing, all was good and well arranged.

The owner, Yohannes' soul purpose is to ensure that your stay is pleasant, comfortable, enjoyable and satisfactory. The rooms are clean and tidy, bed very comfortable and understandable why this hotel received high reviews from previous guests. The centre of Lalibela is a short walk away or use one of the many Tuk Tuk transport to get you to where you want to go. Many restaurants, ATM's', banks. All the main churches are within walking distance too. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and highly recommended.

Everything was perfect, the place is nice and the owner organised everything for us. He send a guy to pick us up from airport and brought us to hotel. He welcomed us in hotel with a warm welcome. We always felt very save and welcomed and the guide Thomas brought us to all magic churches and in the evening we had a nice dinner with him. The guide pretend us from some beggers and served us like a family. I also recommends a guide otherwise you will not see everything... Hotel, hotel owner and the guide is a great combination..

The accommodation is comfortable. The room is spacious with clean and hot shower. The breakfast was simple but good. The owner is welcoming and helpful, he always reaches out to make sure everything is okay. The accommodation is not close to the churches but it is very easily to get there by tuktuk. There are some nice restaurants around the accommodation too!

The stay was excellent. The hotel is completely renewed and service and staff are really good. Rooms are big and very clean and personnel was really helpful with everything. Great value for money.
