Beautiful historic house with a lovely traditional garden. Specious common area with a full kitchen (range, microwave, large fridge, dish dryer. Complementary Green Tea & Coffee (yes, they do have single serve milk/cream pods and sugar for those of you who need it :-)) Spotless shower, toilet and bathroom areas. Stay comes with bath towel and a face towel. Four WiFi routers to connect to with plenty of outlets for all your electronics :-) Electronic access front door for 24hr access along with a room key. Tatami mats in rooms, hardwood floor in common areas. Japanese footon (firm) with duvet cover on top (very fluffy and cozy). One pillow, best for back sleepers. For Winter: heater in each room. For Summer: washi paper screens on windows so one can air out the room yet maintain privacy. Shower has both a body wash and shampoo inside. Everything one needs in a truly lovely house. The property is right next to a small temple; very suitable for a morning contemplation before setting out for the next leg of your journey. I highly recommend staying at this property.

We liked Uji Tea Inn very much! The inn is very pretty, and the staff is very nice. Some things to take into account if you plan to stay here: - The rooms are quiet enough, but if other guests are loud, you might still hear it. It's not the fault of the accommodation, as it's basically up to luck if others visiting will be loud or quiet. If you are a light sleeper or like to sleep in late, you might need to consider this before booking. - It's about ~30min train away from Kyoto station, and ~15min walk away from Uji. We liked this since it means it's also more peaceful, but not everyone might want this for their stay. - It's close to the Nintendo museum, but the tickets for it operate on a lottery system and need to be booked several months in advance. If Nintendo museum is in your plans, check Nintendo museum's website well in advance on how to get the tickets.

The bathroom is quite small, and can be tricky for tall people. It was a bit tricky for me (I'm almost 2m tall).

I loved staying at the Uji Tea Inn so much. The owner and staff are so sweet and helpful and we felt very welcome. The best part was being able to stay in Uji close to so many matcha and tea shops and in a quiet neighborhood. The Inn is also only an 8-10 minute walk to the Nintendo Museum! I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend anyone visiting Kyoto to check out Uji. Booking a private bathroom and triple room for the two of us was VERY worth it, especially if you're planning to stay multiple nights!

Distance from the stations isn't too close, but still a doable 15-20 minute walk to Ogura and JR-Ogura.

Uji Tea Inn offers a perfect blend of convenience and traditional charm. Located just 8 minutes from the nearest station, it’s an excellent base for exploring both historic Uji and Kyoto (only 30 minutes by train). I rented a bicycle to explore the old town center, which was delightful. The inn is surrounded by green tea companies, including a famous matcha producer just a few minutes’ walk away - perfect for tea enthusiasts! Practical amenities abound: a 24/7 supermarket with fresh products is right by the station. Inside, the inn is cozy and peaceful. My room was small but clean and comfortable. The shared kitchen and living room with a nice dining table made it easy to feel at home. The owners are friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to experience Japan’s tea culture while maintaining easy access to Kyoto’s attractions.

Location is great for walking to the Nintendo Museum. Owner was very accomodating and let me park my motorcycle for free past the time I had checked out (so I didn't have to pay for parking around the Nintendo Museum). It was also nice to walk around the more agricutural-centric areas of Kyoto. Laundry available for a modest fee, which was helpful. Interior was nice and rustic, and felt appropriate. Bathroom and shower were small, but happy to have my own (instead of shared). Good value as a guest house!

The street right outside can get a little loud with scooters wizzing past, but I slept fine with earplugs in (which iI usually put in anyway).

Clean and well set up place to stay. We found a local restaurant around the corner and had a great time in a local area. Super clean and Host lovely. We took a taxi from station to Uji Tea Inn as it was so hot. We walked to station the next day around 10 mins.

We were happy with our stay and have no complaints at all. If you are looking for a unique place to stay this place is good at a good price and spotless clean

It was prime location for the Nintendo Museum. The executive suite was well worth the price. Loved the old timey feel of the room with the updated facilities. Staff was nice, friendly, and helpful. Having the two aircon systems helped the circulate the air to deal with the Tatami floor mat smell.

Tatami floor mats had a smell I wasn't expecting but other Tatami mat places I stayed at had the same smell so it's just the smell of Tatami mats.

It was wonderful and memorable staying in this 100-year Japanese house for 18 nights. The guesthouse was in a peaceful quiet neighborhood and it's ~20-min cycling distance from the main Uji tourists area. The cycling route was enjoyable. The hosts were super nice. They helped me rent a bike from a local store promptly, shared lots of local travel tips and stories. I particularly love the big and super clean kitchen with all the necessary amenities readily available. The small garden provides good ventilation to the house. I would definitely come back again if I have chance. The tea cafe Morihan just 2 mins away was also a nice place for a relaxing afternoon.

Hayashi and the housekeeper are both gems, and the location is so close to the Nintendo Museum. It's awesome! If you're looking for a great experience that you can tell all your friends, I definitely recommend staying at this inn!

I really had to get used to the sleeping arrangements.The location is a good bit out of the way from a majority of the action in Kyoto, but that does lead to overall quieter nights.

The living room with a big table overlooking the zen garden, perfect to sit there while having your morning drink. Coffee and tea provided for free are of great quality, we had many cups evert morning during our stay. Nice bathroom in the room.

I have slept on tatami before and never had issues, but this one in particular was really not comfortable.
