Great roof-top onsen style bath with views of the lake. Very quiet location even though it is a large hotel. Great selection of food at the dinner and breakfast buffets. Interesting walks through the hells (jigoku) hot spring fields. Very reasonably priced restaurants in the small town centre. There is also a local bus service linking the hotel with Isahaya station and Shimabara ferry port.

We wish we had booked to stay longer.

Everything. The location was beautiful with multiple places to walk to see the beautiful scenery, easy access from the train station using the bus, the Onsen was relaxing, the rooms were spacious and clean.

No shower in room. But if you used the Onsen there was one there to use.

Buffet Dinner and Breakfast are great! Outdoor Onsen was amazing - view of the lake! The proximity to the thermal pools was also a plus!!!

Futon beds okay, but 9 inch mattresses would have been best!

Everything is great, location is convenient, room is clean and spacious, onsen is comfortable, and food is delicious 😋 highly recommended 👍💯

Perfect on all counts. I got the Japanese room, which is huge albeit old. Including parking at premises.

Bathroom is old style but clean.

I'll start with the positive. A very pleasant room size, good view, friendly and helpful staff and generally a lot of space in the hotel by Japanese standards. The best thing about the hotel is the evening buffet. I have rarely eaten such a good dinner. The dinner is also very attractively priced. The hotel is also very centrally located and at the same time very close to nature and a lake.

However, there are two problems: 1. the hotel is overpriced, the price/performance ratio is unfortunately not so good. 2. the building seems to be a bit older and (therefore) the cleanliness leaves something to be desired.

Needs a bit of renovation

All staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.

Initially placed in a smoking room which was unpleasant but we were shifted once we raised this with the staff. Facilities were very dated and seemed poorly maintained compared with all other onsen hotels I've visited.
