Ideal for people traveling light! Be aware it is far from the station and far from the only combini in the city. The accomodation makes up for that by providing basic foods and necessities (incl. towel rental) for average supermarket prices. The positive side of that is that you are in an actual calm nature and not too far from the Biwa lake beach that feels like a sea beach (beautiful day and night). The traditional Japanese room was very pleasant and unusually spatious, and you can use the common spaces - big bath, showers of course, cheap laundry machines, and a big kitchen-dining room, where you can use coffe and other things for free.

For people who need a specific choice of food: it is necessary to prepare in advance before coming to the city. However if you don't mind, there was enough to get by.

Clean hostel with good well-stocked kitchen and lovely beach nearby. We didn't swim but even sitting by the lake was really lovely and relaxing. Others have mentioned long walk from the station but we didn't find it too bad at all. It's well signposted and more or less straight. Our double room was clean and spacious and bathrooms clean also.

Definitely need to plan your meals here as no konbini nearby and many of the restaurants have erratic opening hours. We had no car which definitely added extra layer of difficulty. Walking would really recommend Hito Kokoro bento boxes at nearby Hira station (delicious food, good prices and open 11am-5pm) Otherwise train to Katata is good option for food in the evenings, and there was Ratta Bakery in Shiga which was absolutely delicious for breakfast

I liked that it's close to Lake Biwa, I was there for an event and I could easily walk to the start of the event. I was pleasantly surprised, the outside of the building is very simple and unassuming, but the inside is nice and spacious, the hostel bunks are also quite spacious. The common area is also neat and has a nice view of Lake Biwa in the morning. It's easily accessible by train - about 1.5km walk. My only recommendation is don't check in at night if you are using public transport, the road to the venue is a bit dark and empty at night (it is the countryside so definitely a different vibe to say Tokyo). The guests were mostly younger travelers. If you get a room near the common area and you prefer quiet I advise having ear canceling headphones, the talking didn't bother me, but one of the guests bunking with us was a bit upset about the chatting. I also like that they have seperate shower rooms.

The guys cleaning the rooms could maybe have a sign on the door explaining that they were cleaning, I was a bit surprised when I came back to my room at about 11:20am so before check out and a young man was coming out of the female only dorm.

✓I stayed in the female dorm, the bunks were spacious and equipped with a night light and a couple of hangers. ✓The location is convenient, 15 minutes on foot from the Omi Maiko station. (Can be scary in the dark, there's no street lighting.) ✓The common room is spacious and the kitchen is well-equiped. ✓There's a beach 5 minutes from the hostel. ✓Quiet and peaceful, near hiking trails. ✓Free onsen, I used it 3 times and had it all to myself every time. Protip: You need to do your shopping beforehand, there are no supermarkets or combinis nearby. There's a big grocery store right next to the Wani station.

–No space to store luggage in the dorm except inside of the bunk, which is unhygienic. –Towels aren't provided, you need to have ¥100 in coins to rent one. –Awkward vibe for a hostel. Seems to be mostly staffed by (unenthusiastic) white backpackers. –You need to keep pressing the button every 5 seconds to keep the water flowing in the showers. –Not the cleanest, especially the floors.

Peaceful away from city area and place. I chose the bed with the view of the lake, and I highly enjoyed my stay. The kitchen and showers were always clean, even with the amount of guests using it. I caught the train 4 stops away to the closest supermarket and stocked up for the week, but also went on walks from the hostel and got lunch out. They also have food and supplies at reception to buy if only staying a few nights. I rented a SUP from place across the road, even in low season and had a lot of fun!!! Things to do around the area when it's sunny, when it's raining it's nice to sit inside the hostel as well

The staff responded to me right away in the booking app… There’s bicycle parking, your own room is big, beautiful view… Thats it… I STAY THERE ONLY COUPLE OF HOURS. Which leads me to the next best thing about this place.. self check in even late at night. Really saved me. Theres also onsen but I didnt used

Idk, got rhere on a bike so idk how bad or good is the location, I guess theres a lot of insects inside the hotel, but not inside my room thank god. So idk actually Towels are extra payment, but again I didnt used xD

Friendly staff especially Kaito who invited me to play 5 a side Futsal with him and other locals. As a Futsal player it’s always a joy to be able to play at locations you mever expect to play. I enjoyed cycling along Biwako as well. Getting to see the the mountain ranges, beatuiful lake scenery and traditional Japanese housing. I also got a free fishing gear to rent to fish around Biwako.

Of course you can expect snoring from other guests when sharing a room with them. But valie for money wise i think it was worth it

This hostel has private rooms (Japanese style) which are very spacious, and the common area is amazing, very spacious, great kitchen with everything you need, and nice place to chill.

It was a bit expensive I think for the location which is very rural. Not much to do around this area. We knew this beforehand and came to mostly chill. Also might be too many volunteers in this hostel, so many times a day someone is cleaning next to you haha..

The open space for guests is spacious and well facilitated. Big kitchen with 2 rice cookers , microwave, water bottles... a few tables for dining and outdoor dining area with good view. Bath and shower area is big with Japanese style. Enough toilets at each floor. Clean Near to the lake, fresh air and goud view

The location is a bit off the road, to walk about 20 minutes from teain station. No shops around, but they do scheduled transport for shopping for guests.

Although it was a little bit further away from the city, this place felt like it gave you a real authentic experience. The location and being able to ride around on the bikes through the little villages was something else. Being able to kick a ball around for a little bit, the awesome restaurant (had the chef special and it was unreal! ) really Happy for the couple that run J-Hoppers) Loved everything.
