Great sea front location. Large room with very good kitchen facilities. Stylish garden with nice pool and hot tub.

Accessing our bath was hard as it was very deep meaning a high step in and out. As a historic building the windows are not double glazed so noise from the road and outside is fairly high.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The whole process from booking to check in to check out was seamless. We got to LA a bit early and our check in time wasn't due till 4pm but they let us check into a room a few hours early (we were also able to use their bag lockers whilst we went for a walk to the beach). Rooms were clean, up to date and comfy. The staff were super friendly and very accomodating to any requests we had. The heated pool and spa were an amazing feature. The hotel is located in a perfect spot, right near the beach and a brief walk away from Santa Monica pier. Plenty of food and shopping in the area. Will be back soon!

This is a wonderful little hotel - just provides the bare necessities, but gets those right. No food or service included (although cleanings are available). Just a quiet, clean and comfortable place to sleep in a fabulous, convenient location. Check in is via their app (a code to enter the room is sent) and it's all a bit impersonal, but that was fine. There's a club on the roof but I didn't find the noise bothersome, and the hotel provides earplugs and a white noise machine, so I slept great. The very comfortable bed - mini fridge - coffee machine were all appreciated. Good food options one block away.

The AC had run amok in the first room I was put in (it was 52 degrees according to the thermostat), and I couldn't get it to warm up at all. Online chat was useless so I called, and a very friendly Sonder rep got me in a new room immediately. (In fact, I was given a superior room with a great view). Parking is shockingly expensive (49$/night) but I was able to find street parking three blocks north on Ocean.

The location is absolutely incredible, right on the water with beautiful views and a short walk to the pier. There is a fun rooftop bar here but it’s more like a club and was super busy really early on with no residents just external guests - but you can’t hear from your room. The rooms are lovely and clean too. The key on the app worked great too. The valet guys were just lovely and super friendly and helpful everyday.

They do not do any housekeeping during your stay - you can request this on the app which is fine but we didn’t realise until a few days in! It’s free to do though but you just have to request. Although the valet was great and super easy, it is $50 a day - the car park is right next to the building and is more a self parking lot so this felt VERY expensive (they were friendly and the car is kept safe though) - but 50 is very steep!

Location - amazing. Hotel - quite nice. I liked the self service aspect. Staff I interacted with was brief and OK - no ones going out of their way or anything but they are there if you have a question or whatever. I'd definitely come back - if you're going to LA stay at the beach, y'all. The hot tub / pool / cabana-ish patio area was clean and really nice which I really appreciated. Loved the towels on the lounges. Amenities room and gym were clean and nice looking. Also, used the app to inquire about staying another night - didn't as I decided to just stay close to the airport - but they were quick to respond and kindly presented me with an option and when I declined were nice, said thanks, see you next time etc. Felt safe there even tho I saw someone in the bushes below my window shooting up who knows what.

No real issues that I can think of... oh yeah I did have to walk up the stairs to my room one evening when I returned as apparently the bar upstairs was active. One would think you'd not make hotel guests wait in a line with random bar patrons to go upstairs, but, m'kay. The guy there was quite lovely, so not complaining about him per se.

The hotel staff - especially Robby, Tomisha, Jasmine and Sandra - went above and beyond with their hospitality. Thank you! Our apartment offered a full kitchen with nice views from the upper floors. Perfect location: peaceful rooms despite being in the heart of Santa Monica. A Farmers Market is also right outside twice a week.

There's a lively bar that can be heard on weekends - request a room away from that side for a quieter stay. Our room on the opposite side was perfectly comfortable.

What a wonderful hotel to stay at, loved the area of Santa Monica, loved the view from our hotel window and loved the roof top bar! We will definitely go back if we ever visit again. I loved the history of this hotel it was so retro and the bathtub 🛀 OMG - love it! I just like to say a big massive thank you to the receptionist who checked us in, she was so helpful and welcoming, she made our stay even better!!

Great staff!!! Clean and comfortable Beautiful view and close to Pier. Vintage photos and storage locker in the basement were nice added touches.

I was on the 6 floor and was right under the club they have on the top floor. Fridays and Saturdays were rough nights for sleeping. Also this is an old building with two elevators. One was out of commission the entire time and the “working” one kept breaking down. I used the stairs a lot which didn’t bother me for the most part, but being on the 6 floor and just having a medical operation it became a little bit of a task.

The rooms, pool, lounge and location. Having stayed here when it was ShangtiLa I had low expectations especially based on some reviews but found it fabulous and beautiful hotel and location - love the pool and spa open till 10

Lack of breakfast restaurant - this is probably only thing but totally recommend Interstellar restaurant around the corner on broadway
