We really enjoyed our stay at Vanpila. In fact, better than expected because of some of the earlier reviewers who complained about the shower and the bed. This was the most comfortable bed I experienced in 7 weeks of travelling - it was neither to hard nor too soft, and I slept through the night. The shower was also absolutely fine, with warm water. It was also delightfully quiet at night. The host and his partner were lovely - full of tips of what to do and where to eat, and they always had time for us. Their super relaxed natures created a wonderful laid back and homely atmosphere throughout the house. In fact, after just three nights here I felt quite sad to say goodbye to them and to leave our lovely room. Lack of breakfast in the house wasn't an issue. There is a great coffee shop less than 5 minutes walk from the house and other breakfast options within close proximity. We will definitely return here if we are in Savannakhet.

I can't think of anything apart from perhaps some better quality local coffee in the room to start the day!

The bedroom was a really nice size with a comfortable bed and 2 pillows each. Quirky bathroom. Good location to get to the river and old town with a few decent coffee shops and restaurants. Within walking distance of bus station

The photos of downstairs are nothing like on website in fact very messy. Bins not emptied and table tops a bit dirty, however seating quite comfortable to sit and relax Booked 3 nights but 2 would have been OK as not a lot to do and charging $120 for a day trip

I’d read reviews about the property and in particular how the bathroom and toilet is styled with bamboo faucets, concrete walls and a ‘river stone’ corrugated floor. These features ‘sold me’ on the property as I’m so over showers that spray over toilet seats or floors that have five different tiles on them! But Vanpila also has nice old varnished floorboards and oversized comfortable beds plus plenty of bedroom space for a desk. No TV which isn’t required in any case. I also liked the half way proximity of Vanpila between the bus station and the old quarter of Savannakhet.

All was good. The young woman manager spoke little English but we easily communicated via google translate plus the owner spoke with me via WhatsApp once reassuring me that a power failure would only be temporary.

Good location 10 minute walk away from the Mekong river and the night market which starts at around 6pm. Friendly owners. Comfortable and rustic room with bed cozy bed, hot water shower and powerful, frigid AC.

There are not a lot of downsides to this place. If you are like me and find homestays a bit uncomfortable, what with living in another person's home and all, then you may have some dislike with that. But that is a personal issue and nothing against the property.

I don’t give such high reviews easily, but this is a little gem. On a quiet side street so no traffic noises, but still very close to anywhere you would want to be going in town. The hosts had the answer to any question: Recommendations for dinner? Best croissant in town? How to get from A to B? The wifi was also great. Complimentary drinking water - as much as you need - was nice. But the best thing was the beautiful house, tastefully decorated rooms with super comfortable bed, hosts and good atmosphere.

Just good to know: I had the triple room. It’s actually more of a huge double with room for a child or someone very humble to sleep in a cot or maybe a mattress that can be brought in. So not the perfect solution for three adults.

Charming wooden house. Charming owner who speaks excellent English. Very quiet area with everything you should need as a traveler, ATM, market and reasonable priced restaurants nearby. Transport - House/Bus station Recommend local E car booking service 25kkip instead of the local TukTuk asking 60-120Kkip.

Definitely the best guesthouse we had in southeastasia! Calm and quiet, comfy bed, tasteful and individual interior. Nico, the owner, his wife and daughter are very nice and have good and positive vibes. Nico had a lot of ideas and suggestions and said one phrase I will not forget “Lao is a slow motion country. If you don’t have much time, just see less places“. So did we, we stayed another night and made a tour to three lakes and the famous That Ing Hang stupa, using a motorbike, that Nico had organized. We will never forget, hopefully come back!

A nice place in a great location in the historic part of Savannakhet. The owner Nico is a very friendly and welcoming guy who gave me great information about nice places to eat and things to see and do in and around Savannakhet. The room is almost like a small apartment with an entry area, bathroom and a bedroom so there is a lot of space.

Vanpila had everything we were looking for—a comfortable room, a peaceful garden, and a friendly host. Nico was happy to share his recommendations, and we enjoyed our conversations with him. The Mekong is just a short walk away, and there are plenty of local eateries nearby, making it a convenient and enjoyable place to stay in Savannakhet.

Excellent, great WiFi very fast, spacious room, good bedding, well located very close to the historical quarter. ,The Franco Lao couple will help you for any of your requests,.they are very resourceful.they could pick you up at the airport or bus station, renting a vehicle They know a lot of unseen location where they can bring you there such as old temples with murals, monkey forest, birds life around a big lake..For the price it is incredible Highly recommended Catherine
