The location was great, a short walk from the centro histórico, in a very safe neighborhood. Other reviewers were maybe scared by some of the run down buildings nearby but there’s a police station literally 2 blocks away and everyone in the area was very friendly. The staff was fantastic and super acomodating, even getting us a fan when the room was stuffy. The cleaning lady was especially nice as well.

As I mentioned above, the room was a little stuffy, but fine with the fan. More importantly, I really think the hotel should provide some sort of coffee. Coffee makers in the rooms would be outstanding but even a vending machine in the lobby would be good, especially for Sunday mornings when a lot of coffee shops aren’t open yet.

The staff is super nice and bery helpful. We received complimentary water. The room itself and the bathroom really big (two shower heads in one shower) and clean. The room was cleaned even though we only stayed there for two nights. The bed was comfortable.

The biggest downside is the neighborhood. I would not advise it if you’re a solo female traveler. Right in front of the hotel is a very suspicious looking abandoned building where many people hang out (I suppose to take drugs and drink). It’s better not to walk around at night and simply get an Uber/inDrive. Sometimes they waved or tried talking to us. The wifi connection was not the greatest :(

I liked the location that is much quieter than the downtown historical part of Puebla: NO traffic noise at night. Some guests have said that the location is inconvenient, but there is very frequent public transport from downtown, if a guest doesn’t want to walk a couple of kilometres. To go to, and from, the downtown area, I found that the No.18 local bus is perfect: very frequent until late at night. To come TO the hotel from the city centre, the bus runs along Avenida 9 Oriente. As soon as it crosses Blvd Héroes, there is a stop, and another further along (just past Calle 12 Sur, where the hotel is). To go FROM the hotel, TO downtown, the No.18 bus runs along Avenida 11 Oriente (just a block away from the hotel). An advantage of the hotel's location is that it is in walking distance (about 15 minutes) of Mercado Municipal La Acocota. In my opinion (after staying 8 months in Puebla), that is the best market in Puebla, for buying fruit and vegetables - even fresh figs and raspberries. It's not a market where tourists go - although there are plenty of interesting things available for souvenirs - and the stall holders never cheat you: if you are buying 3 bananas and the price is 7 pesos, you'll get given 3 pesos change from 10 pesos. There is also an excellent coffee shop very close to the hotel. Search on Google Maps for Tarlets Coffee, and you'll see one branch that's just a couple of blocks away from the hotel. Finally, on the weekends, there is a terrific variety of stalls in the park just around the corner (to Avenida 7) from Hotel Escala.

I have marked down the lighting because, although the electric lighting is adequate - especially at night - there is very little daylight entering the room I was in. That is because the room opens to a roofed courtyard, where there is natural daylight but not enough to bring daylight into the room for (for example) reading or writing. I used to keep my door open, whenever I was in the room, and sit near the open door. However, there is a cafe at the front of the property that is mostly used only for breakfast, and there is good daylight there. So, with plenty of tables and chairs, in (and near) the cafe, that is a good space to read and write during the day.

My friend and I stayed at this accommodation for a couple of nights, and I must say it was a nice experience. The hotel consistently maintained good communication with us, ensuring that our needs were met and providing helpful information. Everything about the place was in order and exceptionally clean. The location worked perfectly for us, very close to the Historical Center of the Puebla. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay and highly recommend this accommodation to others.

The beds are ROCK hard, line most mexican beds were 15 years ago. My stay was February and the room was chilly and the nights COLD. I left because of the beds.

Staff were really helpful and friendly. The foyer is very impressive and the room was clean and large.

The room is very dark without much natural light. So we slept in a lot due to that. It also cold in the room maybe due to lack of exposure to sunlight.

The room was clean and spacious, and it had all the basics that one would expect from a hotel of this calibre. The bed was firm and comfortable. Water pressure was excellent and the water hot.

The location is excellent, being very close to the historical centre. However, that side of the thoroughfare is a old and in disrepair. The lack of pedestrians and oversight may leave some people feeling less secure.

Nice hotel just outside of the Centro Historico of Puebla. Hotel staff were great. There are lots of options for local Mexican cuisine like quesadillas, tortas, tacos, etc. within close proximity to the hotel. Enjoyable stay.

Not the most comfortable bed. Still managed to sleep, but an area where the hotel could improve.

Check-in was very pleasant due to Angelica, who speaks English very well. Although the neighborhood looks a little scary, don’t let that put you off: this is a well-run little gem of a hotel with clean rooms and a relaxed atmosphere for the budget traveller.

Wi-fi signal was very weak, both in our room and in the lobby/restaurant area, so they need some improvement here. If the neighborhood could cooperate in keeping the trash cleared away from the derelict building on the corner, it would go a long way towards making the place seem much more desirable.
