We have had a wonderful stay at the Murchison Lodge Such a nice warm Welkom Philip made us feel directly at home , this wooden house have a soft smelling of red cedar wood The bedroom the Tui, was very comfortable good bed and sheets nice shower and products to use my hair was very shiny after washing it Philip gave us lots of information for example where we can eat , he recommended the cow shed and it was very good. We have our meal with the other couple that stay also at Murchison lodge and have a great time and good food. When we came back Philip made us a fire and together we have a nice whisky as a nightcap on the comfortable couches. You can also use the kitchen to cook an evening meal and the grocery is nearby in the village. You can use everything in the house and order a list for what kind of breakfast you wanted and what time. The hospitality is high standard and the breakfast was really good with homemade things a fresh eggs from their one chicken’s. Nice little cat round the house and I liked the garden enjoy a coffee under the Lemontree. You can walk easily to the riverside and see the sun going under. It’s really a heavenly place to be special the taking care of Philip we felt comfortable and like home. So thank you very much Philip and Daphne. Ria and Kees from the Netherlands

Very helpful host, quiet location, superb quality establishment, bespoke breakfast, convenient parking, great furnishings, cozy well equipped living room.

My only complaints are as follows, and relate to my room only (Tui) The bed making is too tight: I had to get up and and yank the top sheet/blanket from the bottom of the bed because my feet were being squashed to the side. Consider using duvets/quilts. The cabling that runs underneath the bottom bedsheet into a 'device' situated under the pillow area of the bed. This was on both sides of the bed. I was unable to ascertain the nature of the devices as the lower bedsheet was incredibly tightly fitted but in any case it's weird and creepy and should be removed.

The lodge was in a rural setting away from passing traffic. Our room with balcony overlooked a small paddock with grazing sheep and was very spacious and comfortable. Our host Phillip made us a delicious breakfast including Jams from home grown berries and great home made bread. Phillip was great to chat to and has had an interesting life, and has become a valued volunteer in Murchison. We enjoyed a lamb roast from the only local pub which was well cooked and accompanied by five different vegetables which you crave when travelling.

There was nothing to not like.

Stayed overnight on the way through to Picton. Phillipe is a great host, very accommodating. Offered to help with bags upstairs, good dinner recommendation. Excellant breakfast with homemade jam/bread/free range eggs (checked requirements the evening before and accommodated gluten free, which was much appreciated). Very large, spotless room with beautiful view. Very peaceful. Thank you.

Bed furnished with electric blanket - no doubt useful in winter, but found sleeping on this uncomfortable in the mild summer weather. Would have asked for this to be removed if staying longer.

This was a wonderful place to stay in every way. Philippe was an excellent host and makes an amazing breakfast (enjoy the homemade bread and jams). The family run Lodge is situated beautifully in the countryside and you are able to explore down to the river. The rooms were super comfortable and the bath enormous. Communal areas with library and board games , and a nice selection of wines and spirits if you choose to stay in. Close by there are 3 restaurants for dinner. I recommend staying here, it was a shame we only had one night.

The bedroom was large with very comfortable beds. The bathroom was big with both a shower and an amazingly big bath. There was a communal lounge area for guests and dining area/kitchen. Philip lit the wood burning stove so we had a very cosy evening sitting in front of it. There was a very pretty outdoor seating area with the wisteria in full bloom and the garden was lovely. We had both breakfast and an evening meal prepared for us, both of which were excellent. Seemingly we stayed a few weeks ahead of the tourist season starting and we were the only guests there. It felt as if we were in a catered chalet with Philip and Daphne being the perfect hosts spoiling us. If I could score them 100/10 I would have done!! Such a lovely stay.

Absolutely nothing!

Hospitality; rustic homely log cabin feel with fire place; honesty box approach to available alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks; home-made breakfast by the host with an abundance touch; privacy respected and spacious rooms with very comfortable bed; tasteful furnishing with a ‘play station’ of board and card games to occupy on cold wet winter nights. This would always be our preferred stay in Murchison. Can’t wait to be back Philip and Daphne!

No towel warmers, no electric blankets

Surrounded by nature next to the Buller River stands this beautiful rustic lodge . it was very cosy sitting by the log fire in the evening after our walk around the property to the river's edge., On arrival in the late afternoon, we were greeted by our very welcoming host,Phillip. He cooked a wonderful homemade breakfast using their own fresh grown eggs. The house facilities included a full kitchen ,lounge and nearly everything you need. The linen was first class andt so too,the bathroom . Clearly Phillip and his wife ,Daphne ,both have an eye for detail. Even providing a complementary snack and drink. I could see us returning to stay as a retreat experience.

Nothing really as there is no need for a TV or A/C anyway.

The lodge was like being in a warm, comfortable home. Phillip was an excellent host & his knowledge of the area was very impressive . He prepared a delicious pasta dish for our dinner and the breakfast with home-made bread, perfect eggs & bacon plus fruit, toast & spreads was scrumptious. Comfortable beds & downy pillows provided us with a wonderful nights sleep. We can highly recommend the lodge as a perfect place to stay in Murchison. Thank you Phillip.

We enjoyed every aspect.

The house itself and decor was very charming, creating a very relaxing cottage like atmosphere. There was a large lounge room, with various outdoor spaces to relax. Specifically we liked that there were board games, odds and sods if you needed it; like sunscreen or activity advice etc. We liked the added small bar available to guests, while our host made a great effort accommodating my vegan requirements for breakfast.
