We very much enjoyed our stay at Owen River Tavern. Whilst in a remote area, we liked the peace of it. The owners Kim and John were wonderful and welcoming - plus they make an amazing Chinese dinner! Highly recommended! Thank you Kim and John for being so hospitable. We will be back to stay again next time we’re in the South Island.

It was a spacey room, well stocked with tea, coffee, soaps etc. Big, comfortable bed. Nice views from the front door. We were greeted by a Weka bird, who seemed comfortable with the guests. Nice walk to the rover, through the campsite. Tavern was nice and friendly, and the beer was good.

Kitchen sponge provided was old and dirty. It just needed the sponge replacing.

A very pretty place with a short walk to a stream and camping area at the rear of the property. We had a very good meal in the tavern and a refreshing apple cider. The staff were friendly and accommodating and we were able to park very close to our room. It's very comfortable and clean.

Nothing to dislike. It's just a little dated.

This little place is a gem. It's been rated honestly as the rooms were adequately comfortable. The Tavern is 96 years old, a historic kiwi treasure situated in a beautiful spot. Kim the owner and her husband cook all the meals which were really delicious. If you want to experience an old nz pub then give this place a visit. It's close to great walks, fishing and cycle trails.

Lovely location en route to Nelson from Murchison. On site restaurant and bar...Chinese meal was very good. Comfy bed with decent shower. Quiet spot with nearby walking.

Rooms a little cramped...with kitchenette area with kettle /microwave /TV etc not very practical in space available Bathroom a bit dated and in need of some repair.

Fantastic, quiet location in the middle of nowhere. Everything was great, the service the food and the hosts were very friendly. Great little spot to pull up and break the drive. You could hear the river below running, which was very peaceful.

We love the location….all by itself with a unit view of the nz bush across Owen River, hills covered with bush ,the sound of the water, native birds etc. The hotel is right next door with great meals and drinks…no other neighbours. The units are comfortable with outdoor chairs…great value for money. Hostess was very helpful.

Great tavern and the motel style accomodation was beyond expectations looking out to the view . The food was home cooked Chinese ( but local recipes were available ) , fresh and flavoursome . Top place to stay , thanks John

Clean, recently refurbished unit. Very quiet looking out over the river and bush. Owner very nice, and an excellent pub dinner in the evening. Large comfortable bed with choice of pillow thicknesses

Shower enclosure looked to be in the middle of refurbishment but nevertheless perfectly useable.

Nice room Quiet Nearby nature. Access to cornucopia of booze

Sadness & a tinge of inconsolable apathy from the proprietor. Like he bought a lemon. Ridiculous tavern prices (LOL) No plates & things. Minor stuff.
