We stayed at Wavealokam Beach Retreat in Edava, Varkala, for 6 days and 5 nights with our family and our golden retriever, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable trips we have had. From the moment we arrived, the warmth of the hosts, Ms. Amanpreet Kaur (co-founder along with actor Mr. Sudev Nair) and their team, made us feel completely at home. Aman is a wonderful host - kind, thoughtful, and empathetic. She even went out of her way to help us by taking care of our pet for an entire day while we visited the Padmanabhaswamy Temple and Jatayu Earth Centre, which don’t allow pets. That gesture alone speaks volumes about her hospitality. The retreat is not just welcoming, but also spotlessly maintained. From fresh linens to sparkling clean washrooms, everything reflected the team’s care and attention to detail. It’s a place where you instantly feel comfortable and relaxed. Every morning began with a healthy, home-style breakfast - fresh fruits, original juices, and wholesome cooking that felt both light and satisfying. The retreat is just a short walk from the beach, has convenient car parking, and gives you the perfect balance of comfort, nature, and homeliness. What made the stay truly special wasn’t just the location or the amenities - it was the people. Aman, Sudev, their adorable pets Nero and Ishtu, and the ever-smiling guest manager Anandhu ensured we didn’t just have a stay, but an experience filled with warmth, care, and memories to cherish. We gave them the estimated time of arrival and was given a warm welcome by the staff looking after the property, and a cool room so it wasn’t muggy or too stuffy! They asked if we’d eaten and provided us with a delivery website so that we could fill our tummies before snoozing for the evening! The bed and bathroom were clean, with comfy bedding and running hot water for a shower after travelling a good distance from Kottayam. The staff were helpful in providing kitchen utensils and allowing us to borrow an adapter, since we’d forgotten to buy ourselves a universal plug! As well as helping with public transport queries for our long trip. The guard was friendly, offering his umbrella when we arrived one of the evenings in the pouring rain. The beach was not too far from the homestay, with surrounding resorts that provided good food and decent Ayurvedic treatments. It was the perfect start to our adventure around Kerala! ✨

The rooms are very pretty - best room and bathroom we had in India. The hosts and staff are really nice. They help you with everything you need. There is a good breakfast with fruit salad, juice, curry & omlette available. The location is also quite nice. From the homestay it just takes a two minute walk to Edava Beach (not crowded and clean). It is possible to rent Scooters if you want to go to Varkala - round about 10min ride (we rented one for the whole week and needed it everyday to go out for dinner and coffee or to go to Varkala).

Wave a Lokam is Amazing, Writing this review feels essential because this stay was genuinely special. From the moment I arrived, I found a safe, welcoming space that felt like home, thanks to the hosts’ warmth and genuine care. I stayed for two days and could feel the love they pour into every detail. They even have two adopted pets who traveled from Mumbai, and they are the sweetest, most well-behaved companions. You hardly notice they’re there – just calm, quiet, and adorable. The authentic kerala food is top-notch prepared at the stay by wonderful women team, with such care that every meal felt nourishing and comforting - Sabby thank you for preparing Maharashtra dish for us:) If you’re looking for a peaceful, uncrowded place to unwind, this is the one. Every room is beautifully designed, with handpicked pieces that show the hosts’ dedication and taste. Wavelokam is a cozy budget stay for couples with very well designed and neatly maintained rooms. Location is just 200m walk away from Yedava beach and feels secluded yet safe. Owner is chill, very friendly and a humble person who's eveready to greet and help you. A special mention to our host Saafir, who was so so helpful through out stay, not just at wavelokam but our entire trip in Varakala, a special shoutout to him.

Nothing much to dislike

It was clean and comfortable and the breakfast served at 9am. The staff are lovely and they have two lovely dogs - Stu and Nero. The bed is comfortable and the AC and fan work well.

Its location to the restaurants and cafes is a little far. However they were helpful in arranging transport and hiring a scooter - although make sure to confirm the price and fuel expectation prior as it is an external company you’re hiring from.

It's a small and new property. Rooms were of comfortable size, with neat and clean bed and bathroom. There was no view from the hotel, but a clean, crowdless beach is just a couple of minutes of walk away. I also booked a surfing lesson. Kartik (surfing trainer) was very patient in teaching and it was an amazing experience. The breakfast served was healthy, clean and tasty. Facility manager was really helpful and prompt is responses. It was an amazing experience staying here.
