For the remote location and limitations available to the entire community, our stay at the Churchill Hotel was really good. From the time the owner, John, collected us at the airport, then actually took the time to drive us around for a short tour of the town, before dropping us at the hotel, through to our late departure, we were treated like valued guests. Meals were lovely, and they went out of their way to ensure as a person with coeliac disease, I was taken care of (even provided a separate toaster especially for me)

On our first evening's stay, and also very occasionally after that, the cigarette smoke from one of the other guests entered into our room. We needed to leave the fan on to keep fresh air circulating and remove to smoke and stuffiness. But at -20+° pretty-well all the time, there wasn't really another option of opening a window.

Review for Churchill Hotel and Churchill, MB This was a most amazing trip in early August 2024. We had no idea what to expect and fell in love with Churchill. There were 4 of us, my husband, myself, and young adult son and his wife. We rented an SUV and drove up to Thompson, MB and parked at the Thompson airport. We then took Via Rail train from Thompson to Churchill, which was a 16-hour ride. It was a wonderful way to see the landscape changing right before our eyes. We were met with a van from the Churchill Hotel when we arrived at the Churchill train station. Our driver and guide took us around the town of Churchill and briefly showed us some main sights. Our main goal of this trip was to see the beluga whales. When we arrived at the hotel, we were too early to check into our rooms, so we could leave our luggage in a common room. We rented a truck from John the owner of the Hotel and the Tundra Rental company. He gave us a map upon which he showed us some areas we could explore. We quickly changed and took off with the truck for hours taking in as much as we could before we had to check in. This truck rental allowed us to explore all of what Churchill and the surrounding tundra has to offer. The rooms were spacious and clean. Ours had two double beds and a good-sized bathroom. We were able to crank open the window for some fresh air. The fridge held some of our lunch meat, bread, veggies, and drinks. In the hallway there was a microwave and a toaster that we could use. There may have been other accommodations in town with more deluxe features, but honestly the Churchill hotel had everything we needed, it was convenient, affordable, and the people were great. We would book here again, hopefully during polar bear season. (Make no mistake, there are polar bears around, they are just more plentiful in September, October). Thank you John for your hospitality. There were times when it was challenging to get in touch with someone at the hotel. However, when we did, all our questions were answered.

This motel is what I expected. Churchill is not a place where I expected or wanted luxury. It was a simple, functional, clean room. My cousin had a room with one bed and it had a very comfy chair. Hot water was fine, the little toiletries were helpful and honestly more than I had expected for a basic motel. Many buildings in Churchill are somewhat rustic. The hosts are extremely nice and helpful, and they provide shuttle service for the train station (which we could have managed without, but it was nice) and it was especially helpful for the airport. They were also kind enough to let us keep one room (of four) well past check out time where we could hang around until out flight. The food was good and reasonably priced. It's a small town, the hotel really isn't far from the train station. Our water tours office and pickup were right across the street. Our land tour guide picked us up at the hotel. Churchill seems to go out of its way to make it all convenient.

The exterior door was loud and jarring every time it slammed, which it always did. The TV had very limited reception, but again, that's not what I went to Churchill for. Even with that, I still managed to see a couple of good movies.

We were so pleased with Churchill Hotel, mostly because of the staff there. We got stuck in town by a canceled flight during a busy tourist time for them & Chris drove us back from the airport, found room for us in the hotel and food there since the weather was minus 20 with a strong wind. Then he drove us back to the airport the next day and waited to be sure the plane was going. I left my cellphone in his car and they brought it all the way to the airport from town for me. So generous and thoughtful!

Breakfast was not available. The location is central.

The housekeeper cum front desk receptionist (Tammie) was not honest. She lied a few times about the availability of facilities in the hotel. She was not available at the front desk. The only way to communicate with her was to phone her. Initially, we had to call her husband who would pass on the message to her. Later, she reluctantly gave us her number. Awkward situation!!

Wonderful breakfast, completely unexpected to have a full breakfast every morning. Microwave down the hall was great, ice maker always full. Staff was always pleasant and always on top of things.

Could have used a few more TV channels. Discovery channel showed a fixed screen with audio only. At lease the normal Canadian channels, CBC, CITY TV were there, no CTV or Global.

Breakfast was good. Did good "over medium" eggs & unseasoned potatoes which we prefer. Dinner menu had lots of choices. Carol & Tammy took good care of us. We were picked up & dropped off at the train station. Also we were allowed an early check-in & a delayed check-out to match thain schedule.

I was able to check out the other hotels during my stay and hands down I’ll stay at Churchill Hotel again. It’s clean, comfortable, convenient, reasonably priced, and they have a good breakfast (eggs, pancakes, bacon, oatmeal, muffins, cereal, juices, milk, coffee) that’s included. Our train got in an hour and a half early and Koral was there to pick us up and John got all of us in our rooms early, which was great. The first thing you want to do when you get off the train is take a shower! Haha! It’s in a good location, but really you can get to anywhere in Churchill in 10 minutes or less. For example, when we left our room to go wade in the Hudson Bay (so many beluga whales!) it was approximately 10 minutes and you’re going from one side of town to the other. Just a word of caution, pay attention and don’t go in the areas that have danger signs posted. We did see a mama polar bear and her cub (this was bear #3 & #4) walking along the shoreline- it was spectacular but we felt safe because we didn’t go hike among the rocks- I’m just saying the signs are there for a reason. John is a Churchillian (born & raised) and Koral has resided in Churchill for 25 yrs- I wish I had more time there to pick her brain, she has traveled the world. Koral was so informative, I would HIGHLY recommend to take her tour also- she really takes her time and explains everything from the history of Churchill to the fauna that grows there. The tour generally takes 4-4.5 hrs, we were out for 5 hours because we saw a mama polar bear and her cub! I got to check so many things off my list from going on that tour (Miss Piggy, Ithaca, Science Center, polar bear holding facility, and ultimately getting to see two polar bears!)

Nothing, everything was great! Being a teacher, however I always feel like I should make helpful suggestions, a hot tub perhaps? Ha!

The location was great as it was near the train station and right across the street from 3 of our tours. The fourth tour was nearby down the street. Most of the restaurants were also very nearby. The cost of the room was reasonable. Our room faced the back of the hotel which was a quieter location than a street-facing room. We would come back to this hotel next time.

We arrived early by train and were accommodated for an early check-in. The staff were very friendly and helpful with all needs. The breakfast was tasty and affordable. We rented a car and had a discounted rate. We were also accommodated for a late check-in. We will definitely stay here again!
