Everything was excellent! The food was top notch, the service was brilliant, rooms were warm and comfy AND Stanley the one eyed white cat was McAwesome! A very unassuming establishment that just do everything well! Locals obviously love the place as well as the out of towners. The brekkie was definately one of the best continentals we've had in a long time - excellent for those doing the rail trail that's for sure :). We were really made to feel like we were staying at someone's home rather than a hotel - well done to Mark and his awesome crew - we'll defo be back to WaiPIEata! When you go there try one of their famous pies!!

An excellent stay.. warm welcoming host. Clean tidy and cosy warm rooms and bathrooms. TV room well set up with couches, fireplace, heat pump, games and TV including Netflix. Breakfast was a complete surprise and hugely welcomed… all layed out for us on the table late at night for us the next morning to help ourselves to. Dinner in the bar was superb.. can highly recommend the homemade pies.. they are full of meat and absolutely delicious.. served with salad and fries. Great value and would stay again here in a heartbeat
Everything was superb

Beautiful setting - the hotel itself is that cosy, classic historic New Zealand pub vibe that makes it feel like you are somewhere really special & out in the middle of nowhere pretty much - private lounge that the sun streamed into - comfy beds - AMAZING water pressure!! Free wifi which is not as common as you would think at a lot of NZ hotels/motels! Very friendly & attentive staff. An extensive menu with super tasty food. The place was kept really warm because the overnight low got to -9°c on the first night but you wouldn’t have known & the days were sunny! Beds have electric blankets. The Rustic Room I stayed in had a skylight for stargazing while you lay in bed. This room is set behind the hotel itself with a private entrance. Really great continental breakfast available.. hearty bread, good range of cereals, locally made honey, fruit, yoghurts, juice/teas/hot choc/coffee/plunger coffee - you can also wait till 10am to order generously sized cooked breakfasts too if you want. Exceptional value overall - I would definitely look at booking the whole place out for accommodation for special events & the outdoor facilities are really great when it is warmer for al fresco dining and activities. The Otago Central Rail Trail is right there too for biking and walks. I cannot wait to stay again!! :) :)

Very warm welcoming atmosphere, homely and comfortable. All areas are very warm during winter, heaters are available and were already switched on when I arrived. Exceptional food at the bar and restaurant. I can say that I had the best home made pie at the Waipiata Country Hotel - where else would you get a Lamb Shank Pie for a good price. Just fantastic!
Not much to add, just once a guest noise occurred on one of the nights around midnight. This is out of the control of the hotel and they have made sure my stay is as expected.

Room is very warm and equipped with a really good heater. In fact, we had to turn the heater off as it got a bit too warm (while it's still icy outside). Nice shower and good fragrance soap. Bed is very comfy. Very generous breakfast options, good quality as well. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. And the meal from the restaurant is really impressive!
Our room in particular can be a bit loud due to location, but it did get quiet closer to 10 pm. The shower floor is very slippery I almost fell. Maybe a non-slip mat can be placed on the shower floor.

Value for money. Cosy bar, which seemed to be the hub of the Maniototo. Good value meal. Comfy room, clean and tidy. Lots of character. Good breakfast.
We were OK, but I guess some of the rooms would get noise from the bar. Suggest a trolley in the breakfast room for dirty dishes - it got a bit messy with three groups all at the same time.

I was really happy to help myself. Everything was provided for my use and was sufficient. Really lovely to talk to people on the Rail Trail. Breakfast room was well located for my needs.
I did call back later in the day and thought I could get a coffee and while there were other customers around I could not find anyone around to attend to my needs so I left and went into Ranfurly.

The Hotel is in a wonderful remote rural location and provided a true country pub experiance with great value food, extensive range of beers and drinks, lovely breakfast and quiet nights sleep. The free washer and dryer was helpful after our run and for rail trail cyclists.
Nothing comes to mind

Surprisingly big menu with good food and lots of folks visiting, at least the night we spent here. Our room was separate from the pub/restaurant part, so very quiet. We only heard birds. Also very friendly staff and folk in general.
Only minor downside I can think of is we had a ceiling window without curtain. So if you cannot sleep in a light room, that might be tricky. We slept well though.
