Juhachiro was extraordinary! I don't think I knew what to expect when I booked and the overwhelming welcome I received on arrival made me a little nervous. I'm not used to staying at hotels anywhere near this nice! The staff were all fantastic, very kind, and even helped me with some travel planning out of what felt like genuine concern (due to the weather). The breakfast (buffet) was quite likely the best I've had in Japan. The room itself was large, very comfortable, and smelled absolutely amazing (fresh tatami). The onsens baths (two each indoor and outdoor) were so very good; quiet at the time was there and beautiful. I especially loved the outdoor ones after the snow.

Only one thing I would have changed: Juhachiro was rather formal for me, just not my style, but I expect this comes with the 4-stars.

Old world charm, in a charming area/street. There’s a lovely bakery a stone throw away, I would recommend a room only rate. Many high quality restaurants within a 5 min walking radius and nice wagashi shops for an afternoon cuppa. The staff were sweet and professional.

The breakfast banquet hall was such a disconnect with the rest of the property. The room and spa were charming and felt private but the banquet hall was like whoa 200 people dining in a ballroom. Very jarring change in ambience.

The onsen included in our room was amazing!!!

Breakfast was acceptable, but not great. Expected better.

Breakfast buffet lots of choice. Included kaiseki dinner was very good with local fish and beef. Staff very very friendly and helpful, some with better english than others but language did not matter because they were all so nice and really helped.

nothing really. it was not the cheapest place but then onsens are normally a treat for oneself and with that sort of accommodation and food it will not be, and should not be a 'bargain'

Location and hotel were great, especially the hot onsen bath on balcony - staff were lovely and helpful. River side amazing even tho we missed cormorant fishing season. Excellent independent little restaurant at end of high street .

No room for dinner. No shuttle bus to station other than at 09:30am only.

This is the best hotels i stay throughout my 12 days trips to central Japan. the staffs throughout are consistently friendly and helpful, this has become unusual now due to the high influx of tourists and many staffs at the hotel are fatiq and less than usual friendly and helpful.

Interesting old school hotel in the Japanese style with great onson. The public baths are amazing. Well worth a visit. Get a room with a bath overlooking the river if you can.

The breakfast could have been better.

I really love the service. From the moment I entered Juhachiro, the attendant insisted on taking my luggage despite it being heavy. She has properly walked through all the different parts of the room as well. The onset was amazing, both 1F and 2F.

Nice experience in a high-end traditional Japanese hotel. We were the only western tourists. Very nice onsen with amazing "muddy bath". Delicious meals, very good buffet breakfast.

Loved the bath on the balcony, the Onsen was absolutely spectacular set in the garden. Great room with view and tea, drinks all day. Lovely breakfast. Such a good location close to cormorant fishing and Gifu Castle.
