To be honest, we didn't find the food at the facilities restaurant very good. Upon our return to wait for the ferry to come back to NS, we ate at Pizza Delight. Other than that, the stay was good.
We didn't like the food at the restaurant. We ate breakfast there on our first day of vacation and everything tasted tinny and tainted, like the oil for the fryer was old and the grill hadn't been cleaned properly. I'm sure sure the kitchen is fine but we did not enjoy the experience and on our way back decided to eat at Pizza Delight rather than the restaurant.

The location was very good. It was not far from the ferry terminal and very close to a Tim Horton's. They have a good on-site restaurant which opens for breakfast at 7:00 a.m. The room size was OK and had a comfortable chair with a standing lamp next to it for reading. The room and bathroom were quite clean and the bed was very comfortable. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
We were booked into a room on the 2nd floor and it was a bit of a struggle getting everything up the stairs, although one of the front desk staff did give us a hand, for which I am grateful. As a result, I requested a ground floor room for our subsequent stay on July 30.

Location is excellent for arriving/departing by ferry. Room is comfortable but could use a bit more modernization (carpets, furniture, appliances). Bed was fresh and linens were spotless. Bathroom was clean and modern though, and the shower was probably best ever in moderate hotel/motel. Better quality towels would be a plus. Our room faced the front so the view was nice. Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful….only had a dessert from the restaurant, but it was superb. Recommended stay if you are traveling for business, alone or as a couple.
Our mini fridge was turned off and it had leaked…the carpet surrounding the fridge was bit soaked. The towels were on the small side and somewhat scratchy. Some furniture and fixtures of the room could be modernized, but overall we were pleased with our stay.

Location was perfect for anyone taking the Sydney-PAB ferry (in either direction). Staff was friendly and the room was clean and comfortable.
I had minor issue with the hot water supply when taking a shower but that's likely because many guests were doing the same as many of us had recently arrived on the ferry. I'm sure it would have been fine at a different time.

We got off the ferry at night and this hotel was right there and easy to find. Pleasant staff and a place with some character (not generic hotel), it was just what we needed for a quick overnight before heading off on our adventure.
Unfortunately the restaurant was closed when we were there. But it was off season, so to be expected that the schedule would be changing. Most of the restaurants in town seemed to be operating with limited hours so check out where to eat ahead of time.

Everything was so great except the stairs. They are getting an elevator.
No grab bars to get in and out of shower/tub. At check out we mentioned it and she said that they have suction cup ones at reception but we were not made aware of this. All good other than that!

Close access to ferry. Had a restaurant in the hotel, dessert was awesome. Came back a few days later just for dessert but restaurant closed on Sunday. Most staff were pleasant.
The layout of the room could be improved. Move furniture so it is more accomodating.

Breakfast Special was $5 per person and WELL worth it! Only suggestion would be offer a drink for kids who don’t drink tea or coffee.
It did smell “old” “stuffy”? Not sure, but we opened the windows.

I have nothing but praise for the staff at Hotel Port Aux Basques! Hurricane Lee forced a last-minute cancellation and re-booking of our ferry crossing and Hotel Port Aux Basques graciously allowed us to modify our booking due to the inclement weather. I am also unable to provide any further evaluation due to the changes .

We have stayed there several times and always find it comfortable and cozy.
The restaurant staff was wonderful but there were no vegan or even vegetarian dishes. This is not uncommon in Newfoundland but I mention it because it will help hotels think about adding to their food menus.
