The service friendliness of all personnel

Location was perfect and the architecture/design of the hotel was wonderful. Poppinjays was a great restaurant with exceptional service combined with a splendid vista and terrace.

After forty years am recently retired, and starting to enjoy some real “us” time – my partner and I traveling 130+ days this year. On our journeys, The Murray is absolutely stand out and everything you would expect of a five star hotel. Conveniently located, a relaxed seven minute walk to Pacific Place and five minutes to Central. The Murray is much better value than other nearby, and dated five star properties.

Some attention to detail needed by management – poor/nonexistent English amongst bellhops and a number of restaurant waiters. Staff uniforms in the Garden Lounge and Popinjays faded and shabby. Footwear it seems a casual free-for-all.

Room was black coloured and hard to find things. Too complicated lighting system.

Pros - cleanliness - modern facilities - location, 5 min walking from the busy Central - soundproofing of the room!! - larger size of room vs. HK standards - impeccable services with useful doormen/concierge - spacious/welcoming lobby - curtain blackout for max sleep comfort - Japanese-style toilet Areas of improvement - value for money of F&B - gym equipment are limited (although in perfect condition!) - 1st grocery/pharma shop in 4min walking distance (if one wants to be pedantic) - bed mattress a bit stiff (for my liking)

The heritage

The shower and bathtub location. Not enough hangers or hooks to hang clothes. Whole floor is wet if one takes shower.

The beds were dreamy, showers were ideal, and the beauty products were really great. The best part after coming home from each day/night in the rain or air conditioning, was the warm toilet. haha The towels were in mint condition. The room temperature was fast to adjust also. Ideal comfort. The breakfast selection was delightful. The chef offered to make me gluten free bread without a hesitation - and was wonderful! Staff was wonderful, offering little tricks and tips on everything from getting around the city, to also finding the better price for breakfast.

Unfortunately the umbrella in the room was for the sun and not the rain, so funnily enough we were partially wet, but it was so nice to walk in the rain too with all the humidity. The bathrobes are a bit worn out and strings hanging. Didn't like that the avocado toast for breakfast had barely any avocado on it (layer was too thin that we ordered extra avocado) and had cheese, or cream cheese, on it..and that's all we tasted. Definitely remove that cheese layer and just make a chunky layer or mashed avocado.

I liked the very personal service upon check-in and room orientation by the front desk, even though I arrived very early. I liked the size of the room (and the heated toilet seat). I liked that the staff remembers the names and faces of their guests, anticipating their needs (like umbrellas for the change in weather), making us feel at home. I would rate this hotel among the very best worldwide.

If I were to knit-pick, the only thing I would change is the artificial plants by the lap pool.

Very good breakfast Helpful staff at reception provided us with a courtesy room to have a business Zoom meeting at 4:00am (so that we did not have to all wake up!)

NO views Outside seating areas have views on the highways... You can hear the ding-ding noise from the elevator (even after they changed my room!) Kind of difficult to access the hotel walking, from public transport Long to find a cab (when it rained)
