The host Karesansui was super nice (and funny) and made our experience in Shangri-La the highlight of our Yunnan trip, which really exceeded our expectations. She was very responsive from the start and picked us up personally from the train station when we arrived. She recommended things to do/eat and brought us to Napahai after we left Songzanlin Monastery, even though it wasn't originally in our itinerary. We hadn't planned to go as we thought it wasn't worth a trip, but it turned out to be such a beautiful place and a good recommendation from her. She also helped us to save costs where possible, especially at Balagezong. The breakfasts her mum prepared were really filling, and we tried both the Chinese and Western.

Apparently, she runs tours from Kunming to Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-La, and even Lhasa. We didn't get to do this with her, but we would recommend her to our family and friends who might prefer to go with a guide in Yunnan/Tibet.

Location was great- in the middle of Shangri-la old town, yet away from the noise. Room was well equipped (though could do with more chairs in room), the heater in room was a great saviour especially during winter! Breakfast was also provided (comes in a set, either chinese or what western, depending on the day's menu). Lady boss was also friendly and responsive to our queries, and also arranged our hiking tour and transport to tiger leaping gorge!

Address on website could be more accurate - couldn't find the place using the address stated on site, had to ask around to locate the hotel.

The host picked us up at a very late notice and suggested an itinerary for our very short stay. Turns out to be one of the nicest attractions we went to. The 2hour drive to balagezong flew past with great conversation with the host who personally drove us there. The decor and design of the hotel was the nicest among all the accommodations that we stayed in journey. Did I mention heated floors? The heated floors was a lifesaver in the cold weather.

The decor is soothing and immediately relaxing. Invokes Japanese Zen and minimalist vibes.

This is the perfect location to explore the old town of Shangri-La. You can get away from the hustle and bustle yet walk to the town square in less than 5 mins and enjoy the traditional folk dances in the evening. The mother and daughter pair who run the hotel are warm, friendly and ever ready to provide tips and advice on the areas to visit.

The room was large, clean and modern. The location was very convenient and we could easily explore the old town. The service was great. The staff were very friendly and the hotel offered free pick up from the train station. We had to leave early on one morning and the manager asked if we wanted to have breakfast before the standard hours. Great value for money.

Lovely boutique hotel in a perfect location. Modern zen-designed interior and comfortable rooms with everything you need. Heated floor and beds are especially appreciated! Outstanding staff, made us feel like home, recommended restaurants, arranged our tours and gave us an insight to Tibetan lifestyle and culture which we would never have been able to get on our own. Highly recommended!

It’s like we were living in an authentic hut. Our accommodation is very spacious with terrace overlooking the temple and mountains and the natural light just comes in from the roof window. We stayed in a lot. The owner is hospitable, she arranged our tour to the tiger leaping gorge and the Potatso National Park. She even cooked us a sumptuous meal.

The roof during the night is not so quiet.

The setting and style alone was very very serene and a nice fresh breath of air from the usual. It's decorated very tastefully and neutral palate of natural wood, white and greyish tones. Bedding and rooms were comfortable and the electric blanket and heating was a nice touch of luxury in the cold! The family running the place were very friendly and the breakfast was so filling and exceptional! They can help with translating, arranging tours and travel for you. There was a very very friendly and playful puppy which was a lab I believe! Location wise it's very close to the old town only about 4mins to the entrance and into a large town square with dancing and music 7pm onwards! Its a perfect location as the roads are very quiet and just 2 blocks away there's a nice lady with a friendly dog that runs a yoga class and has eco friendly soap, beauty and relaxing products called de utpala I believe. The rooms was nicely spaced apart and really felt like an intimate resort which was amazing. The only downside was the space was really big but it wasn't utilised very well as the bathroom was quite small and the walls of the bathroom was short with a perfectly large cut circle by the toilet and filled with logs for decor purposes. In practice it looks amazing but practically isn't so great for privacy and separating sounds and space to move around.

Location wise is inside the Shangrila Oldtown. All within walking distance. Vehicle cannot go straight into the front of the property, but just walk 2 min from the dropoff point can reach the hotel. The design of the hotel is current and up to date. Rooms is comfortable and spacious. The owner is very friendly and generous, can check with her for tour around Shangrila. She is very helpful. Breakfast is provided, they provide some noodles.

Good location, a short walk away from the ancient town centre. Distance is just right, so there is peace and quiet. Modern Asian-Zen inspired interior design, which is very pleasing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They gave Chinese mooncakes as we stayed during Mid Autumn holiday week. The free breakfast was nice but they did serve the same over the 3 days we were there.
