The hotel may be old school in build and look but the staff were exceptional. They went out of their way to assist in booking an excellent yakiniku dinner for us and even printed out instructions in English to ensure we found our way there and could order easily. They called the restaurant which was not available for reservations online and we had a great time there.

I'm staying here mainly for its Onsen and seeing foxes! Fox fam is literally next door, but there's no direct pathway, so you have to walk around 1km across the river twice. The hotel has shuttle service to their parking lot across the river, but not to the fox farm. When I was staying there, the shuttle has no passenger, so they offered to take us to fox farm :). Which is a great help, because the path to fox farm was a little uphill. Dinner and Breakfast was served with buffet style, there are a lot of options. The taste is not bad, but cannot compare to Ryoukan style Breakfast/Dinner that is served on table.

The neighborhood has very little bus service, so you have to walk everywhere. It's a small tourism place, everything is reachable by walking. Bus from Asahikawa or Kitami runs only 3 times a day, and it require reservation in Japanese. Taxi is not an option, since it's too far away from either Asahikawa or Kitami. There's JR bus that goes to Rubeshibe, which is a walking distance to this property, but it takes longer time than the bus, because the rail goes around other towns first. (also when I travel there, the JR train service was closed due to landslide). It's quite challenging for foreigner to go there. The hotel also doesn't sell lunch. It is practically dead during the day! No onsen, no restaurant, no souvenir shop. I went there on weekend, the neighborhood also all closed. I walked from town center to hotel, hoped to eat lunch there, because my next bus will stop near the hotel. But they have nothing, not even a cracker at souvenir shop, so I had to walk back to town center for food.
