The staff here was superb! They went out of their way to accommodate us when we made a transportation error — not only coming to pick us up at Nagano Station but also holding dinner for us despite our very late arrival. This was the best and kindest customer service we have ever received. Once there, we were impressed by the incredible meals (both dinner and breakfast)! Impeccable detail, delicious flavor, beautiful presentation and a wonderful variety of local foods. This was one of our favorite meals ever (and we have eaten in some special places). After dinner we were able to enjoy a private onsen — one for my husband and me, one for the three teenagers. Everything about Fukeikan made me want to come back again, and I hope I don’t have to wait too long to do so.

Nothing!

The little village of Yamada Onsen is such a magical place. We were there in mid February and it was a snowy wonderland. The breakfast spread at the hotel was epic. So much food. In fact, I wish there was a way to save some for lunch :) The owners and staff are so kind and helpful. We really loved our time in the private tubs, roaming the halls of this sprawling property, lounging in the lobby with fireplace and gorgeous landscape right out the windows. Thank you for the exquisite dinners and the small spread of tea available at all hours. There is almost no other food in this village so be prepared to eat all your meals here. The shuttle only come and goes from the hotel twice a day to and from Obuse Station (9AM & 3PM.) We look forward to returning someday...

Fukeikan was our favourite part of our Japan trip. We were lucky to arrive in time for some snow which we love and don't get in the UK. The room was spacious with a big window overlooking the snowy mountains and frozen waterfall. The futons were cuz and warm, we slept so well. We loved the little confectionery treats that greeted us (we bought more in the downstairs shop) and the tea that was available was delicious. We loved hanging out in the lobby by the fire place, looking at the snow and using the stamps. The private onsen baths were great! The temperature was perfect, especially during snow fall, it was really relaxing, I tried my best to book as soon as it was possible (ofcourse following the rules). The food - I left it for the end on purpose - that was an experience. So glad we paid extra to have our breakfast and dinner in Fukeikan it was just something else! I also wanted to mention Kazia san and Yushi san who were always very helpful and kind. They showed care and worry when they heard that I'm not well. I really appreicate the care and service that Fukeikan provided for me and my husband. We will definitely come back when we visit Japan again!

We didn't know that the kitchen closes early for the lunch, it could be helpful to notify the guests about the closing time of the kitchen. (We ate manju and apples - delicious, so we're not counting it as a minus anyway)!

This was our fourth trip to japan and staying here has to be one of our favourite experiences. The hotel backs onto the mountains and offers some amazing views from the lobby, rooms, and open air baths. The open air baths were magical during the snow and we would 100% return to experience them again. Breakfast was also equally amazing, and the hotel were really accommodating and adjusted my breakfast to be vegetarian. The staff went above and beyond, even helping to clear snow off our rental car when we left in the morning. Some people who have reviewed have said that the hotel is a little dated but I felt that this added to the charm and is part of the traditional ryokan experience.

The snowy mountain view was just amazing. The private onsen was hot but having a dip in the cold winter with the amazing outdoor view was heavenly, there were two private onsens that you can book at the counter. I had the best kaiseki dinner here, the chef went all out on my second night on each dish. they were as beautifully done as they were delicious. They catered really well to my dietary needs which I have requested before coming. There is a coffee machine at the lobby where you can enjoy a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The room is comfortable, the heater warmed up the room just fine. There is a new cafe nearby the ryokan where I had a good cup of coffee, lunch and cake afterwards. The staff was wonderful and you can feel the warmth and their sincerity as they tried really hard to communicate with me and make sure I am comfortable despite the language barrier.

Nothing, it was perfect

Lovely japanese inn, we were welcome by the lovely Yushisaito, spoke really good english which was a bonus. All staff are very friendly and the owner/landloard gave me a bag of some japanese snacks because I liked them and asked where can I buy them from. Both the inside onsen and the private onsens were so lovelyyy even with the strong sulphur smell. Dinner and breakfast were amazing. This was a true japanese traditional experience. Highly recommend.

The room is spacious with the amazing mountainous view outside. I especially like that you can place your pc on the windowsill and work there (instead of the low table for those not good with Japanese sitting style). The facility has everything it needs as a Ryokan like a good relaxing lounge after enjoying the onsen with milk and other drinks. Like other ryokans in Takayama, you can visit some other onsens on the street if you have an extended stay.

Maybe personal thoughts but the onsen is a bit too hot for us. Otherwise we really like this facility in overall.

The private onsen was amazing and combined with the beautiful scenery, and large viewing windows throughout it was an incredibly tranquil and relaxing experience. The staff were amazing, attentive, and incredibly helpful throughout the stay.

The room was slightly dated, but still well maintained and cared for!

All are great and thank you for the shuttle bus service from and to station.

The check-out time to catch the shuttle bus service is a bit too early. We feel we are in a rush after the breakfast.
