The lodge consists of many cabins ranging from luxurious (book way ahead) to very basic backpackers shared rooms. We stayed in the converted stables with a bathroom outdoors. Clean and warm room. Lovely grounds and location. Nice restaurant. Facilities are old.

The lodge and cabins were probably built in the 70s. They have been upgraded a bit but the kitchens and shared bathrooms are old and need to be renovated. Also we were there over Christmas and there was no warning that the restaurant and cafe would be closed for the holidays.

Grounds were lovely. Room was a lot more up-market than I was expecting, and a decent size. Everything in the room was clean. Staff were polite.

Shared bathroom facilities were, although clean, needed a little maintenance - there was an unsecured light bulb with exposed wiring which, although high enough to not pose a genuine hazard, didn't look very professional. Also one of the chairs in my room was very wobbly and probably would have fallen apart under the weight of some people.

The location is beautiful and the little houses among the trees are really cute. The kitchen inside the cottage was well equipped, and there was also the possibility to cook in the shared kitchen (which had for example an oven). We had a lovely stay there. If you get clear skies, you can enjoy a wonderful night sky as there is little light pollution in the area!

Having to go outside to go to the bathroom is of course not as convenient as when it is inside the cottage, but we knew what to expect when we made our booking, and the shared bathrooms were clean and close enough.

To be honest, our expectations were low having read some reviews. However, our room (in The Stables) was comfortable and clean. The block of two toilets and two showers is in serious need of updating but, the water was hot! The little restaurant serves a range of food and they have other amenities available at reception. It was a bit expensive but it’s location for weary cyclists was perfect.

Updated bathrooms would add a lot.

The bedding was clean and the communal kitchen and bathrooms were clean, although there were some insects. It was a quiet and peaceful setting. I could park right next to the cabin. Check-in at the reception was easy. I paid $53 USD for a cabin with only beds, no kitchenette, sink or bathroom. I saw the staff meticulously cleaning the common areas; very dedicated and hardworking!

Seems like the windows should have mosquito screens installed. I stayed here twice and each time, it was rainy and gloomy, which meant temperatures were cold and perfect for sleeping under the thick comforter blanket. However, I can imagine it would get hot inside on a sunny day and if you opened the windows without screens, sand flies would come in and bite you. Also, the shower water temperature was way too hot and couldn’t be adjusted! I tried both showers in the women’s bathroom and temperature was the same hotness! The faucet sinks seem to also have a very tiny flow of cold water and a very large flow of hot water, so seems they have a huge supply of hot water but not cold water?

Very beautiful and rustic cabins. Very clean bedding. Large and nice communal kitchen. Able to park next to the cabin. Pretty quiet at night.

Seems a bit pricey for what you get, but still more affordable than other lodges. $88 USD for a cabin with a kitchenette and $53 USD for a cabin with no kitchenette. But no private bathroom. Pretty clean but you can tell a lot of stuff are worn down and the curtains can be dirty, for example. There’s only two toilets and two showers in the women’s bathroom and it’s open to insects, obviously. My main complaint is that the shower temperature cannot be adjusted despite the knob appearing to let you adjust from cold to warm to hot. The shower water is too hot for my comfort.

One of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in. Fantastic facilities with an amazing room heater. Staff are easy to communicate with. The whole area this property is set in is incredibly peaceful. Made me feel like I was on my own school camp again.

The communal kitchen felt a little old & tired but it was an amazing stay, nevertheless. The room heater actually has a bluetooth speaker in build and my room speaker was 'found' by a neighbouring guest. They proceeded to play music in my room at 9:30pm at night until minutes later they realised they connected to the wrong speaker. It would be handy if guests were made aware of this (or blocked out) so this couldn't happen. It could go horribly wrong if someone taps into a neighbouring guest's speaker at 3am!

Beautiful scenery everywhere you look. Another plus was the restaurant that had some vegan options, as it is quite tricky to get vegan food in the area. Staff was really friendly.

We were happy with everything apart from the beds. That was probably the worst bed I have ever slept in and my partner and I both woke up with quite some headaches (potentially due to the bad sleep we had). It would be a massive help if the place would renew the mattresses.

The accommodation was great for our needs. Small kitchenette, ensuite and very comfy bed were lovely. Mountain views were nice as well.

Staff were a little abrupt and a little less than friendly. The emailed instructions ( which were all very detailed and seemingly helpful) were not what happened. We expected a map or a general explanation of where things were, like the laundry. We arrived early in the evening, delayed after assisting in a road emergency, and it would have been nice to have someone extend the same kindness to us.

Fantastic location in the middle of nowhere! (Even by NZ standards it is remote.) Make sure you seek out the outdoor baths - a real highlight. The meals at the restaurant aren’t anything fancy but are hearty

The downsides were kitchens (shared and in room) and shared bathrooms well overdue for an update. Beds were hard - they need new inner-sprung mattresses.
