We enjoyed staying at Romlan, it was one of the best places we stayed on our trip to Sumatra. The room was clean, with comfortable bed and blankets, fast wifi, great balcony to admire the lake and the sunset. The bathroom even had a shower cabin which is not a standard on Sumatra. :) Location is great, there's also a restaurant downstairs with delicious food and nice ambient. You can refill your water bottle there. The staff is friendly, helpful and easy to communicate with. They resolved some issues in the fairest and kindest way possible.

It can be a bit noisy (dogs, jetskis, restaurant...) - you can get free earplugs at reception. :) And I think the noise is there in almost all places in Tuktuk. There's cold water only.

We had a wonderful experience at Romlan Guesthouse! The staff were incredibly friendly and always ready to help with anything. What stood out to us the most was the food — everything was homemade, from the jam to the bread and pasta, and it was absolutely delicious. The menu was extensive, offering a great variety of food and drinks, including many Western options. We appreciated the variety since it wasn’t just Indonesian cuisine all the time. The location was also fantastic and very convenient. There are plenty of watersport activities nearby that are easy to book. We also highly recommend staying in one of the traditional bungalows — it was truly an unforgettable experience! Overall, it was fantastic! Greetings Ruben & Aurélie

-friendly and helpful people -spacious and comfortable room with an amazing view to the lake -delicious food -possibility of renting kayaks, paddle boards, motorbike and bicycle -free water refill -cute doggies

-unfortunately the wifi in my room (upstairs) was quite weak which made remote work difficult at times - often had to rely on mobile data (especially during calls) -the noise from the jet skis, especially in the weekends made it hard to relax and unwind - but I’m aware it’s not something the property can control

Very beautiful hotel, rooms with lake views are awesome, clean rooms, very well maintained yards. Providing services as bike rentals, paddle boards etc. Their restaurant was one of the best we visited on Samosir Island. Kids also enjoyed access to water and possibility to swim basically in front of the room.

Parking and entrance access. From the beginning we were quite afraid to get inside, as it looked a bit scary. That's something what owner needs to improve, first intention is very important.

Just by the lake. Ferry will stop at the property. There is a private swimming area. Eateries and mini mart are a few minutes away by scooter. Location is pretty ideal. Highly recommended in house restaurant has good view of the lake and serves delicious food at a reasonable price. Drinking water can be replenished at the restaurant. Wifi works well in the property. Scooter available on site. Property can also arrange transport out of Lake Toba to various destinations. Staff is friendly, helpful and efficient. Clean room is huge with comfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom is big. Room has shelving racks and seating area (both indoors and outdoors). Sufficient power socket available on both sides of the bed.

The beds were EXTREMELY comfortable. The soft and clean linens with a real blanket gave me the best sleep in days (while it lasted). The views were exceptional. It's truly a vibe to just sit outside the room and look at the lake. Lastly, the food at this hotel is actually exceptional. I chose to eat there for almost every meal during my stay after tasting the food on the first night.

I got the economy twin room, which was directly under another room. The roof board to the above room was purely just wood, so when the guest above starting stomping around continuously from 5:30-7am, I was woken up and could no longer sleep.

The rooms were lovely and we had a beautiful view on lake Toba. You can rent motorbikes from Romlan which is very convenient if you want to explore Tuktuk and Samosir. They also have a laundry service and you can rent Kayaks for free! Our highlight was the delicious food served at the restaurant (especially the homemade desserts and breads!) and the super amazing staff!! Johanna gave us great recommendations on what to visit and everyone else was also always happy to help us.

Management and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Quality of meals was outstanding and delicious. Incredible views. I enjoyed having a dip in the lake. Room facilities were adequate with being ale to sit at the terrace to enjoy the views.

My stay was timed with building work in the room next door which started at 7am and went through the day. I could also hear conversations from the room on the other side and from upstairs. I also had the experience of the Independent day celebrations which meant loud ceremonies late into the night from the hotel next door which isn't a criticism on Romlan but a note for the future!

We loved our stay here but would like to warn there are some issues with the original Batak bungalow. The bed is very old with springs you can feel. The entrance is about three feet high with a bar across the bottom. Also the bathroom is outside and down steps. Just be aware if these things could be an issue. Having said that we really enjoyed our stay here. The house has a lovely balcony with fabulous views. The staff are so nice and the food is excellent and affordable. I never wanted to eat anywhere else as it would mean one meal less at Romlans. Would happily have stayed longer.

Overall an excellent stay at Romlans guesthouse. Comfortable and spacious room, each with their own private space/balcony, lake view and outside seating. Beds were big and comfortable, the shower was closed off, which is a plus. The restaurant is good, the coffre is also very good and their sandwich made with fresh bread are enjoyable. The service though is quite slow.

Only downside: the shower pressure for the shower head was so low we ended up showering with the bucket.
