I had an amazing stay at Sara's Backpacker Hostel in Kathmandu. This family-owned gem near Thamel made me feel completely at home. The owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming, treating guests like family from the moment they arrive. It’s also very budget-friendly, which is perfect for travelers looking for quality on a budget. One of the highlights is their airport pickup service, making arrival in Kathmandu stress-free. They prepare food just like they would for their own family—clean, healthy, and full of flavor. The beautiful terrace is a fantastic spot to relax, unwind, and soak in the city views. The rooms are spotless, with a fresh scent that makes staying there a joy. Plus, there's complete flexibility for guests to come and go any time of day or night, which is so convenient for exploring the city. Saharsh, the little boy, is always eager to play and adds a charming, homey touch to the hostel. All in all, I give Sara's Backpacker Hostel a well-deserved 10/10. For anyone looking for a warm, comfortable, and affordable place to stay in Kathmandu, I couldn’t recommend it more!

Sara and her husband have been the most amazing hosts! I am a trauma (abuse) survivor and have been travelling Nepal to refind myself. I have recently come into some money problems- temporary/last minute (I missed my flight to Egypt and had just enough for one more week in Nepal!), and Sara was very happy to accommodate me, give me time to regather funds for onward travel. She and her husband have fed me well! Trusted me. And let me stay like a family member. The hostel itself can be a bit chaotic- they are a very generous and pleasing couple. + There's lots and lots of rooms. But as someone who was in the Refuge system (for women) in the UK, I can say I felt very safe around Sara's (and her husband's) energy. They possibly do too much.

I don't think they sleep at all?! They are parents, managers, and friendly people all in-one. But I guess they do a lot of business. :)

I like that it was maintained by family from which i got safe atmosphere. Staff was helping and kind. I booker the cheapest option, single bed in dormitory which actually for this price was really good, clean, free wifi, drinking water. The mattress was hard which personally i like (reminds me of sleeping on the ground and better for health) so it wasn’t disadvantage.

I was dissatisfied with location as most of my stay in Kathmandu I was spending at Boudhanath. And it takes one to two buses to go there or 1,5h by walk. But all kinds of shops and restaurants are nearby.

I spent more than 2 weeks in this accommodation, you have to know that I have been travelling for over 6 months and for the first time on my trip I really felt at home. Sara and Sudan gave me a feeling that you can only feel comfortable and everyone who has visited the hotel can definitely say that. The rooms are great and are fairly priced, the food from Sudan, who was also a chef in America for 5 years, tastes simply fantastic and is also super healthy. You can't get the food in any restaurant, the prices are really not expensive. I would choose this hotel again and again for my stay in Kathmandu. no matter how or when the family and the Staff are always helpful and friendly and always had a smile on their faces. I would like to thank you again, I appreciate it 🙏🏼

This place was amazing. The fact it’s not in the city centers gives a much more authentic experience when coming to Kathmandu, you will meet many locals at the hostels and outside. There are loads of nice places very close to eat delicious local food and going to town is very easy and cheap with local bike app. I am so happy I found this place. Furthermore I was very nicely welcomed by Susbinar and Sara, a lovely family running this guesthouse in a very authentic way, far from the tourist traps we find when we travel. It was a great experience very cheap very spacious rooms, even the dorms are packed with people; food is lovely too I actually came back here on my way back to Kathmandu . Thanks for everything

I had a wonderful 10-day stay at this hotel. The experience was truly amazing, thanks to the warm hospitality and home-like environment. The owner, Sara, is incredibly kind and welcoming. She is also a fantastic chef—I enjoyed the delicious cuisines she prepared. The entire team was very friendly and accommodating, making my stay comfortable and memorable. Highly recommended!

The owner was so kind, always here to help you and make your journey better! Everybody here’s always smiling and so authentic! The hostel was wonderful, especially the rooftop with an amazing view. The rooms were clean, comfortable and beautiful! The food as well was cheap and amazing! I also felt quiet in a crazy city, so for me it was a must!!
