Had the larger Rooms detached from hotel, with a large ensuite and bath. Air conditioner worked well, ceiling fan was appreciated as well on 39 degree day. Is on a main road but thick stone wall helped dampen road noise. Breakfast toast and cereal in room to make yourself. Tea and coffee with mini fridge in cupboard.. Rising sun hotel for tea excellent, short walk to other shops.

Front veranda was not clean and had to wipe seats to sit on. Ceiling fan noisy at times. Does have steep steps into ensuite and shower over bath so need to be able to climb over that.

We felt very comfortable here. This single night stay suited our plans perfectly. We were having a diverse weekender in Clare/Kapunda, combining wine, tourist attraction/history & a hike. We needed somewhere quiet with a comfy bed, in-room inclusive brekky was ok & before a 7.30am hike. Loved visiting Felicity's gorgeous vintage shop across the road. Our meals at dinner were delicious, substantial & great value! We appreciated an early booking time, too! Would've like the addition of multigrain bread, coffee bags or Moccona strong coffee, granola & add a small yoghurt for brekky.

The openness between bathroom and bedroom (no door).

Breakfast was very basic, self serve in room but adequate. Room was quaint, but roomy for my needs. Daily room servicing was excellent. Privacy was very good.

Elevated steps to enter the on-suite were a bit challenging for me (older person). Had one issue were car parking on site was unavailable on Saturday night due to car parks being taken by visiting band providing live music.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff, made us feel very welcome. Beautiful historic building and gardens. Great location, safe, quiet and value for money. Restaurant on site for dinner. Our room also had a decanter with what we assumed was port (didn’t partake on this occasion), which was a nice touch. Good selection for continental breakfast in rooms. Was nice to sit under the verandah and enjoy the gardens.

Step down into bathroom could be tricky for anyone with mobility issues.

Quaint , old world charm, clean , comfy bed, so quiet .. all you could want for an over night stay. fridge stocked with all you require . shower and toilet on tap . would loved to stay longer and look around the town also . word of mouth saying the hotel serves great meals . car park secure. short distance from room

The old style room was very good, as was the bathroom. The setting was very pleasant, plenty of parking off road, the pub when open was terrific for food and beer and wine.

The fact that the pub closed completely mid Sunday afternoon.

Adelaide was so lovely and kind. I think Emma (blonde lady) was the person who welcomed us. Also very kind. Room was really sweet. As expected of a venue like this. Loads of character.

Poor wifi in the hotel bedrooms. I needed to work, and was unable to complete work. So, in the morning I got up and the hotel didn't open till 11am. I ended up at Velvet & Willow and used their wifi, drank their coffee, and wine instead.

Absolutely loved this charming historic old pub (circa 1850s) on the southern end of the Clare Valley. The town of Auburn has many similar buildings, which are being lovingly nurtured and enjoyed by both the tourists and the proud community. Our group had rooms of varying sizes, some very small, one very large, however all rooms were 'atmospheric' - beautiful linen, traditional furniture, open fires (in our room), lots of little extras. The staff were wonderful. Bathrooms were as one would expect in such historic buildings; have been upgraded, but definitely not 5 star. Didn't' matter!!

We had a great experience. Great service, friendly staff and a very reasonable price. There was off street parking which was fantastic. We dined in the restaurant and really enjoyed our meals. We had a simple continental breakfast which was provided as a part of the room.

We loved the old style decor in the old building that was simply and subtly retrofitted to make ensuite bathrooms for the bedrooms. The 19thC iron bed was a delight.

The carpets were a bit shabby, lace curtains need a wash and the room needed a second bedside lamp.
