We stayed in the family room 7/8 which is up on the hill and has amazing views of the ocean (and sunset). Every day we would see (or hear) the scarlet macaws and toucans in the trees. Appreciated the AC, the outdoor kitchen & living room and that everything was very clean. Landscaping is beautiful. Definitely recommend getting breakfast included--kitchen at the hotel is well run and food is delicious Costa Rican fare. Tours were easily organized through hotel and very convenient. We did Corcovado overnight, Caño Island snorkeling and a sunset boat ride. Our guides were always excellent and then you didn't need to organize any transportation from the hotel.

The beach close by is beautiful but not ideal for swimming. To get to town you could do a long walk or pay $10 one way for a taxi ride. This is fine & expected given the beautiful location, but it does limit your ability to easily eat anywhere else, explore town of Drake Bay or go to the more swimmable beach there. We were happy with the trade off but could imagine some might prefer more variety being in town.

Lovely atmosphere, lovely garden. Restaurant has really good food. As they are also tour operators then you can many of the Drake bay's activities organized by them. It is possible to have breakfast from 5AM which is perfect for having the tours that start very early. Beach almost in front of the hotel and also, it is almost like a private beach, I did not see too many people. Oh, and I loved that one guy who is also a tour guide was just casually practicing guitar every evening. :)

It was hard to get answers before arriving. My room did not have a warm shower (not a big problem but still). It was not too reliable if or when you will have somene picking you up after the tours (as Gitana is located a bit away from the city and main locations that the tours end).

Hospitality, kindness, friendliness, sparkling clean rooms, air conditioner, warm water, delicious meals, hub for tours around the area (they are the main tour operators) peaceful setting with ocean view, and their trail to the blue clear beach, and plenty of wild life. Edith and Johnathan are beautiful humans, beautiful people, the best hosts ever. I don't have more words to say than you will be in the best place to stay and the right people to plan to see around Drake bay and the Osa Península ( Corcovado National Park).

That I didn't have more time to do the Trail of the Tapir (Danta), but will return for this.

The tours here are amazing!! We booked all our tours with the manager, and think we had the best ones. It was very easy, with pick up and drop off at the hotel, great tour guides. We did the Corcovado national park tour, and the Cano island catamaran tour - definitely do these! We ate breakfast and dinner here every day, and it was great! Good options, with delicious food and prepared with love. Adorable dogs to play with while you're there. It's within walking distance to the beach, and driving distance to the town. Simple room and bathroom but a great price if that's what you're looking for.

Unfortunately our room had a lot of mosquitos every day. I think a mosquito net on the bed would come in handy here.

The beach is just wonderful. Very long and great for walking and swimming with outrageous sunsets. Completely deserted. Loved it. We ate at the restaurant most days which was good. Lots of vegetarian options and good service. Edith and Jonathan helped us with taxis and tour scheduling. We love to hike and the Drake Bay trail was epic. We stayed 5 nights. Great ending to a 4 week trip!

Wifi was spotty at times. But that’s to be expected. The hotel is an outside of town (10 minute taxi ride) but totally worth it in my opinion. The town didn’t do much for us anyway….

I enjoyed staying at Casa Gitana during my last few days in Costa Rica. The room was very spacious and clean. The hosts Edith and Jonathan were extremely helpful , they arranged water taxi from Sierpe, picked up, and dropped off service to pier and tour to Corcovado National Park. The garden is well kept with colourful plants and flowers, which attracts lots of birds. There was a beautiful Gitana beach to relax and watched the sunset. I highly recommend staying here to experience true Costa Rica beauty.

Nothing, everything was perfect.

Amazing place - very clean, friendly and helpful staff, delicious (but really, delicious) food and location, just few meters from beautiful Gitana beach (see pictures). They also organised all the logistics for us - boat from Sierpe, pick-up at the dock in Drake Bay, tour to NP Corcovado (with complete American breakfast at 5 AM before the departure) , taxi to the airport, … We felt really relaxed and had a great time.

Considering the location in the countryside, right next to NP Corcovado, everything was above the expectations.

Jonathan and Edith were fantastic! The hotel is clean, comfortable and responsibility priced. The food was excellent and being able to work with them to secure by boat and transport needs was very helpful. One of my tours cancelled sorry noticed and Jonathan was able to get me booked with another tour company doing the same activity at the time I had my original tour scheduled which allowed me to keep all my other activities in place. Additionally, I asked about a night hike and due to the weather the main hike did not occur but he was able to secure a private tour for me which was a nice surprise. Edith is a good cook and I enjoyed her food while staying in Drake Bay. She also coordinated for my laundry to be washed and when my bag wasn't returned she followed up the next day to ensure it was returned. She pointed out every sunset so I didn't miss seeing them and they are beautiful from sitting in the dining area that faces out towards the water (so long as you don't have your back to that side). There is a beautiful garden that welcomes you everytime you step outside of your room and they have wonderful dogs and a cat to keep you company. I was sad I had to leave because it was so comfortable and the energy was very soothing, but that is how vacations work, at some point we pack up and leave. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommended this hotel to others.

Just that I had to leave because my time in Drake Bay was over. I didn't particularly like that the power was out when I got there and then came back and went out again that night, but it had nothing to do with the hotel. The entire area has no power because a tree can't down on power lines in a storm and when the power was restored, shortly after there was a car accident where a car hit a power line pole and took it out again. These are just things you deal with, but again, it had nothing to do with the hotel. They Even talked into their backup power to have done lights on.

The room was lovely and comfortable and the hotel is just a very short walk to a practically deserted sandy beach with great swimming. The hosts are super. Edith was so kind and Jonnathan worked so hard to make my arrangements for tours and provide rides to and from tours. During the tours, either provided or recommended by Hotel Gitana I saw tapirs, an ant eater, three species of monkeys, pantropic spotted dolphins, many green sea turtles, a mass of 30 white tip reef sharks mating, AND I dove with giant manta rays. Another highlight was jumping into a water fall pool and climbing into a small slippery cave behind the fall.

It did cost $10 to get a taxi to the nearby town of Drake Bay where there was the option of other restaurants, so that limited my exploration farther from the hotel. Although the smoothies were delicious, I didn’t care too much for the onsite restaurant.

Beautiful location. Jonathan was super helpful with organizing tours and transportation, especially to the property from the airport. We were on a family trip and our kids are older so it was great that we could have this vacation together and there were so many great things to see and do in the immediate area without the stress or feel of a very touristy area.
