Adel, the owner / host, was the kindest person we met on our India travels. He was incredibly kind and trusting and went out of his way to provide the best possible experience for our stay, not just in the hotel but in Thekkady itself. Massive thanks for his hospitality. From our room we saw monkeys, giant squirrels, many types of bird, and an amazing wildlife landscape - with the balcony literally amongst the trees. I can't recommend this accommodation more and hopefully will be coming back again

Not much - lots of bugs but it is basically on the edge of a jungle. Take repellent.

This place is simply amazing. Completely hidden from the road, the building is in the middle of a beautiful, lush garden, full of local animals that we could see from our balcony. You can tell how much care and dedication the owners put into it. The property also offers a pool on the roof and nice common areas for breakfast and lunch. We initially selected a more “luxurious” hotel in the area, before finding Chrissie’s and booking here for its great reviews. After a few weeks already in India, we were a bit scared of its “rustic” looks. We didn’t regret our choice for a second: the room was really clean and comfortable, furnished simply but with good taste and well kept. The balcony is beautiful, and we really felt inside a rainforest. The owners and the staff are extremely friendly and hospitable. One of us was sick and they offered plenty of homemade ginger-lemon tea, delivered directly to our room, which was very helpful. The hotel has a restaurant offering a mix of Indian and international cuisine, which was quite good. Breakfast is also really good, rich and variate, with both Indian and continental options, including homemade jams and bread. While being in the nature, the property is close both to shops, and to the Periyar tiger reserve which can be reached on foot. Parking is available in a small lot nearby. Overall, absolutely recommended!

Breakfast time starts a bit late, considering that many activities in the Periyar tiger reserve start quite early. A reduced breakfast was however available for us at 7, so not really a big issue.

Chrissie's Hotel in Thekkady provided a very pleasant stay. Its location is a major advantage, being conveniently within walking distance of the Periyar Tiger Reserve entrance. We also enjoyed seeing some local wildlife nearby due to its proximity to nature. The hotel features a nice swimming pool, which was enjoyable for relaxing, and the on-site restaurant served great food. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful throughout our visit, which added positively to the experience. Considering the amenities and location, the hotel is very affordable and offers really good value for money. Overall, Chrissie's Hotel is probably the best choice for accommodation in Thekkady, offering a comfortable and well-located base for exploring the area. We had a very very positive experience and would recommend it to anyone.

Adel and the team were amazing! Extremely accommodating and welcoming, and they recommended excellent trips to Periyaar Tiger Reserve as well as the jeep tour (where we managed to see wild elephants!). The location is great - very central yet quiet and it was definitely something seeing the wild monkeys and giant squirrels in the garden. Breakfast was lush - fresh sourdough and homemade peanut butter and chocolate spread. Wish we could've stayed for longer!

The bathroom was more of a wet room but it dried quickly.

Super friendly staff “the A team” go above and beyond to help you, greeting us on arrival with hibiscus tea, booking bamboo rafting, telling us where to buy postcards and booking us a very careful taxi driver to our next destination. The rooms are very comfortable and it is lovely to watch the monkeys and deer from our balcony. The pool was a great addition as the area was lovely to sit around and chill after a hectic day in the park, nice to have pool towels as well. We ate in the restaurant every night as we thought it was very reasonable and offered a good variety - Middle Eastern, Italian and local. Breakfasts were fab too with homemade bread, jams and chocolate. Hot water to your room in the morning for tea or coffee was a nice touch as was the free toiletries.

Maybe a kettle in the room, but they did explain trying to be eco-friendly and save electricity.

What an incredible time we had at Chrissie’s Hotel! An absolute gem of a place to stay if wanting to visit the Periyar national park or just relax and enjoy the nature. The “A team” were amazing from arrival and treated us so well throughout our stay. We had a complimentary lemon juice on arrival and then sat with Adel to discuss all the activities we could do whilst we were there. We actually extended our stay because there was more we wanted to do. They organised a spice garden tour, traditional Keralan show and martial arts, trekking and bamboo rafting and a jeep safari tour, trek and boating in the Periyar National Park. As well as providing a delicious breakfast every morning. Watching the monkeys,squirrels and birds from the balcony was definitely a highlight. The room was very clean and they also provided laundry service which we were grateful for. Wish we could have stayed longer as it’s such a relaxing place. Would highly recommend!

A delightful experience. We arrived after a somewhat bone-shaking bus journey from Kottayam. Adel, the consummate host, immediately made us feel at home and sent us some ginger tea with honey to soothe our stomachs. They produce the honey on site! The hotel's location is perfect for exploring the nearby Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Thekkady. The room was spacious and well-furnished, featuring comfortable beds and a lovely balcony that provided stunning views of the surrounding greenery, not to mention many species of birds and some very cheeky monkeys! On our second night a troop of monkeys settled in the trees outside our room. At dawn we wrapped ourselves in blankets and watched them for an hour. Absolutely magical!. The cleanliness and attention to detail in the room made it a comfortable retreat after a day of adventures. The artworks throughout the hotel give it a charming, creative feel. One of the highlights of my stay was the warm hospitality from the staff. They were friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and always ready to assist with any inquiries or provide recommendations for local attractions. The hotel also offers a restaurant with a rooftop dining area that serves a variety of delicious dishes, including local Kerala cuisine, Italian and Middle Eastern. Breakfast was a combination of home made goodies, like bread and granola, boiled eggs and fruit. I don't drink caffeine so they made me fresh mint tea. Just an example of the thoughtful attention and care that was typical of our stay here. In summary, I highly recommend Chrissie's Hotel for anyone visiting Thekkady. With its charming accommodation, excellent service and convenient location, it's a wonderful choice for a memorable stay in this beautiful area. We'll be back!

The WiFi signal was a little inconsistent. The pool is a little small but still great for a refreshing dip.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We were a group of 8, and they made all of us feel very comfortable. The rooms were large and clean. There were no mosquitoes in the room. The balconies opened out to the amazing forest/garden. Sitting on the balcony we could spot an incredible diversity of wildlife. This is one of the best features of the hotel. The views from the rooftop were amazing! People in our group enjoyed the pool. The breakfast buffet was also very good - there is both south Indian and bread/cereals available, and they were all very good. The homemade jams, chocolate and peanut butter were very tasty. The staff also had excellent tips for viewpoints and spice gardens. We had early morning appointments at the forest and they thoughtfully provided us with bananas before we left. The helpful staff is the second best thing about the hotel!

Rooms were minimal - some furniture in the room like a cupboard or a table would have been nice, but not a huge issue.

I liked everything! From the minute I arrived I was looked after so well. They constantly went above and beyond booking things for me, running me down to meeting points, hot tea, cold drinks… nothing was a bother! The outlook into the forest from the rooms is lovely, it’s in the perfect walk anywhere but away from the busy Main Street location, breakfast is superb and you can pay to attend yoga classes on site too. I loved Kumily in general, super nice town to walk around and wished I could stay longer than 3 nights!

Great stay with greenery all around, super beautiful vibe in the middle of the town. We got to see loads of nilgiri langurs and birds during our stay. The owner Adel is such a lovely person and really helpful with anything that you need. Plus he provides some really great recommendations. The food is great and the breakfast spread has some of the best homemade jams and chocolates you'll get anywhere. Everything is at a walking distance and since it is in a parallel road to the main road, traffic is much lower. Highly recommend this stay
