Previous reviews have made a point that Rupert goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a successful stay - and this is absolutely the case. Brae Lea house is clean and comfortable, soft white bed linen, steaming hot shower, delicious breakfast and well situated to visit neighbouring islands. Rupert went out of his way to give us advice on where to visit, how to get there and - most importantly- how to navigate the chaos of the ferries. He even made a packed breakfast for us for our early morning departure. His book is a must for all visitors to Uist. He really is the perfect host.
We have nothing negative to say at all! We just wish he could take over the running of CalMac ferries.

Rupert was the nicest, kindest, most attentive host I have ever encountered in many years of visiting guest houses. His meals are fantastic, good quality and very well cooked. The fact there is an ev charger at the house is fantastic so well done Rupert in having this installed, we appreciated being able to charge in the evenings. Beds were fabulous as were the pillows (which is a rarity) plenty tea/coffee supplies daily were very handy. Huge library to borrow whilst there was good and a comfy lounge available to sit and watch the birds from. Nothing was too much trouble and advice always available, a perfect host!
The teeny bathroom was not the best and was rather roughly decorated. Im sure it will be on Rupert’s list to do. I’m so sorry but the shower let the property down immensely as really needs upgrading or an additional pump maybe fitted to boost such poor water flow. Sound proofing wasn’t good I assume this was why there was no TV in room due to the lack of soundproofing but a Volume limited TV would have been good to have.

Rupert’s Bed and Breakfast was exceptional. He gave us a kind and friendly welcome and took the time to get to know us, making us feel and home while providing great services. He served amazing food for breakfast and gave helpful recommendations for dinner. His extensive knowledge of the region made for interesting conversation and helped us learn about South Uist. He even sells copies of his own guidebook! The room was comfortable and exactly as described. He has set up the house in a way that is inviting while conscientious of the varying preferences for privacy of every guest. Everything as specific as the orientation of the chairs in the sitting room is thoughtfully arranged. I can’t recommend this enough!

Lovely welcome from the owner with full explanation of facilities available i.e residents lounge, breakfast and how to contact him. The room was beautiful and bed comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and even got extra portion!! Host was very good with local area knowledge and places of interest to visit. He was very concerned about his guests as a storm was coming in and advised he would have room for us should we need. The accommodation was so lovely and quiet too
How short our stay was!!!! We would love to have been there longer

Rupert could not have been more helpful- he's the best host I've ever stayed with. When our ferry was cancelled, he contacted us with helpful advice about alternatives. He's a fountain of knowledge about the local area and has a guide book which is a must! The bed was exceptionally comfortable and breakfast was delicious, he even organised gluten free options for me. The room was clean and had everything you need. There is parking on sight and the property is well signposted from the road. Altogether lovely. Cannot recommend highly enough!
There's nothing not to like.

Rupert has done everything to make this small guesthouse into the go-to accommodation option in South Uist. Room is comfortable and good value, and there are so many details where he has gone well beyond the minimum - from the delicious locally sourced breakfast items to the veritable library of local books. The stylish shared guest lounge has a big picture window and looks out across an attractive landscape. And the location is delightfully quiet yet a short stroll from town across a pedestrian causeway. Thank you.

A short drive to/from the Lochboisdale ferry terminal, which is very helpful when sailings can be very early, as well as ideally situated for the ferry to Barra (20 minutes drive away). The property itself is very comfortable with a spacious guest lounge. Situated by an inlet there are lots of walks close by, with lovely views. The host is a mine of information for travellers, helping them with recommendations for places to eat and keeping them updated on changes to ferry sailings.

The owner was the epitome of hospitable and informative - welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area, in particular the older houses and the 1909 school which have been allowed to fall into disuse ... and about why most buildings are pebble-dashed. The bed was comfortable; the bedding was top quality and brilliantly white. The hospitality tray included coffee bags rather than sticks of instant, and locally roast coffee was served with the plentiful breakfast, setting me up for a day's adventuring.
Shower door showing the beginnings (or possibly remains) of 'damp' - however the little ensuite was otherwise clearly well cared for.

Rupert was an excellent host. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area; his suggestions were much appreciated. I arrived at his property after a long day in the cold, rain and wind. My comfortable room allowed me to relax and plan the following day with more optimism. The breakfast I had the following morning was delicious (scrambled eggs, salmon flakes and toasted sourdough bread). The coffee I was served needs a special mention too as it really was lovely. Rupert explained to me that it was roasted locally by Skydancer. I would highly recommend visiting them and /or having a look at their website.
I cannot think of anything.

Host very knowledgeable of the area and had good advice about the best places to visit and eat.
We were asked to delay breakfast on the day we wanted to get away early to accommodate other guests, who then either didn't show or left very early before breakfast started. When we arrived at the 'appointed time' there was a strong hint that there wasn't time for a full Scottish breakfast and we felt obliged to go for one of the quicker options.
