Nice guesthouse at the outskirts of historic Koyasan temples, that can be easily reached on foot. We slept in a sort of suite with two ambients and altogether five beds (with room for a sixth) and private bathroom. Cosy place, clean and quiet, several room services provided, although the hot water dispenser was not working properly (but there is a microwave available in a common room). Very gentle and helpful owner.
I would just suggest to install curtains at the windows to ensure less daylight coming in in the morning. Price might appear a bit high, but in the context of Koyasan not so.

Nice and proper guest house in Koyasan. A supermarket is nearby. The kitchen on the ground floor has a handy instant hot water machine for tea or noodles. I loved the bathroom with a automatic warm water tap as well as a warm toilet seat. They left the outside door open so that I could go for a evening walk to Okunoin after curfew at 22:30. The room was a bit small however and the walls were very thin, unlike the booking that stated that the walls were soundproof. So it was very noisy when the cleaner ran back and forth through the hallway in the morning and vacuum cleaned rooms with the room doors open. An unpleasant way to wake up in the morning. The room and bathroom can also get a bit chilly.

The location is more ideal than I realised when booking. All the buses now travel between the Station and the Cemetery going past No 19 bus stop where you alight for the Guesthouse. The buses are very regular. The food at the attached Gastropub was superb. The staff were amazing. We were very lucky that staff in the restaurant took the time to let us know (through translation app) that there was a Fire Festival the same day. It was one of my most memorable moments. I would not have known it was happening if they did not take the time to approach us. Thank you. In my opinion this end of the town was the best location. The room (family room) was well heated and plenty of bedding. We only used it for 2 friends travelling and it gave us plenty of space.
Nothing not to like.

Lovely handlord as husband and wife also run the small cafe downstairs. Lovely couple, very friendly and welcoming. Orientation done at check in, was shown round to familiarise with rules of staying overnight which was polite and informative. Not many rooms so sharing the two toilets and one bathroom and shower was never an issue. Everything clean. Tatami mats super smooth. I recommend dinner and/or lunch at the cafe downstairs, very tasty, best food I've had in my 2 week tour of Japan. Very affordable too. What makes this place unique is the laughter of the staff interacting with one another and the overall friendly environment. Some workplaces don't have this but this place does and that's something special.
Honestly, can't think of anything. Only advice I could give would be to check walking times from Okuoin cemetary so you don't get caught out returning late at night as buses are restricted. It's further than you think!

We had the Family Rom for 2 nights and the room is really good. We chose this room as we wanted our own bathroom. The room has twin beds and a upper bed too as also foldable beds, I think there can sleep 5 or 6 people. As we had problems with the car we arrived quite late and hoped the owner would wait for us (we messaged) and they were there and we even could get some dinner. We were very thankful about that. Breakfast was good, its served in the restaurant. As we liked the food in the restaurant it was sad for us that we stayed there while restaurant was closed on the second day - as far as I know they are closed for 2 days in the week.
This has nothing to do with the Hotel or the restaurant but be aware that it can be hard getting dinner somewhere when the restaurant is closed.

-The entire place (room, bathroom, etc) was immaculately clean and well-maintained - Bed was comfy, there was an extra comforter as well as heater in-room - Host was amazingly helpful, took the time to answer all my questions and mark things on the map for me - While it was on the opposite end of town as Okunoin, it was still close to a bunch of other important sites as well as the bus stop and convenience store, should you choose to use it. If not, it doesn't take that long to get across town anyway.
They lock down by a certain hour. While that's not a big deal since there's really no need to be out late in this town, sometimes I like to take later showers (past 10pm).

Lovely workers notified us that most restaurants close by 5PM in Koyasan and we could make a booking for dinner here. The room is tidy and clean, warm blankets are provided and everything you need for your stay. Good location close to famous sights but about a 30min walk from Okunoin, easy to get to with local bus though. Showers are clean and warm. There is a communal area where we hoped to make our own breakfast but only cups are provided no bowls or spoons. Otherwise I recommend this place if all the temples are booked up!

The guesthouse is really new. It is clean and the room is confortable. Easy to get there after cable car by bus. Convenient store and restaurants near by. Staff makes me feel very welcome and you can leave your luggage in the storage area the day you are arriving or leaving.
No kitchen to cook your food and no common space, except the sofa in the entrance but I was aware of it before I booked so not really a problem. It's a bit expensive compared to other places in Japan but still cheap for Koyasan.

Super friendly staff, they were good at trying to communicate with those who couldn't speak Japanese, loads of English written explanations if you need them. Warm and comfy rooms. Slightly set back from the most touristy part of the town which I liked. It's all so close anyway that it really isn't a bother.
This is barely even a problem but I had trouble figuring out which of the 3 doors the entrance and had to call them, which was a tad embarrassing. If it hadn't been heavily snowing I imagine this wouldn't have been an issue...

Staying in Koyasan for New Year's Eve was a truly magical experience. The opportunity to witness the solemn prayer ceremony and hear the deep, resonant tones of the temple bell in such a sacred setting was truly unforgettable. The serene ambiance of the temple enveloped me, offering a sense of tranquility and peace that made time seem to stand still. For those seeking a unique and spiritual New Year's Eve, I wholeheartedly recommend Koyasan. Just be sure to book your accommodation well in advance. I love here in Suzumeno🫶🥰😘
