The pool was nice and clean. The setting was great, in a mango orchard! We did some great birding from our balcony in the mornings and saw an Asian Paradise Flycatcher!!! The restaurant only served breakfast, which was very good. They even had a special breakfast for Christmas morning! We went to town for dinner. There is not a lot on offer in Dambulla, but we ate at a couple of different restaurants. The hotel offers free bikes and we went on several rides. So fun and there is a small lake close by that is worth pedaling too. Nice birds at the lake, too! The hosts were really helpful, checked in with us often, provided free transport to the caves and helped us arrange transport to our next location. They even suggested a safari on the way, which was very fun! Great place to stay!

Gorgeous hotel that felt like a luxury property for a fraction of the price. My room was large, sparkling clean, and comfortable with a patio overlooking the lovely grounds.The staff were very kind and helpful - first they let me borrow a bike to go to town in the evening, and drove me in their tuktuk to the cave temple in the morning. The location is just a few minutes walk from the main bus station, 15 minutes to the center of town, and 25 minutes to the Golden Temple entry. I wish I could have stayed longer in this lovely oasis.

I couldn't make the hot water work in the shower, but it may have been my error and not the heater.

The hotel is in closed area with nice garden, which was very conveniet. All the staff was extremely friendly, however not all of them spoke English, but the receptionist did. They brought us extra towels when we went to swimming pool (without us asking) :). We also rented bikes for free during our stay. They were old, but sufficient to ride around the city, to visit the temples etc. They arranged for us a tuktuk trip to Sigiriya and took us to bus station and helped us to get the right bus to Kandy when we were leaving (for free). the breakfast was very big, we got standard fresh fruits, toasts, eggs, but also typical srilankan dishes as well as the best coconut pancakes (roti). the service was overall amazing.

I had a large, spotless, well-equipped room with a spacious balcony overlooking the generous swimming pool. The staff were unfailingly helpful; they organised tuktuks, advised on outings and transport options - they even drove me to the bus when I (reluctantly) left. What was exceptional, though, was the breakfast - I've never had anything like it: amazing food, beautifully presented. I really, really didn't want to leave. Freedom Village is punching way above its weight - it's fantastic!

It was a nice big room with a little balcony - better than I expected for the budget option. The fridge was welcome too, for beers bought at the offie in the main road! Breakfast was awesome- best we've had in 4 weeks in SL! Big enough to share - or put in your fridge for later 🙂. The pool is amazing - big and cool. Staff were helpful with good recommendations for local drivers.

The bathroom seemed a little grubby round the edges but everything else was perfect.

The location of being just outside the main town is excellent as it makes it much quieter, but it is only a short walk - about 200 meters - via a route through the grounds to the main bus stand and town. The owners and staff were superb... helpful, friendly and couldn't have been better in their advice and proactive support with restaurants and travel.....us and other guests were given complimentary rides to bus stops, restaurants and the Dambulla Golden Cave Temple. The swimming pool was excellent and breakfast was very plentiful. We had the standard double rooms which were large, clean, comfortable and had kettles, tea, coffee and fridges. These were topped up by the staff who came to the rooms checking on what we needed.

The only thing that is needed is some more loungers for around the pool as there weren't many and these quickly filled up.....but this was a minor matter and this may well be planned anyway.

Everything was super, large room and bathroom, balcony, fridge, ample plugs, and lighting. Welcome drinks and home made Sri Lankan treats were delightful. Breakfast was very good. (Sri Lankan coffee and breakfast, as well as fresh fruit, juice, as well. Staff lovely. Pool clean and refreshing. Family extremely helpful A driver we had used in the past was supposed to send a colleague for our next stop but no one showed up. Our host took extra care to find us a replacement. Thank you sir! Previous two days àn excellent tuk tuk driver took us on day excursions., again set up by the host family.. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here!

It's the swimming pool that made this hotel great. After a day of sightseeing it was lovely to take a dip in the pool to cool off. They even supply pool towels. The hotel itself was good with a nice spacious clean room with coffee and tea making facilities. There was a large complimentary bottle of water on arrival and they also gave us another. There were little bottles of shampoo and conditioner and a small bar of soap. The shower was hot and worked well, but no separate cubicle so the whole bathroom got a soaking. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. The hotel is in a good location for the town and it about a one and a half kilometre walk to the Golden Temple. We would recommend Manj Restaurant & Bar for a beer and an evening meal as everything is cooked fresh and very reasonably priced. Their fries and curry leaves as a snack with a beer are amazingly delicious.

Lots of showers in Sri Lanka, like the Freedom Hotel, have no separate shower cubicle. I hate paddling about in the bathroom after a shower. Otherwise all good.

When I checked out nobody told me that is not paid ( I thought it’s charged from my card) I even stayed 3 hours at the pool after check out . When I left ( on my way to another city ) I received a message that it’s not paid and I have to come back to pay TODAY! Didn’t give me any option for online payment, the back account number which was sent to me wasn’t regular IBAN so I couldn’t do transfer via my account. So I had to find out a way to send them the amount while keep receiving messages that I MUST PAY TODAY !!! So I had to find the bank which is the same as their account and transfer the money . Was quite overwhelming and frustrating. Please ASK FOR THE PAYMENT ON TIME . As it’s not my responsibility that you didn’t say anything neither on arrival nor departure
