October 2023

We stayed at Boutique Hotel Posada 17 for five nights in mid- July 2023. We very much enjoyed it. Christina, the host, was very friendly, helpful, and charming. She arranged to have us picked up at the airport and returned five days later for a very early flight. She gave us great recommendations in Puebla for restaurants, things to see, and things to do. Breakfast each day was from a menu of choices. It all was very fresh and very good. The hotel itself is a residence that was attached to a nearby cathedral centuries ago and later converted to private housing. It has old style Spanish charm is rustic and eclectic. The hotel has 8 to 10 rooms and all seem to be fairly modern in terms of the bathroom and various expected furnishings. There are no lifts, and the ceilings are tall, so there are a fair amount of stairs between the floors. We stayed on the very top floor in a suite. It had a nice balcony. Although there was no air conditioning, we were comfortable in the mornings and evenings with the windows open and air circulating and using the multiple fans in the room. We would definitely stay here again.

Air Conditioning would have been nice in July in late afternoon, but the fans and open windows made it comfortable.

We liked to eat out at the Zocalo (central plaza) but other guests spoke positively of breakfast. The owner and her staff were amazing - cheerful, helpful, focused on details. The little hotel (just 7 rooms) was a home dating from the mid-17th century (hence the name), which has been lovingly updated and filled with some terrific period furniture. Very central location for walks, people watching, markets and museums. The whole hotel was very clean, with large rooms, good hot water and a little fridge. It was a very lucky choice for our 6 days in Puebla.

There is no way to change this fact, .... it is very noisy on Monday nights. The famous wrestling arena is across the road, and it's very noisy on Monday nights up until about 11 pm only. The solution we used was to wear ear plugs, but a better alternative would be to go see the spectacle for yourself!

The staff was extremely kind and helpful. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and awesome. The property is beautiful and historic, with interesting antique and hand forged locks on windows and doors. Marianne and Christiana arranged for Carlos to take us on a wonderful day tour to visit the pyramid in Cholula and interesting churches we never imagined. He also recommended a nice place for lunch —-all was delicious and reasonably priced. Carlos’ tour was super reasonable, so tip him well! Christiana was forthcoming with special requests at night, including mine for hot milk. Marianne helped us with getting our heavy luggage up the steps to our room. Both were always available to us whenever we returned to the hotel or were on our way out. It’s important to tip them, too!

I am reluctant to say that there was anything I didn’t like, since the hotel was a perfect choice for us, but, they do need to have removable drain covers for the sink and bathtub as is customary in high end hotels and modest Airbnbs alike.

The property is an old 17th century house filled with antiques and even a small chapel. It was a fantastic find for visiting Zócalo. Even the room keys seem original and took some practice to get right. The staff was exceptional and were the most accommodating of any place I've ever stayed. I thought it was fantastic value at essentially $75USD/night in February.

I didn't notice air conditioning in my room (thought I remembered seeing it as a listed feature) and the older doors don't seal in the frame so the room likely gets warm in the hot season (May-July). However, it was perfect weather during my mid-Feb stay!

Staying at Posada XVII felt like being welcomed into someone’s beautiful old home. The place is stunning and every detail has that antique charm but it’s clearly been cared for with love. The staff were just as lovely: warm, quick to respond, and genuinely kind. It was the kind of hospitality that makes you want to come back.

The bedrooms could become uncomfortably warm at night, which makes it hard to sleep well. Even though there’s a fan on the lower level, the airflow is poor and doesn’t reach the upper level of the split-level rooms.

A charming hotel-with its big wooden doors and decor, it feels like you’re in another time and place. The staff is so helpful and the breakfast is fabulous!

Amazing location and I was facing away from the Lochador arena, so it didn’t bother me at all. Quiet hotel. The nicest staff!!!! I was flying late in the evening and they let me stay the whole afternoon no charge. They were always smiling and so sweet. Very cute place and I loved the vibe. Nice big and beautiful bathroom Amazon prime and Netflix on the tv Super location, short walk to everything. Lovely breakfast (fruit, yoghurt, toast and omelet with as much coffee as you want). Also has a bar

It’s an old monastery so it has this old building smell sometimes, and it’s quite cool/cold everywhere (I liked that though) The only thing I did not like was that the bed was too hard for me and almost too short (I am 1.76 cm)

Beautifully restored, small hotel. Husband says it's the most romantic place he's ever stayed at. Daily, made to order full breakfast was a wonderful treat. We stayed in El Balcon room which was up 1 flight of stairs. Staff helped carry our bags. Bed was super comfortable. Hot water in the shower worked fine once we figured out that you had to point the top of the handle to the right. Doing this is counterintutive since hot water usually involves pointing left. Great view of the Popo volcano from the hotel's top deck when the weather is clear. Don't miss the cathedral views from the cafeteria top floor of the nearby Amparo art museum either. Puebla is a wonderful city.

Instructions on how to operate the TV would have been appreciated.

The service and attention to detail are excellent. The staff makes you feel so welcome, as they are all so warm and kind. They do everything to make your stay excellent. The inn itself is a lovely piece of history, which the staff can explain to you. The owner collects antiquities and they are generously showcased in the Posada. Everything is colorful, interesting and clean. The breakfast is amazing. It is so plentiful that I had to ask for less! Finally, I slept so soundly compared to colleagues who were closer to city center. There is little if any noise at Hotel Boutique Posada. It is just lovely!

This hotel is genuinely unique. It is quirky, historic and a delight to walk around or to sit on one of the various plant covered patios. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. Christine and Marian are both fantastic hosts who go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and convenient. Christine organised ubers for us on three different occasions and even booked our bus tickets (online) to CDMX. The breakfasts, ordered via WhatsApp, each night before, are exquisitely prepared by either Marian or Christine and are more than enough to keep you going all day. Perfect location near the Zocalo. We cannot rate this hotel highly enough.

The traffic is noisy at the front, , but our room was well away from the road and, therefore, quiet.
