Vibe, rooms, breakfasts, all the great people who visit the place!

Russians who are still on the island.

The location means there is about 25 mins of extra walking compared to other more central options, but all tours offer pick-up and drop-off from the hotel so this is a non issue unless you explore on your own. The restaurant food is good, the rooms and bathrooms are clean. The staff is also very friendly.

Note that each cabin has a shared kitchen - some customers are not mindful of others and take up the entire shared kitchen or leave it dirty. We tried to avoid this issue by using the main common area to eat our food but we were not allowed unless we ordered food from there, so we had to eat in our room. This rule consider relaxing this rule as long as people clean up after themselves.

- Pretty ok breakfast (considering the Svalbard location). Yet coffee not too good though. - free tea/hot water available during the day - Very nice and helpful staff (big plus!) - Pleasant common area/reception/breakfast area in the main building - Option for affordable dinner - Airport to door bus ride (110 NOK one way)

- The Coal Miners cabins are quite a walk up the hill from the Longyearbyen town which is ok a few times but for a longer stay maybe not so great. Doing it a few times per day is not fun so much - Sometimes lines to take a shower. - Impossible to wash your face or brush your teeth in the common bathrooms without spilling water all over the floor due to quite narrow sinks and large bathroom cabinets sticking out over the sink - a trivial nuisance which after a few days starts getting on your nerves (makes you think who designed it). - My bed was very narrow/too narrow (not comfortable to sleep on) - Thin walls between rooms so you can hear conversations of your neighbors (and other activities)

First thing first - Svalbard is a magical place. I personally liked the Coal Miners’ Cabins location for several reasons: -since it’s further up the road, there’s a beautiful view of the center. -It gave me more opportunity to be active and walk (I visited during midnight sun season, perfect for running too). -Lastly, it feels a bit secluded in an already secluded part of the world, adding to its magic :-) however, keep in mind about 20-25 mins fast walking to the center which might not be ideal for everyone. Service: the team is lovely! Joanna and Sherry, plus other nice team members I didn’t get their name were always friendly and helpful. Good vibes in the common area with the opportunity to meet other travelers and share stories / activities. Breakfast is good. Rooms are basic but comfortable and clean. Toilets were just in front of the doors. As a budget option in expensive Longyearbyen, I totally recommend it! Already considering my next visit :-)

Everything was great! Sad to leave this magical place

small but lovely room in a former miner's barrack - the toilets/showers were spotless clean - there was a common room and a kitchen where you could cook your meals and where there was a big fridge to store your foodstuff, well organized - the breakfast buffet in the morning was a blast! - very friendly and helpful staff - location is ideal for those who want to be closer to nature and a bit outside of the city, yet in walking distance to downtown - the fact that it is very quiet and air is very pure - the arctic reindeers grassing around the accommodation

nothing to complain about, all was super nice there, would definitely come back

Breakfast was very well presented and a reasonable selection all you needed. accomodation was basic but everything you needed was thier and good kitchen was busy but well worth included in accomodation as meals in town were expensive, dinning at coal miners was good tasty food, all in all a very nice place to stay and meet fellow travellers at a very good price. if you want more luxury stay in town and pay more. But id stay here anytime and spend the money saved on trips etc. In my opinion stay here and enjoy.

For us nothing for others depends on what you want.

The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable. The hotel was always lovely and warm, with a lounge area in our cabin. Towels and a hairdryer were provided, which was great. About a 30-minute walk to the city centre with beautiful views. The staff couldn't help us enough and the cleaners were thorough. The showers had excellent pressure with red hot water. There is a good little functional kitchen downstairs with fridge, kettle, oven, stove and dish washer. The main building with reception and restaurant is warm and comfortable, with good food and drink options and a filling breakfast buffet.

This is actually the place I always wanted to stay when I'm in Svalbard. Everything was perfect, warm and cozy room with a cool view from the window. Walking distance from the center of Longyearbyen, which was quite refreshing and invigorating. Cool attitude from the people at the reception and good food for breakfast and dinner. Fair price, quality - I recommend! And bonus, if you are lucky enough to have the Northern Lights you are a few steps away in a relatively dark area where you can see them well!

Everything was perfect.

Very friendly and helpful staff! Very quiet surroundings with reindeers, geese and arctic foxes passing by. To look out my room window in the evening after a long day never got boring. I was hiking before my flight home in the evening. Despite Check Out in the morning I was allowed to use the bathroom before heading to the aiport which was very kind! Rooms and shared bathrooms are super clean.

The kitchen is a mess, mostly thanks to guests without manners. But some kitchen stuff is also broken.

Clean and overall cozy, definitely a good choice in that price range. Excellent breakfast and overall a great stay.

I feel like it doesn’t make sense to ask guests to pay for an early check-in if the rooms are already ready. In years, and years of travels this is the first time an hotel/hostel is telling me “all the rooms are ready, but you’re still required to pay for the early check in.” Felt a bit like a stretch, as far as I know, this is the only structure in Longyearbyen doing that. Overall, everything was nice and I’ll probably be back.
