Elktrace is absolutely stunning. The cabins are well maintained and a true value for your money. Evelyn is a wonderful host and highly attentive.

It should be noted widely on the website that four wheel drive and snow tires are VITAL during the winter months. The road leading up to the property is long and was not well maintained or plowed, with huge potholes throughout. If we hadn’t driven our Subaru Crosstrek with snow tires we wouldn’t have been able to get out. There was some controversy during our stay with the snow plow service, but either way—this information needs to be provided to others before booking.

The ranch lies in a huge meadow filled with giant trees. The mountains are off in the distance and light up with the sunshine on a clear day. The “lodge” was full of comfortable furniture and surrounded by floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides. My room was very quiet and comfortable. The hostess was very happy to help me with anything I needed. Entertainment provided with cable TV in my room and a large TV in the lodge. They also have a pool table. The day I arrived was a near blizzard. Went snowshoeing on their equipment. Breakfast was well prepared and hot early each morning.

Mother Nature was an adversary in getting out of the ranch on one day. Private roads depend on commercial snow plows to open roads to vehicles. I was in a 4 wheel drive truck and never got stuck but had to wait a few hours to leave my first day. Next day the snow stopped and road was easily driven all day. Just plan on being patient if you stay here. You take a chance with any remote location but the beautiful scenery compensates.

We stayed just one night at the end of a 45 day RV camping trip. We were in the main house, which was reminiscent of the big house on the Kevin Costner series Yellowstone! We had a King bed. Very comfortable! In the evening there was live music, which we listened to while sitting on rocking chairs on the porch. Very enjoyable! Breakfast the next morning was first class, which included scrambled eggs with bacon and gravy, fruit and some sort of fresh made pastry. Perfect! We will be back, next time for a longer stay!

My only problem with our stay at Elk Trace Ranch: It was too short!

Everything about property was amazing! The ranch is very large and there were lots of friendly animals on the property- horses, cows, doggies, and even a friendly barn cat named Tim! We stayed in the Annex and it was a gorgeous smaller house. The breakfast and the staff/ owners were so welcoming and nice!

We loved everything about it! If you travel here during the Spring you should just be aware the roads are all dirt and when the snow is melted it can be a bit muddy- wear appropriate shoes!

We had the best stay ever at Elk Trace Ranch. There is a very special vibe here and Evelyn, the amazing host knows how to make you feel right at home. During the delicious breakfasts served every morning, you just feel like you are part of the family. Everyone is friendly and laid back, it is such a joy to gather in a place like that. Not to mention the beauty of the ranch: one million dollar mountain views everywhere, cozy interiors, fireplaces, piano, billard .... and cherry on the cake it is the most dogfriendly place I know ( and we have been traveling full time with our 2 frenchies for 3 years now). Evelyn adores dogs and our doggies did not want to leave (we were extremely sad to leave too). We are just looking forward to come back in the summer time to enjoy a new Colorado. Thanks Evelyn and the team for everything!❤️

Nothing. Everything was perfect.

I travelled with 2 young dogs who were greeted with open arms by the hosts despite them being a bit wild and romping. The main house where most of the rooms are, is very spacious yet also cozy. I stayed in a cabin right near the house and that worked well for my pups and me. The roads in were well plowed even with recent snowstorms. I snowshoed around the property and did a few walks on the road. Amazing views. Eileen made a buffet style breakfast burrito spread that was delicious. We had a nice chat and met some of the other lodgers, which was nice. Not far from west Pagosa area and also from downtown area that have hot springs.

I think for several nights the place is just right. Was there just one night so no complaints! Pagosa Springs lodging is pricey so overall the price for the Elktrace was not out of line.

The hosts invited us to make ourselves at home. It was so comfortable to sit and enjoy the surrounding views. The guest rooms were very well appointed and the great room was well furnished. We chose this booking because it was dog friendly - but that's an understatement. Our dog was referred to as a "Guest Dog" and was welcome to hang out with us and the other guests. It was fun to visit with other guests while enjoying a full breakfast.

The location was spectacular! We really appreciated the hospitality from the Arnold Family, and we would definitely stay there again. Also, we appreciated the wonderful amount of breakfast selections each morning.

Other than a burned-out light bulb above the shower and a burnt out light bulb above the toilet in the elk room, we can't think of anything else that would be an opportunity for improvement.

Elktrace is located outside Pagosa Springs in a beautiful area. We liked the big space with our own kitchen. It was like being at home with all the amenities. The room was nicely decorated and had christmas lights and a christmas tree. The fire place made it very nice. The host was fantastic and the breakfast was very good.

The owner has a dog that was scary, as we arrived after dark. It should be better guarded when visitors arrive. Once we were there,the dog behaved well.

EVERYTHING!!! Evenlyn was the perfect host. Always there when you needed something but never underfoot. She made an outstanding breakfast you could just cruise through the kitchen at any time and help yourself. We sat on the huge wrap around that every morning watching hummingbirds having coffee and breakfast with view of the mountains. The house is gorgeous there's no way you can enjoy all of it and we stay four nights. One evening we took two chairs down to the fence line and watched the sunset in the mountains drinking your own beer. Every morning we saw hot air balloons in the horizon. The bathroom was outstanding. The most comfortable bed and best sleep of our trip. I can't believe how affordable it was. This resort Lodge feels like something you would pay $400 a night or more. I wish it was closer. I would go every year.
