It's a 1.5-hour drive to the central mountains of Big Bend National Park, so it's a little far away from the central location. This surprised us a bit because we didn't check it properly while booking. But the place is fantastic. It's a magical place in the desert, surrounded by mountains, creating a mystical atmosphere. The pool is excellent, and we enjoyed resting there after our hikes in Big Bend. It is highly recommended!

Beautiful, remote, quiet, dark skies, friendly staff, nice pool in the desert, comfortable cabin. No TV, but that's good! Really off the beaten path. The Bad Rabbit Cafe serves good food at a reasonable price. The property emphasizes maintaining a dark skies atmosphere, and the stars are magnificent!
There is a frig in the room, but no microwave, coffee maker, or hair dryer. The Ranch is located about 20 miles off the main highway, and the last three miles are dirt. WiFi is intermittent in the cabins but steady at the Bad Rabbit. Because of its remoteness, not recommended for just an overnight stay while on the go, unless 40 miles of mediocre road doesn't bother you.

This was one of the few locations with a cafe for convenience. There are not a lot of eating places around Big Bend. We wanted a cabin with a bathroom and were able to get one here. The room was clean and staff was nice and helpful. No TV but we were able to get wifi in the room and use our tablet to watch movies, etc. Very peaceful place.
The lodge said they sent an email through Booking.com about how to access the lodge which we didn't get from Booking. (I blame this on Booking). Be sure to look for messages from the lodge on Booking as they will give you instructions on how to get there. GO FROM ALPINE! Unfortunately I didn't check the messages and we followed GPS which took us on a 20 mile rutted dirt road (Marathon Road) across the park. Avoid this road unless you have 4 wheel drive.

The staff is very friendly and helps any way they can. The location is great! Too bad we had a full moon because when it's dark at night you could see some many stars (so if you can, avoid the full moon). Sitting outside on the porch of the cabin is possible until late at night and you'll see a lot of wildlife right in front of you. Follow the driving instructions of the ranch and don't trust your GPS! You can have breakfast, lunch or dinner in the nearby Bad Rabbit Cafe.
That I only stayed 2 days!

No lights! And that was amazing! They try to preserve the dark, avoiding light pollution. This way you can touch the stars with a finger!!! Amazing! Well done!!
I didn't understand the last 3 miles of the road were unpaved and with my sedan, four people in it, it was a little uncomfortable. No hair dryer in the room (it is available, but u have to go pick it up at the reception) No tv (thats fair, seen the place you are) Low internet connection (reasonable as well))

Location, Location, Location! Even with the 3 miles of ROCK and dirt road, it was the most soothing place to be for relaxing and marveling in God's creation. Mountains surrounded by the peaceful night sky - 4 nights really were not long enough.
Praying for more water availability for the area. I know the ranch has been making do with available water supply and has done very well but sure miss a long shower after all day in Big Bend National Park!

The property was quaint, with a nice western charm. The Bad Rabbit restaurant located on the property was so good! We loved being right in the mountains. I wish we would have known about the special access road to a private scenic view behind the property that requires a 4x4 awd vehicle. Such a nice benefit that normal lodges don’t offer!
While beautifully remote, it takes 45-55 mins to get to any type of food or gas in “town” if the Bad Rabbit restaurant is closed on Monday or Tuesday. If you’re visiting Big Bend National Park, expect to add another 30 mins to the drive. While nicely maintained, the 3 mile dirt road does add additional time to get to the lodge.

The dark skies, the view, the vibe, the other guests, the facilities, the staff and the bird feeder.
Would be nice to have detergent vending machine in laundry. I ended up begging some from a kind stranger. (Office was closed) And would have loved an electric tea kettle in my room. Such small things. A bit far from big bend but can’t change that!

On-site restaurant, breakfast was good, diverse menu, and reasonable price. Only TV was in the Bunkhouse tuned to sports channels. Bunkhouse offered snack type food and beer/sodas. I really liked staying out in the mountains.
I would have liked to plug in my electric hybrid vehicle at night but could not find an electric outlet near parking and could not get the RV outlet to work. Only gas station in town ran out of gas briefly on my last day. The ranch is 17 miles from hwy and it is another 17 miles into town.

16 miles up (from Terlingua) and 13 miles over into the desert, you will find yourself in a quiet valley between two mountains. Expect to see all sorts of wildlife (hang around the pool at dusk for a parade of swallows and bats) and don't be surprised when the javelina herd marches past your cabin in the early evening. The reasonably-priced meals at the on-premises Bad Rabbit cafe are simple but enjoyable, made more enjoyable by an engaged and thoughtful staff. And do you want to see stars? You'll see stars.
The bathrooms in the cabins are getting long in the tooth and could use a touch-up and some attention to the fixtures. The beds are serviceable steel-frame affairs that will scoot across the floor if you happen to lean on them.
